Duke ''Players'' suspended

USA! USA!
Duke ''Players'' Suspended
This is like being passed by  the guy who rode your bumper for 10 miles, blinking lights for you to pull over, and then coming across him 10 miles down the road getting a ticket.  It's like seeing the school bully get his ass kicked.  It's like finding out the guy who beat you in the sales contest had falsified his orders.  It's like realizing that John Kerry is not the President of the United States.  It's like being 16 again.

''The Atlantic Coast Conference suspended on Monday the officiating crew that worked Florida State's overtime loss at No. 2 Duke on Saturday.

''Edward Corbett, Raymond Natili and Mike Eades will each be suspended for their next game for assessing the technical foul that resulted in Alexander Johnson's disqualification with 9:23 remaining in regulation of the Seminoles' 97-96 loss on Saturday''. -ACC suspends officials for bad call

''Some ACC coaches have long suggested the Blue Devils often get the benefit of doubt from officials and always seem to get the critical calls. Duke, which tonight plays North Carolina at Smith Center in Chapel Hill, is 21-1 overall and 9-0 in the ACC, two games ahead of N.C. State in the conference standings.

"I wondered if Duke would start getting all the calls once they started contending for a number one seed in the NCAA tournament," said one ACC coach, who requested anonymity for fear of discipline from the league.

Another ACC coach said the league's actions against the officials might change the way Duke's games are officiated. "Everybody left who plays Duke is going to get a fair chance now because it's never been under more scrutiny," the ACC coach said

That's how sorry-ass the officiating has been where Duke is involved.  Oh, they're a good team, and have been for years, but nowhere near as good as their record.

"Hitler would be like a suckling baby next to George W. Bush." No, it wasn't a Massachusetts Democrat who said that on Saturday. But it was one of the Bay State Congressional delegation's best friends -- Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez.

We criticized Congressmen William Delahunt and Ed Markey late last year for accepting an enormous petro lagniappe from Mr. Chavez in the form of 12 million gallons of cut-price home heating oil. "To the people of Venezuela, our debt," said Mr. Delahunt, playing along with this blatant attempt to buy opposition to U.S. foreign policy.

Leave aside the fact that the "people of Venezuela" probably have better uses for their prime national resource than subsidizing America's second richest state. Few leaders also work harder than Mr. Chavez to undermine bipartisan U.S. interests around the world. For example: siding with Fidel Castro to support a resurgence of radical left wing politics throughout Latin America; or trying to thwart our efforts to stop Iran from acquiring a nuclear bomb. Only Cuba and Syria joined Venezuela in voting against the IAEA's referral this past weekend of the Iranian nuclear dossier to the U.N. Security Council.

Mr. Chavez has been picking other fights too, recently expelling a U.S. military attache on charges of spying and telling Venezuelans to gear up for a U.S. invasion. We don't see a compelling reason for the latter anytime soon. But it seems inarguable that Mr. Chavez ranks among the worst national leaders in the world today. If Massachusetts Democrats are having second thoughts about their friend in Caracas, we haven't heard them.

War is hell

''War is Jahannam ''
Gunboy duToit [Position Paper (2)] takes a stand on the Danish cartoons that nobody could quibble with - five years ago.  Tolerance and civility ought to rule all our lives (Howard Dean .. Hello...), but not now, not where Islam is concerned.  I consider that we - the Western World -  are in a state of war against Islamism, a World War.  You might wish we were not, but you would be whistling past the graveyard.

Just as we depicted ''Japs'' and Nazis as baby eating monsters during WWII, so too may Islamo fascists be ridiculed by propaganda - a necessary tool of war.  (If it is forbidden to create a likeness of Prophet Muhammad, how can anyone get mad at a cartoon?  I mean, where's the historical reference to his likeness?  The rioters might as well be outraged over a Ulysses S. Grant cartoon, right? Just an aside.)
'But Rodge, what about the Muslims here, in America, who are truly patriotic, but still have an abiding love for their faith?''
I am sympathetic to them.  The religious left in this country have declared war against Christianity, and it pisses me off to no end when they mock Jesus Christ, but notice that nobody has been beheaded because of it (pity, too, or we would be done with Jon Stewart).  Anyway, the solution is easy.  There are Sunni and Shi'ite sects of Islam, so add another.  Call it the Allah sect, or the Detroit sect, I don' t care.  Whatever they call themselves,  let them stand up and denounce the goals and aims of al-Qaeda, and the Saudi Wahhabism that spawned it,  in no uncertain terms. Let them believe that the institutional hatred taught by many imam wackos is heretical. Let them call for a  fatwa against them  Let them treat al-Qaeda sympathizers in their own communities the same way Nazi symps were treated in 1942.  Rooted out and thrown down wells. To them, we can play nice.

A nice lede to the story below about the NYT.

New York Times, aka ''al Jazeera West''

Today's Bwahaaaaaaa
TIMES Rips ''Fact Free Bloggers''
New York Times Metro reporter  Clyde Haberman writes of bloggers:
"Journalists. There's a word that has been stretched almost beyond elasticity."
It has indeed Clyde.  For instance,  real journalists would have fleshed out the rather incendiary charge, appearing on the front page of today's al Jazeera West (the NSA is eavesdropping without warrants on the telephone calls and e-mail messages between people inside the United States and people overseas.) with the ending. -- if there have  been credible reports that one of the parties is al-Qaeda.

The New York Times ought to be officially labeled an enemy combatant.
More ''progressive'' lovliness

Wash your hands

A man walks into a restaurant and sees on the menu:
Ham Sandwich................... $2.00
Turkey Sandwich................ $2.00
Hand Jobs........................ $10.00

He says to the waitress, "Are you the waitress that gives the hand jobs?"
"Why, yes I am sir!" she replied.
"Then go wash your hands, I want a ham sandwich."

It's yellow for Carter

The Jimmy Carter tank at the National Pissatorium - Reuters
In case you forgot, Jimmy Carter will even micro-manage his own funeral.  Somewhere in my stack of stuff I have the instructions our worst ex-President detailed for his own send-off.  I really do forget whether he actually requested that nobody  use the phrase "worst President," or if I made that up at the time.  It doesn't matter.  It'll be amusing to watch the lefty media try to eulogize him without using the words.  Now I see that his kid will run for the United States Senate.  Will it ever end?   Please, isn't there an asteroid, or something, that can give us peace?

As an aside, the director of the National Pissatorium (Founded 2003)  informs me that the Carter vat is nearly over subscribed.  I hate to build another one - I mean how much longer can it be utilized?  What the Hell, I'll authorize the expense.  I don't want anyone to be deprived the honor of pissing on his grave when that sad time arrives.
Excuse me, but we're at freaking war with the Islamo nation! Duh.
Three things persuaded me to post the milk carton Muhammad below.
  1. The murder of a Catholic priest by a Muslimo (not an aberration) lunatic ...
  2. This argument I read on SondraK's last week (excerpt below)
  3. We're at war with Islam -  believe it.  They win, or we win.  Not both.

Coffee

Today's Stuff
Mother Superior TIVO'd  a show called ''The Shopping Bags'' on Fine Living Channel because they were doing coffee makers, and she wants me to get a new one.  I'm the coffee drinker (she's tea) and have been using a Black & Decker Space Saver for several years, and it still works.  I have to replace it because it ''looks dirty.''  Yup, coffee stains on white plastic do that.  What ever maker we get has to fit on the counter, under cabinets, and have a swing out basket.   I also like the removable water reservoir for easy filling and cleaning.  Black & Decker  still makes the Space Saver, but only in white, alas, and she wants black.

Anyway, here are the coffee makers the panel tested ... Take a guess?
The most important factors in making good coffee are (this according to their experts) -

  1. Hot heat ... look for a maker with an element at least 1000w (The Black & Decker was the only one that did)
  2. The proper grind for the maker ... critical
  3. Clean basket, and carafe

The hands down winner was the $30 Black & Decker, which astounded everyone. It received every vote.   The two worst were the Melita, and the Starbucks coffee press.  So, there you go.

Out with the bad, in with the good
Okay, I  just uninstalled IE7 Beta after all kinds of funny stuff was going on in other programs.  After uninstalling, I did a system restore back to the point just before I installed it.  BTW, I got rid of Yahoo's tool bar too.  It sucked.  I put a link to Google in the menubar and just go to it when I need it. Now, for today's good stuff that works.

Practice Safe Sex

See? This is what I was talking about.

I test IE7 Beta

So much for that
I spent some time yesterday testing IE7 Beta.  While I'm quite happy with Firefox, there are some issues that bug me.  For one, I use a lot of gimmicky thinks on my blog -- like rollover sound -- that do not work in Firefox.  Even when posting comments, or using Movable Type, the menu showing formatting options disappears in Firefox.  On the other hand, bot infiltration has been cut to near zero.  Last night  I ran my weekly Spybot, and it found nada.  Anyway, back to IE7
IE-7 is obviously Microsoft's reaction to Mozilla.  Every touted feature is available now in Firefox, from tabs to extensions. Getting started was fairly easy despite some initial glitches -- like it locked up on first try.  It was also very, very slow loading at first, but it did  correct itself. Another thing that annoys me is the installation changed my file handling options. Clicking on a thumbnail did open the graphic in Paint Shop Pro; now it displays in Microsoft's Fax and Image viewer. I'm sure more will pop up later.
This is a Beta version, so glitches are to be expected.  This is one that Microsoft needs to address posthaste.  The popup window stopper is impossible to control.  This is my menu, for crisake, and even disabling all popup control failed to stop it.  Unlike IE6, where you simply click a tab that says "allow popups on this site,' or some such, you have to go to the tool bar, select popup, and configure it there.  And it still won't work.

But, here is where they lost me entirely.
The great thing about Firefox is the open architecture that allows hobbyists, geeks and other peeps to create ''extensions.''  These are little ad-ins that make life easier.  One that I use is a browser accelerator that actually seems to work.  I was anxious to see what kind of action Microsoft had, and was surprised to find several options already available.  I clicked on IE Accelerator, and you see what I got.  A free trial, then you pay $14.00 for it.  Are they nuts?  Am I misreading this?  I'm outta here IE7.
Today's ''Oye''
Yay, a bus cam catches a a school bus driver  slap a special needs student.  Who can (or will) argue that catching bad cops on tape  beating  innocent people is not just a wonderful thing?  That's good, because with the proliferation of snoop cams, there will soon be several thousand such ''public outrages'' every day to fuel the 9,783 channels requiring  24/7 content.  But.  This is a nation willing to let O.J. Simpson walk because, ultimately, we believe it's better to let a thousand guilty go free than to jail a single innocent man.  That concept is flipping around here.  These cams are like the IRS,  which agency has the power to get you if they put their mind to it.  Extrapolate.
''But Rodge,' what's the solution? ''

I don't know.  I think it's too late.  The frogs in the pot are wearing party hats.

No No No No No No No
WTF is going on?  Drudge is reporting that Jennifer Farrelly, 19, is arrested for using racial epithets at a Taco Bell in Connecticut.   That is flat unconstitutional, and we'd better stop doing this stuff  before we wind up like the European Union, where saying the French stink is a jailable offense. Farrelly was ' charged with ridicule on account of race, creed or color ..."  Sounds like the final Seinfeld episode, where the lads were jailed for mocking a chunky crime victim rather than coming to his rescue (Hell, some jerk in the CT legislature prolly took a cue from that farce, and drafted his own version).  Maybe this is the case that will find its way to the SCOTUS where, no guarantees, some constitutional order will be restored.  Ms. Farrelly was also charged with disturbing the peace, as  is appropriate.  Makes me want to run out and call my mailman a "lazy white MF'er."   Sheesh.

See? This is the kind of stuff I was talking about.

Hmmmmmmmm

Are we almost there daddy?
One of the many delicious moments in HBO's very black comedy ''The Second Civil War,'' has the Mayor of Los Angeles holding a press conference ... shown being translated into English for the Gov. of Idaho who does not speak Spanish (at the end of the speech, Black gang members open fire because they refuse to ''recognize Mexican rule''). `

I went scurrying to the Library of Important Things for the clip after reading this  WSJ account - "Beware Politicians Speaking In Tongues"
''Antonio Villaraigosa, the Democratic alcalde (or mayor) of Los Angeles, delivered to his city a "Respuesta al Estado de la Nación" -- a response in Spanish to President Bush's State of the Union address."
That's all I have to say.
