Chicagoans hungry to flip the bird to Rahm, nicely

The line at 12:10pm extended down the city block from the entrance, full of Chicagoans who, it would seem, don’t share Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s definition of “Chicago Values.”

Some of you asked just what the scene’s like on Chick-fil-A appreciation day in Chicago, home to #ChicagoValues, and the city at the heart of the controversy over Chick-fil-A after our mayor congratulated an alderman in shutting the company out of opening a second location within the city limits.

Chick-fil-A mini rival, New York-based eatery Schnipper's Quality Kitchen has announced plans to donate a portion of its proceeds throughout the month of August to benefit marriage equality. Once again, I think the left have misread what this is about.

Yes, there are cultural, religious, and  traditional value reasons up the ying-yang  for opposing gay marriage, but there's another reason for hopping to Chic-Filet's defense.  This chap makes the point in Legal Insurrection's comments:

I think that the liberals “in-your-face” tactics towards businesses, free speech and pursuit of the ridiculous will really haunt them in November.

I think that even the dumbed down public is fed up with this BS, political correctness and the total lack of common sense.

Hopefully, many in this liberal cabal of thieves, liars and oppressors will be evicted in November beginning with the head, “You didn’t build this,” supporter.

Toss ‘em all out!

Beau Brummel

   At The Cinema

While I knew the name,  I somehow advanced well into my doitage without knowing who Beau Brummell was.

"Beau Brummell is credited with introducing, and establishing as fashion, the modern men's suit, worn with a tie. He claimed he took five hours to dress, and recommended that boots be polished with champagne. His style of dress is often referred to as dandyism".  (Wikipedia)

The Fop and the Dandy
He tells the Prince Regent (future King George V) that he dresses like a silly fop, and ought instead be a dandy. Prince  George idolizes him. One of the NetFlix commenters writes:

Underwritten. We never get to know these characters as people -- never find out what made them tick. Production values are good, yet on the thrift store side for a BBC historical, and the actors fine; but the piece has the air of a project that lost confidence and perhaps financing along the way -- .

I agree with that.  Still, a love of period pieces is enough for me, not to mention the education.

GOP takes one up the butt- again

Texas sized GOP U.S. Senate Nomination captured by Cruz
- Shows Palin Power

The anointed Texas political establishment contender, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, was leading in the GOP runoff race to capture the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison. He had a who’s who list of solid republican mainstream backers. Most state and national election experts had already inked Dewhurst into the senatorial win column.

Yet, in the conservative voter trenches of Texas, the real who ’s who that truly counted was the voters and a Tea Party movement that would not say die or give up. In their corner was the former Alaskan Governor named Sarah “I’m Not Afraid to Fight” Palin. Palin endorsed Ted Cruz, and Ted Cruz won! Boy did he win. [Join the Party]

It's obvious that the GOP establishment can't, or won't learn, so the proper thing is to kill it.  Like This.

Snopes Junior

Sigh

Sigh

This is the most hilarious thing I've seen this election cycle. The American Pulse looks like Snopes on steroids.  Here's yesterday's National Poll as submitted by ma perkins.

IRS wants tax on your olympic medal

       WHAT GUMMINT DOES

\
The taxman cometh... for all the precious metals in your Olympic medals -- Leave it to the IRS to figure out a way to raid the wallets of the few triumphant Olympians the U.S. is fielding this year. And even if they don't -- and some say they won't -- leave it to the IRS to have a plan to ruin our party just in case they want to. We have to admit, our favorite part is that the bronze is only worth five bucks.

Res Ipsa Loquitor"According to ATR, accepted winnings will be applied on top of an athlete’s taxable income and could be taxed up to a rate of 35 percent. Based on their assumptions, gold medal winners could pay the IRS up to $8,750, silver medalists could pay up to $5,250, and bronze up to $3,500 on their winnings. Not only could the awards be taxed, but the value of the medals are also taxable, ATR says. The low-tax advocacy group pins the value of a gold medal at $675, a silver medal at $385 and a bronze at under $5. ATR’s tax assumptions render gold, silver and bronze medal winners further on the hook for up to $236, $135 and $2 respectively."

Take that, bronze.

OBAMUNISM, The Party,
White House pressuring defense industry not to warn of layoffs
Companies dazed by political headache

Res Ipsa Loquitor

From the "Let them eat cake" file - the Obamas are warning defense contractors not to publicize automatic spending cuts  that will go into effect if he's reelected.

The automatic defense cuts, which are looming because a deficit supercommittee failed last year to strike a deal, have become a major political headache for President Obama and Congress.

In an effort to head off at least some of the pain, the White House said Tuesday that military personnel will be spared from the cuts — but that means trims will have to be deeper for military weapons systems and infrastructure.

Those cuts could jeopardize tens of thousands of private-sector jobs, and the 60 days’ notice requirement means companies would be alerting their employees of potential layoffs just days before voters go to the polls in November. [WaTimes]

Liz - I know only you can save capitalism

Res Ipsa Loquitor

The Democratic Senate challenger, already under fire for her own remark that “there is nobody in this country who got rich on his own,” made her claim that she is a business champion in an interview with the National Journal published Sunday.

“Every now and again, I meet with someone who’s been very successful on Wall Street, who says, ‘I want to support your campaign because I believe you will save capitalism. I believe in capitalism, and I understand there have to be rules. And they have to be consistently enforced,’ ” Warren told the National Journal.  [Boston Herald]

This isn’t the first time Warren has made grandiose pronouncements. She claimed to have provided the “intellectual foundation” for the Occupy movement last year, but almost immediately backed off the remark, and has been slammed for her as-yet unsupported claims of Cherokee heritage and minority status in a professional listing.

Warren, despite being in a dead heat with DNC Chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida for Most Staggeringly Stupid Democratess, is apprently also in a dead heat with Scott Brown in her senate race.  How?    Polls show about one-quarter of Obama supporters in Massachusetts are supporting Brown – the highest cross-over total seen in any competitive Senate race this cycle. Still, we are talking about an electorate who gave us a lifetime of Barney Frank and Ted Kennedy.
