Our gummint qualifies for RICO

Get Ready
Be warned: Even people with good insurance will risk fines if mandatory insurance becomes the national law.

I have yet to find a person who's aware of the coming mandate to buy into Obama Care --  or face a $1500 fine, and possible  persecution for tax evasion.  This happened in Massachusetts, but it's exactly what every American will face under the Obama-Kennedy plan.  For starters.
“  What happens ...
Cape Cod, Mass.
My husband retired from IBM about a decade ago, and as we aren't old enough for Medicare we still buy our health insurance through the company. But IBM, with its typical courtesy, informed us recently that we will be fined by the state.

Why? Because Massachusetts requires every resident to have health insurance, and this year, without informing us directly, the state had changed the rules in a way that made our bare-bones policy no longer acceptable. Unless we ponied up for a pricier policy we neither need nor want—or enrolled in a government-sponsored insurance plan—we would have to pay $1,000 each year to the state.

My husband's response was muted; I was shaking mad. We hadn't imposed our health-care costs on anyone else, yet we were being fined ("taxed" was the word the letter used).

We've spent much of our lives putting away what money we could for retirement. We always intended to be self-sufficient. We've paid off the mortgage on our home, don't carry credit-card debt, and have savings in case of an emergency. We also have a regular monthly income of about $3,000, which includes an IBM pension. My husband, 61, earns a little money on the side, sometimes working as an electronics consultant on renewable energy projects. I'm 58 and make some money writing science books. We are not wealthy, but we aren't a risk of becoming a burden on society either. How did we become outlaws?

The turning point was three years ago, when then-Republican Gov. Mitt Romney pushed through the state legislature a health-care plan that he promised would provide ... [continue]

How does a blind person know when to stop wiping after a BM?

Amazingly, among all the answers nobody suggested the taste test.

Program Obama

“As president, I will make the fight against
al-Qaida and the Taliban the top priority.”
(Zero - July 15, 2008)
Who is this monster?

Peace Prize Boy, who will cede dominion over Afghanistan to the Taliban,  is now the leading candidate for a Nobel Genocide Award.  I dreamed last night (and was of course very disturbed by it) that returning soldiers from the Middle East executed a very bloody coup against this government.  If we're to live under a dictatorship, better one that believes so forcefully in the Constitution that they're willing to give their lives to defend it. That was the dream.  It replaced my formerly recurring dream about being confused over which WMD to smuggle in to the next SOTU address  Flame thrower seems to work best so far.   Where the heck are these nightmares coming from?   Anyway, to temper this tantrum of mine, here's Mark Steyn (excerpted)
“

Like Judi Romaine, he works hard to “create our worlds in our conversations”. Why, only the other day, very conversationally, the administration floated the trial balloon that it could live with the Taliban returning to government in Afghanistan. A lot of Afghans won’t be living with it, but that’s their lookout.

This is — how to put this delicately? — something of a recalibration of Obama’s previous position. From about a year after the fall of Baghdad, Democrats adopted the line that Bush’s war in Iraq was an unnecessary distraction from the real war, the good war, the one in Afghanistan that everyone — Dems, Europeans, all the nice people — were right behind, one hundred per cent.

<snip>

The Teleprompter'd Smile

“ But that was then and this is now. As the historian Robert Dallek told Obama recently, “War kills off great reform movements.” As the Washington Post’s E.J. Dionne reminded the president, his supporters voted for him not to win a war but to win a victory on health care and other domestic issues. Obama’s priorities lie not in the Hindu Kush but in America: Why squander your presidency on trying to turn an economically moribund feudal backwater into a functioning nation state when you can turn a functioning nation state into an economically moribund feudal backwater?

Gosh, given their many assertions that Afghanistan is “a war we have to win” (Obama to the VFW, August 2008), you might almost think, pace Judi Romaine, that it’s the president and water-bearers like Gunga Dionne who are the “cynics.”

In a recent speech to the Manhattan Institute, Charles Krauthammer pointed out that, in diminishing American power abroad to advance statism at home, Obama and the American people will be choosing decline.

There are legitimate questions about our war aims in Afghanistan, and about the strategy necessary to achieve them. But eight years after being toppled, the Taliban will see their return to power as a great victory over the Great Satan, and so will the angry young men from Toronto to Yorkshire to Chechnya to Indonesia who graduated from Afghanistan’s Camp Jihad during the 1990s.

And so will the rest of the world: They will understand that the modern era’s ordnungsmacht (the “order maker”) has chosen decline. [No Laughing Matter]

This, apropos of nothing, but it's hard getting back ino a groove.  But wait!  This is all stream of consciousness, so I 'll just stream.   BTW, MAC owners will never experience the satisfaction of spending 100 man hours getting their computer to work like it's  supposed to.  Ooh-Rah!

JFC!

So this guy walks into a bar ...
with a wetback on his head

I'm behind the curve after all this time off.  And speaking of curve balls, Nobel!?!

My first thought, after verifying what I heard wasn't  parody, was  "good1"  Maybe the voters -- those never giving a thought about electing Obama the Cipher -- will have pause over what they've done.   Maybe  voters who flipped me off when I was on Larry King and Olbermann,   saying the sonuvabitch was "installed" by a one-worlders cabal, not elected, will now understand how things work today.  Maybe they'll know it's time to do what needs doing.  I hope.

When I think Nobel Peace Prize,  now, I'll think Jimmy Carter, Al Gore, Yassir Arafat,  Michael Moore (I hear it was very close) and now the Marxist  Kenyan wetback poseur.   Here's some comments I gleaned after a quick Google.

“
  • Barack Obama’s Teleprompter: Big Guy says Bill Clinton called and was gracious in defeat; offered to fly Kanye West over 4 the Nobel awards ceremony.
  • Erick Erickson: Obama is becoming Jimmy Carter faster than Jimmy Carter became Jimmy Carter.
  • Ana Marie Cox: Apparently Nobel prizes now being awarded to anyone who is not George Bush.
  • Headline over AP analysis by White House correspondent Jennifer Loven: He Won, But For What?
  • Kathryn Jean Lopez, National Review: I want to buy the world a coke.
  • Ezra Klein: Obama also awarded Nobel prize in chemistry. "He's just got great chemistry," says Nobel Committee.
  • Adam Bromberg, CRC: Nobel Prize Committee must be staffed by out of work comedy writers.
  • Kristina Hernandez, CRC: It was the Beer Summit that put Obama over the edge.
  • Rush Limbaugh, “I don’t believe this!  He’s not only the first post-racial president, he’s also the nation’s first post-accomplishment president.  He has risen above incompetence.  He is now judged on wishful thinking.”

From Twitter
  •  If Gore and Carter were the death of the Nobel, then this was abuse of the corpse
  • Whats next? Michelle Obama or Nancy Pelosi for Miss USA?
  • BREAKING: Obama sez Mullah Omar a man you can do business with, declares "peace in our time
  • Waiting for Obama to blame Bush for his unearned Nobel.

Why we win

 Brezerkers

 This is how it happens:

There was not a second of planning before pulling the trigger.  An accumulation of insults, arrogance and seemingly arbitrary actions pushed me to the edge, and I leaped.  Only after pulling the trigger did I consider the consequences that included solitary confinement, and no contact with friends and loved ones.  And there was no guarantee that my action would have any salutary effect, but fuck it!  I reformatted my disk and reinstalled Windows, determined to get my hearing back.  I did, and I did it for you.

Gold
I take no position on buying gold, except this.  If you're going to buy it,
TAKE PHYSICAL POSSESSION !

What do we do with Nazis? That's right!

But Rodge, why do you want to us to
hang Reid, Pelosi and all the Democrats?
Because it will save the Republic, and if you try  it and get caught,  I can say "Hey, I was in Omaha."  But if it works I'll still get schools named after me for being the father of the revolution.   Oh, then there's this:
“

I'm embedding this video even though I can't hear it now that my sound whatchamacallits were fried by a Microsoft update.  But I'll bet it's good enough to make most of you want another 2 million man march on Washington, and do some serious smiting this time. Here's some no sound decoder necessary background.

A senior aide to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told CNSNews.com that it is “likely” that Reid will use H.R. 1586—a bill passed by the House in March to impose a 90-percent tax on bonuses paid to employees of certain bailed-out financial institutions—as a “shell” for enacting the final version of the Senate’s health care bill, which Reid is responsible for crafting.

Under the procedure, the substance of House Resolution 1586 would be removed and replaced with the entire Senate health care package. The maneuver would initially require the support of 60 senators to vote for cloture on the motion to proceed to H.R. 1586 (i.e., end debate on the congressional procedure and move forward).

If Reid wins 60 votes, then debate begins on his health care package. Reid could then decide to block all amendments and attempt to get a vote on the entire package.
”
I'm just kidding btw.  I would be extremely disappointed not to be included in that grand necktie party.

“ EXCLUSIVE: Chinese spymaster complains about news leak
Bill Gertz

China's most senior military intelligence official, a veteran of spy operations in Europe and cyberspace, recently made a secret visit to the United States and complained to the Pentagon about the press leak on the Chinese submarine that secretly shadowed the USS Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier in 2006.

Maj. Gen. Yang Hui said senior Chinese leaders suspected the Pentagon deliberately disclosed the encounter as part of a U.S. effort to send a political message of displeasure to China's military. The Song-class submarine surfaced undetected near the carrier, and Gen. Yang said the Chinese believed the leak was timed to coincide with the visit of a senior U.S. admiral.

Gen. Yang told U.S. officials during meetings that Chinese leaders were so angered by the disclosure of the Chinese submarine maneuver that they considered canceling the visit at the time by Adm. Gary Roughead, then-Pacific Fleet commander who has since been promoted to chief of naval operations.

Communist variants Marxism-Leninism, Stalinism, Maoism, Fascism, and nascent Obamunism -- tactical differences like agrarianism v. industrialism aside, are all the same evil  thing. Throw in  socialists too.  They are after all communists who haven't yet had to use guns against the reactionaries*.   They all crush the human spirit and destroy critical thought.  You know you're mired at least knee deep is this morass when public discourse becomes choked with bizarre gobbledygook  like that reported by  Bill Gertz.  What difference between China's outrage, feigned or real, over sun shining on them, and Democrat outrage over town hall protestors exposing details of Obamacare legislation?  Will we, for the rest of our existence have to pretend that pro wrestling is real, or that we are free men?  Because we're being preconditioned for just that condition.

* actually not even that is true if you consider that every law passed is ultimately enforced by law enforcement guns.

How Superman Died

Playing us like cheap violins

The Coming Bait and Switch
In a classic bait-&-switch, the sucker is lured in with the promise of gold which will ultimately be substituted for with lead.  In the Democrat's Health Care version, they point a gun at us victims while purchasing sheep's offal with our credit card. Adding insult to that injury, they then plan to switch that tripe for some Nancy Pelosi yeast infected vaginal discharge. Afterward, they'll expect praise and a raise.

Here's the plan.
“ A statement from Sen. McConnell on the CBO's report on the Finance Committee bill:

“This partisan Finance Committee proposal will never see the Senate floor since the real bill will be written by Democrat leaders in a closed-to-the-public conference room somewhere in the Capitol. The real bill will be another 1,000-page, trillion-dollar experiment that slashes a half-trillion dollars from seniors’ Medicare, raises taxes on American families by $400 billion, increases health care premiums, and vastly expands the role of the federal government in the personal health care decisions of every American.”

The "real bill" is the actual legislative language that will be signed into law (if it passes); the Finance Committee will vote on a bill written in "conceptual language." As Mary Katharine writes below, the report states that "The Chairman’s mark, as amended, has not yet been converted into legislative language. The review of such language could lead to significant changes in the estimates of the proposal’s effects on the federal budget and insurance coverage."

“    This is the 1936 Ford Tudor Sedan built for and owned by Allegheny Ludlum Steel.  This is 1 of only 4 in existence and is the only one currently in running & in road worthy condition. The car     is in exceptional condition, with the interior and the body looking great.  All 4 cars had over 200,000 miles on them before they removed them from service.
These cars were built for Allegheny as promotional and marketing projects.  The top salesmen each year were given the honor of being able to drive them for one year.  The V-8 engine (max 85 hp) ran like a sewing machine and was surprisingly smooth and quiet. The car was insured (we were told) for the trip to Louisville via covered trailer for 1.5 million dollars.

We were also told that the dies were ruined , making these the only cars like this ever produced. [R.W. Forsythe]

93% ain't bad, except I bet myself a billion dollars I'd ace it.  So, on the one hand I'm now rich, but the other hand took it all so .. . wait!  JFC.  Either way I'm a freaking billionaire!!   Them's Adam Smith's fabled "invisible hands" at work.. Must be.  Now where the hell did I put all that money?!?

Avast Ye Bloody Popups
Avast! message popups driving you nuts?

I use Avast! anti-virus (free basic version), and it can't be beat.  Except.  Twice a day a popup window announces there are updates available. In auto update, or manual mode another popup says "Downloading Updates.  Then, another Popup announces  "Updates Installed"  Why am I saying all this?   If you use Avast! you know what I mean; if you don't, you left already.

Anyway, when it happened the second time today I flipped out. Either I stop them, or I'm unloading Avast! and finding something else.  After spending about 30 minutes reading Googled gripes with no solution, I found it.  It has to be new dammit, cause I spent an hour on this before.  Anyway, here it is.

Right click avast  ... left click
...  -->program settings -->Update (basic) -->  Details

The default update interval was 240 minutes.  I changed it to 4320 minutes (every third day).  Tick silent running mode, and untick everything else (I did allow for reboot message).  You're welcome.

Last word on Renewal

Epilogue

When boners came easily

Years ago I read a book about a family who pulled up stakes to sail to the North Pole, or thereabouts,  and live for a year on the family 35 foot boat. The kids would be schooled by mom, and nature. The father made a conscious decision not to take a marine radio  because, he figured, knowing they had that crutch would render them subconsciously careless.

My crutch on this adventure was  DriveImage XML V2.12, certainly one of the top ten free utilities of all time. Because I could restore  any damned thing I wanted,  I failed to make provision for saving things like bookmarks, history, add-ons etc.. Well, I can, but first I have to find the right things in the maze of Mozilla's maze of profiles, blah- blah-blah.  I's daunting. So, tonight I'll prolly restore the old, bloated  waiting-for-disaster  system I'm as least comfortable with.

What I accomplished by spending all yesterday reinstalling Windows.
  • Since I wiped the disk, I have a very clean system
  • I was able to install service pack 3, something I couldn't do before (for some unknown reason)
  • During the hours of waiting for updates to finish  I:
  1. Watched 5 Mad Men episodes (I'm hooked)
  2. Watched the Curb Enthusiasm  Seinfeld episode.  Clap-clap-clap
  3. Watched the first episode of Dexter (HFS!!)  My daughter suggested it.  I expected a comedy. HFS-not.  (She suggested I not  watch a single episode from season 2, which stunk, but season 3 is great).
  4. I washed the dishes (MoSop away, day  5)
  5. Changed my underpants
What I lost in the process:
  • My affable fun loving demeanor
  • 15 hours of my life
  • Years of tweaks, gizmos, and gewgaws that made life easier.
  • My sound (as in the sound stopped working after a Microsoft sound driver update caused a "near fatal error." Even though I rolled back the update and reinstalled the Sound Blaster software, still no sound.
  • My mind, my boner. .
On the plus side, the chap I bought the new software from agreed to refund my $50.  How cool is that?

I was hopeful that after jumping through all of Microsoft's hoops I'd  be able to load Media Player 11.  Nu uh.. Without it, I lose most of my multimedia software that is now dependent on it being there.    My late F-I-L griped until the day he died that he was a Social Security "notch baby"  Well,  I'm a Media Center Edition 2002 notch baby.

I've also put off doing so many things in real life that I don't know where to begin with those.  Time for some whiskey.
