Big Maps

Big Maps

Washington D.C., 1923 - Maybe our second best president is inaugurated, and the War Department is called the War Department.  I love maps, and once spent an entire day perusing old maps in the library. Discovered that the spot where I now catch crabs was once the primary breeding ground for flounder in the Chesapeake Bay. The Big Map Blog is for people like me.

O'Reilly, useful idiot, and some plain liars

This Just In ...  Useful Sometimes Idiot O'Reilly falsely claims Conn. was residence for Obama Sr.

In his viewer email segment Wednesday night, O'Reilly was asked: "What about Obama's Connecticut Social Security card? He never lived there."

O'Reilly responded: "Obama's father lived in Connecticut for several years, and sometimes the child gets the Social Security number based on the father's address."

  • The records indicate the number was issued between 1977 and 1979 (to applicant with Connecticut address), when Obama was between 16 and 18 years old and living in Hawaii.

  • The assertion that Obama is using a Social Security number issued to an applicant with a Connecticut address because his father lived in Connecticut can be traced back to a piece Carol Bengle Gilbert posted on the Yahoo blog "Associated Content."

  • In that piece, Gilbert claimed, without providing any documentation, that Barack Obama Sr. lived in Connecticut after divorcing Obama's mother.
Obama's Witch Doctor
It's hard to say whether Carol Bengle Gilbert is, like O'Reilly, just another misinformed blabber-mouthed guess-pert, or like Chiyome Fukino ( or Joshua Wisch of the Hawaii attorney general's office),  a bald faced liar providing on-demand services to the White House poseur.

Lisa Moon Virus

Lisa Moon - EAT ME!

LisaMoon Virus

Marc Miller sent me this link in an e-mail last week.  As it happened, I had just minutes before run up against something that looked like Lisa Moon.  It just now hapopened again. I know better than to click the RED X , or "OK," so I attempted to close the tab.  Nuh-uh.  I tried closing the browser.  Nuh-uh.  What I do in this situation is right click on the bottom of the screen and select "Start Task Manager." Highlite the browser and click "End Task."  Poof, it's closed in a flash (this is handy for programs that freeze up, too).

LisaMoon Virus
When you restart (I use Firefox) it may ask do you want to restore last session?

 NO! Start fresh.

My wife doesn't want to hear all this rigmarole, so I told her to turn of f the computer and re-boot. I'm sure others have solutions of their own, but this works for me. I would dearly love it if we devoted ¼ of the resources we spend trying to find (the prolly dead) Osama bin Laden, and went after these guys.  And killed them.

The abortion party? Guess.

Then there's this:ON THIS ABORTED FETUS, THE DEMOCRATS PLANT THEIR FLAG
Comedy Central's allegedly serious Catholic, Stephen Colbert, spent a week ridiculing Sen. Jon Kyl's response to Reid for saying Planned Parenthood had nothing to do with abortion, but mostly provided things like cholesterol screening.

Kyl said: "You don't have to go to Planned Parenthood to get your cholesterol or your blood pressure checked. If you want an abortion, you go to Planned Parenthood. That's well over 90 percent of what Planned Parenthood does."

Harry The Impaler
[A]ccording to Planned Parenthood itself, when it comes to services for pregnant women, abortion constituted 97.6 percent of the services Planned Parenthood provided in 2009. Only 2.4 percent of the organization's services for pregnant women involved prenatal care or adoption referrals.

In the ramble seat

I'm getting to it here boss ...

Do people who see this clip from It's A Wonderful Life today react like I did upon seeing it for the first time as an adult back in the 80's?  It's where George Baily is seeing what life would be like, had he gone ahead with his planned suicide.  His wife Mary has no idea who he is; the police are called - he punches the cop (Ward Bond),  who promptly draws his .38 Police Special and tries to shoot him as he flees.

Shoot him dead.  For running.

When I saw it on Turner Broadcasting, ca. 1984, I had the same reaction I do today when I hear someone say "Merry Christmas" on Christmas day television.   It's a culture shock. Here's how I believe  Frank Capra's 1946 audience reacted.

1946 audience reaction:
Today's audience reaction:
None, really.  He hit a cop and ran.  Drawing-down on a man who created a disturbance and hit a police officer was expected.
Police Brutality - Quick, call a lawyer. Can't we all get along?
The public attitude about crime and criminals underwent a quick change after the uber Liberal Warren court's Miranda decision in 1966.  We've been on the slippery slope to Liberal Nirvana ever since.  Think; how many times have you heard Liberals cite English jurist William Blackstone's  platitude,"Better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer" since then?   I'm not saying it's a bad ideal; something to strive for (within reason).  It's about who does the preaching, and when..  How many times have you heard the same Liberals say "It's better that 100 people die in gun accidents than we lose our Second Amendment rights?"  Hmmmm?  never

I'm getting to the point here.  Which is -- Liberals operate in a state of self entitled, disconnected from all reality, delusion. We're talking about, for example ....
To my Republican friends: take back your party. So that it doesn’t matter so much who wins the election, because we have shared values about the education of our children, the growth of our economy, how we defend our country, our security and civil liberties, how we respect our seniors. Because there are so many things at risk right now -- perhaps in another question I'll go into them, if you want. But the fact is that elections shouldn't matter as much as they do...But when it comes to a place where there doesn't seem to be shared values then that can be problematic for the country, as I think you can see right now.

In our defense ..
a shotgun approach

A working group within the BATFE has recommended that any shotgun (semi-automatic, pump-action or any other) that has any one of 10 specific features should be banned from importation, on the grounds that such shotguns are not “generally recognized as particularly suitable for a readily adaptable to sporting purposes.”

The features in question are a folding, telescoping, or collapsible stock; a magazine of over five rounds or a drum magazine; a flash suppressor or a muzzle brake that also suppresses flash ...

What was that movie called?  Oh, right, "The Never Ending Story."  At the crux of the Heller decision [that struck down D.C.'s gun control law] is  our right as an individual to keep and bear arms in the defense of life,  liberty and property.  And that not only includes defense of our liberty against our own government, but is central to it.   If we are then to protect ourselves, it stands to reason that we must have available weaponry equal to that which despots can bring to bear against us.  Oui?  That includes automatic grenade shotguns.  But, God helps them what help themselves, so ... step one.

Comments to the BATFE may be submitted by e-mail to shotgunstudy@atf.gov, or by fax to (202) 648-9601, and must be received by May 1, 2011.  Faxed comments may not exceed 5 pages.  All comments must include name and mailing address.

Maryland, My Christmas Tree

Maryland Moves to Pass Controversial Tax & Alcohol Laws ...
Brilliant Maryland Voters
Maryland has passed two hotly debated measures raising taxes on alcohol and extending in-state college tuition breaks to illegal immigrants, officials said.

The increase in taxes on alcohol is the first such hike in more than a generation, while the tuition bill makes Maryland the 11th state to approve tuition breaks for illegal immigrants ... .

As you know, I abhor the idea of a civil war.  One of just a few alternatives left to us is to expel certain states from our union [and then declare war on them.]  Maryland must be included in any such list.
