I've been performing at The Moth, a spoken word/storytelling non-profit with arms in NYC and LA. Essentially, folks perform a 5-minute story (without reading or notes) based on a theme. It's rated like figure-skating -- with teams of judges awarding scores like "9.5" or "8.0". They have the second-largest podcast on iTunes right now, too.

So anyway -- in 2003, I met a woman online. She was from Western Australia, I was living in Richmond, VA. I ended up selling all my stuff and flying over there to meet her in person. Here's the story.

Rhetorical Disconnect
" moderate elements of the Taliban insurgency.

“   President Barack Obama says he hopes U.S. troops can identify moderate elements of the Taliban and move them toward reconciliation. ”
Is there a bigger nincompoop in politics today?  I keep vacillating between Obama being the Anti-Christ, bent on delivering the world to the forces of evil, or simply being the dumbest c**ksucker ever to rise above the GS-3 pay level.  At this point it's a wash.

Silencing of the Sheep
  • Democrats like Obama promise transparency in gummint
  • They promise transparency,  but legislate behind closed doors, excluding minority dissent
  • They exclude minority dissent, but complain that the average American has been ignored by gummint
  • They say gummint has ignored the cry of the common man, then impose regulations that make the common man cry.
  • When the common man cries, they look for the source of their discontent
  • When they discover the source of their discontent is them, they seek to ban the airing of factual information that exposes their calumny
xLike banning the publication of scientific findings!

“  Rep. Conyers wants science to be secret… or you will pay
”
Add to the already long list of outrageous actions by unchecked democrat boobs, and fellow travelers running wild, this from John Conyers.
“ Recently, government-sponsored agencies like NIH have moved toward open access of scientific findings. That is, the results are published where anyone can see them, and in fact (for the NIH) after 12 months the papers must be publicly accessible. This is, in my opinion (and that of a lot of others, including a pile of Nobel laureates) a good thing. Astronomers, for example, almost always post their papers on Astro-ph, a place where journal-accepted papers can be accessed before they are published.

John Conyers (D-MI) apparently has a problem with this. He is pushing a bill through Congress that will literally ban the open access of these papers, forcing scientists to only publish in journals. This may not sound like a big deal, but journals are very expensive. They can cost a fortune: The Astrophysical Journal costs over $2000/year, and they charge scientists to publish in them! So this bill would force scientists to spend money to publish, and force you to spend money to read them.
”
Would you think it churlish of me to suggest that Conyers is acting in the best traditions of certain mid-twentieth century European dictators?  Even if he's doing it for cash money?
“ Ironically, this bill is called The Fair Copyright in Research Works Act, which is much like the Clean Air Clear Skies Act or the Patriot Act, in that it does exactly the opposite of what its name says. This bill is not fair, it puts a burden on scientists and keeps research from being publicly accessible as it should be. I myself rely on things like Astro-ph to do my reporting here; it could become illegal to post papers there for federally-sponsored scientists if this bill is passed.

You can read more about this at Financial Times, Earlham College, and at Lawrence Lessig’s blog.

I saw the future & ran away
“ It reads like a poem - only instead of the rhythm of syllables and rhyming sounds, it's the rhythm of logic and rhyming meanings. If I could replicate it, I might start a whole new genre of "contradictory six-liners." It would be extremely difficult to keep it real and funny at the same time, but I'll try anyway. - Red Square ”

Linda Sue O'Grady unearthed what I'm calling the killer Lib slap-down post of the year, from People's Cube: Contradictions of Socialism (I saw the future & ran away)  Here's an example of  of an old Soviet-era joke, using the six dialectical contradictions of socialism in the USSR device.
“
  • There is full employment - yet no one is working.
  • No one is working - yet the factory quotas are fulfilled.
  • The factory quotas are fulfilled - yet the stores have nothing to sell.
  • The stores have nothing to sell - yet people got all the stuff at home.
  • People got all the stuff at home - yet everyone is complaining.
  • Everyone is complaining - yet the voting is always unanimous.
”
Your challenge is to develop a dialectical contradiction applicable to today's sorry-assed reality
of living under the thumb of a Socialst Obamacy.   Example:
“ Liberals and taxes:

    * Liberals want to help the poor - yet they won't give money to charities.
    * They won't give money to charities - yet they'd like the government to become a gigantic charity.
    * They'd like the government to become a gigantic charity - yet the money has to be taken from people by force.
    * The money has to be taken from people by force - yet they call it welfare.
    * They call it welfare - yet higher taxes make everyone poorer.
    * Higher taxes make everyone poorer - yet liberals find ways not to pay taxes.
    * Liberals find ways not to pay taxes - yet they get to be chosen to run the government.

The federal quo warranto statute
Attention “illegitimizers”

“ Leo Donofrio Quo Warranto Legal Brief, Part 1 & 2
Posted on March 6th, 2009 by David-Crockett

This evening, Leo Donofrio, Plaintiff in Donofrio v. Wells, reports that he has released the first part of his legal briefing stating his opinion of challenging the President’s authority via a prerogative writ known as quo warranto.

At this time, Mr. Donofrio will be working solo on this issue.

For the “illegitimizers” (my term for those who don’t believe there’s a need to enforce the Constitution’s eligibility requirements) out there, Mr. Donofrio points out a very interesting aspect of law:

Many have argued that only Congress can remove a sitting President and that the separation of powers enumerated in the Constitution denies the courts any legal ability to remove a sitting President.  But with the federal quo warranto statute, Congress has delegated that authority to the District Court of the District of Columbia by providing for the removal of the President (and other public officers) by quo warranto where the President is found to be a usurper to the office  even if he assumed the office with a good faith belief he was eligible.

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Curbed
Larry David

Since I've had the free HBO package trial, my morning ritual includes watching the Curb Your Enthusiasm episode recorded the night before.  These can get so intensely annoying that sometimes I have to walk away for a few hours.  But this is good for me, because no matter what schmucks I run into that day,  they will pale in comparison to what I've just witnessed.

The show's creator, writer, and star is  Larry David, who wrote and developed Seinfeld  (George Costanza is his alter-ego), is a comic genius, and in a class with Neil Simon as a writer.  Ann Coulter thinks that Larry  has to be a closet conservative, given the backhanded skewering liberals get on the show. Maybe that's why he divorced  ex-wife Laurie David, a first class commie bitch.

Anyway, this morning's fare, "Beloved Aunt," is a prime example.  Here's a short clip. (NSFW)
“ When Cheryl's aunt dies, Larry is left in charge of the obituary. But when the newspaper makes an unfortunate typographical error, things take an expected turn for the worse.

Buckwheat's Failed Presidency

From the DC Examiner ...
“ Moderate and conservative Democrats in the Senate are starting to choke over the massive spending and tax increases in President Barack Obama’s budget plans and have begun plotting to increase their influence over the agenda of a president who is turning out to be much more liberal than they are.

A group of 14 Senate Democrats* and one independent huddled behind closed doors on Tuesday, discussing how centrists in that chamber can assert more leverage on the major policy debates that will dominate this Congress.

Afterward, some in attendance made plain that they are getting jitters over the cost and expansive reach of Obama’s $3.6 trillion budget proposal.
”
Conspicuous by his absence from this list, is lying coward Sen. Jim Webb, (Flip-Flop, VA)  Sorry for getting carried away.  I despise Webb for trading his long held values for a senate seat, and wish him nothing but ill fortune.
*Evan Byah (Indiana), Mary Landrieu (Louisiana), Mark Warner (Virginia), Bill Nelson (Florida), Amy Klobuchar (Minnesota), Mark Pryor (Arkansas), Jeanne Shaheen (New Hampshire), Robert P. Casey Jr. (Pennsylvania), and Blanche L. Lincoln (Arkansas), Claire McCaskill (Missouri), Mark Begich (Alaska), as well as Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.). Senator Jon Tester (Montana) is not officially in the group, but the article details his discomfort with this spending free-for-all.

Losing Limbaugh

Stephanie Miller
“Execute Rush Limbaugh”
“ Radio talker Stephanie Miller, outraged that Rush Limbaugh wants Barack Obama's policies to fail, has called for the nation's top talk host to be charged with treason and executed.

She made the call, not on her rather obscure radio program but on CNN's "Larry King Live" show Tuesday.

King seemed unfazed by the suggestion, neither following it up with a challenge or a question.

"To me that seems treasonous," Miller said. "If I could say something tonight that gets me that kind of attention, like maybe Rush Limbaugh should be executed for treason. How about that?" [WND]
”
If I may, Larry  ...

Stephanie, you ignorant slut! Bagged-out, dried-up, slunken meat like you should be fork shredded and recycled back through the sow's digestive system from whence you came.

Way to ratchet things up Stephanie. You have to exercise temperance when calling for the death of a public figure, though. Like this.

If it's proved that Barry Hussein Obama is ineligible to hold his office, he must be removed. If subsequent findings reveal he was part of a wider conspiracy to seize control of the United States government, and his trial for High Treason results in a jury verdict of "guilty," only then should Mr. Obama be executed.
Let's play conspiracy theory, something that Limbaugh routinely dismisses, and condemns by the way. If you're in the process of undermining the constitutional basis for the United States gummint, to replace it with an Obamacy, of immediate concern is armed rebellion by reactionaries. Counter-revolution needs a voice.  Who has the respect, and access to Americans willing to, once again, fight for their country?  The best candidate is who? El Rushbo, right? The Left would certainly have prioritized silencing him in their working blueprints. Fairness Doctrine, first. If that doesn't work, shudder.

Freedom Study

Socialist Pathfinders
Maryland My Christmas Tree
A comprehensive study of  freedom in the United States  offered some surprises.  Maryland being dead last in personal freedoms, and Alaska at the top were not among them.  Colorado and South Dakota among the top three freest is intuitively startling.  So I'm not so smart after all.  I haven't read it yet, but I'm betting there's lots of good blog fodder here. Wait a minute ....

Okay, I just wanted to see if today's New York Times acknowledged New York's status as overall Most Oppressive State in the Union.  It didn't.

Mega thanks, and and a coupon for two bourbon Manattans,  to rockville for the tip.
“ Abstract

This paper presents the first-ever comprehensive ranking of the American states on their public policies affecting individual freedoms in the economic, social, and personal spheres. We develop and justify our ratings and aggregation procedure on explicitly normative criteria, defining individual freedom as the ability to dispose of one’s own life, liberty, and justly acquired property however one sees fit, so long as one does not coercively infringe on other individuals’ ability to do the same.

We find that the freest states in the country are New Hampshire, Colorado, and South Dakota, which together achieve a virtual tie for first place. All three states feature low taxes and government spending and middling levels of regulation and paternalism. New York is the least free by a considerable margin, followed by New Jersey, Rhode Island, California and Maryland. On personal freedom alone, Alaska is the clear winner, while Maryland brings up the rear. As for freedom in the different regions of the country, the Mountain and West North Central regions are the freest overall while the Middle Atlantic lags far behind on both economic and personal freedom. Regression analysis demonstrates that states enjoying more economic and personal freedom tend to attract substantially higher rates of internal net migration.

Olbermann gets neutered

Olbermann, Joe Biden's Twin?
“ My Ivy League education taught me how to cut corners, skim books and take an idea and write 15 pages on it, and also how to work all day at the Cornell radio station and never actually go to class.  Keith Olbermann, Playboy magazine
”

Only psychpaths like Joe Biden and Keith Olbermann could shamelessly ignore a lifetime of pratfalls, exposed lies, and general idiocy,  and continue a public charade of competence.  They have to share DNA, there's no other answer.  Here, Olbermann gets trumped in spades by Ann Coulter [OLBERMANN'S PLASTIC IVY].
“ Except Keith didn't go to the Ivy League Cornell; he went to the Old MacDonald Cornell.

The real Cornell, the School of Arts and Sciences (average SAT: 1,325; acceptance rate: 1 in 6 applicants), is the only Ivy League school at Cornell and the only one that grants a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Keith went to an affiliated state college at Cornell, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (average SAT: about that of pulling guards at the University of South Carolina; acceptance rate: 1 of every 1.01 applicants).

Olbermann's incessant lying about having an "Ivy League education" when he went to the non-Ivy League ag school at Cornell would be like a graduate of the Yale locksmithing school boasting about being a "Yale man."

The sound you hear is Olbermann's empty sack flapping against his pasty white thighs.

Death of the Secret Ballot

This is no exaggeration

“ President Barack Obama told AFL-CIO union leaders Tuesday in a videotaped address that the controversial Employee Free Choice Act will pass, signaling his full backing for legislation that makes union organizing easier.

"We will pass the Employee Free Choice Act," President Obama told more than 100 top labor officials in a closed-door meeting at the labor federation's winter gathering in Miami, according to people at the meeting.

The bill would make it easier for unions to recruit workers because it would let them join unions simply by signing cards rather than through secret-ballot elections in which companies can campaign against the union.
