It's more than that. We once were builders, and now we can't get a permit.

PRUDEN: The time to fight is a time to flee
Here we go again. Republicans just can't help acting like Republicans.
Surrender first, fight later, but only if absolutely necessary. It's in their DNA -

Republican elites have no taste for tea, not even of the mildest Ladies' Fruitberry Herbal variety. The elites have been rattled by the Tea Party revolt, not sure what it means, nor whether and how it can be controlled (or, preferably, becalmed). Instead Mr. Boehner and his timid fellows think the revolt against Barack Obama  and his radical agenda is all their doing. They're unable to comprehend the fact that the Republican triumph in November, if there is one, will be because the Republicans are the only available alternative. Any lifeboat looks good if you're standing in a cold rain on the deck of a sinking ship, no matter who you might have to sit next to.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing

It appears this ethic (that I call "There is no right way to do the wrong thing") is taking root.  I'm not real sure about Sen. Mitch McConnell's core values, other than survival, but he quickly sensed the negative vibrations after Boehner  agreed to ride in Obama's tax the rich posse, and responded with "new correctness." - "Forget Boehner; We'll Filibuster."

Today's Delaware Republican primary is I think a bellwether event.  The GOP establishment has waged total war on the conservative, Teaparty backed candidate running against their designated RINO.  If Christine O'Donnell manages to beat Mike Castle, as I suspect she will, winning the general will be icing on the cake.

Even as Democrats  ponder "life without Pelosi," and who among their leadership, if any, will survive, the question  for the good guys is, will, or even should, the GOP survive at all?  Certainly any vestige of the old leadership must be vacuumed up with extreme prejudice.  As many Whig leaders did in 1860, when they followed their voter base to the Republican Party, it may  be time for another migration.  The old GOP guard will make a wonderful base for a reconstructed Democrat Party, and thirty years or so of honest government will ensue.

ICELAND'S former prime minister Geir Haarde and three ministers could face court for the country's economic collapse.

A parliamentary commission has found they should be tried for the negligence that led to the country's 2008 banking and financial meltdown

If Iceland isn't actually considered European, it's a quibble.  Given the love affair Liberals have with Euro law then, this is an idea we (Americans and liberals) should be able to come together on    If we put on trial our leaders most directly responsible for causing the world's financial collapse, who do you suppose would find themselves on the dock?  Names like Bill Clinton, Barney Frank and Chrissie Dodd, are for-sure. Since the then Sen. Obama received more than $125,000 in "campaign contributions" from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, second only to Dodd, the Senate Banking Committee chairman, who received more than $165,000, he gets a nod too.  Europe doesn't use the death penalty, but we do.

You’re going to hear interesting audio that’s going to come out this week, and it involves a certain member of Congress leaving a voicemail one should never leave asking for money of a person who could she help and vice versa," said Mr. Breitbart.“She is a known quantity and a respected person who has been granted  a lot of respect and I think knowing people here, it is going to be very surprising that she would be behaving this way.

A Nancy with coiffed hair

UPDATED
Hey, I know this game!
John Boehner (R-Ohio) acknowledged Sunday that he would support allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire for the wealthiest Americans in exchange for extending the cuts for those making less than $250,000 a year.
The game is called "Go Along; Get Along."  I guess Boehner won that round!  Sheesh.

Strategically, it is always a terrible idea for Republicans to accede to raising taxes; any tax, under any pretext.  Tactically, this shows that Boehner has no feel at all for the driving force that will likely make him Speaker.  Teapartiers, which include independents, and some democrats,  are fed up with everything about this administration, and this congress. Class warfare is, if not dead, dormant for this election cycle.  What did Boehner gain with this meaningless gesture? What did he lose?  We need a Tom DeLay running this show; instead we get some Nancy with coiffed hair.

I just saw this New York Times piece, where they too call this a "tax cut"

House G.O.P. Leader Signals He’s Open to Obama Tax Cut

Let's see.  Obama will raise taxes by virtue of undoing a prior tax cut,  but by exempting some of the victims, his media mouthpieces can then signal tax cut!  Recall this Simpson's dialogue, from the episode where Lisa is president.

Lisa: If I'm going to bail the country out, I'll have to raise taxes, but in my speech I'd like to avoid calling it a, "painful emergency tax."

Milhouse: What about, "colossal salary grab."

Lisa: See, that has the same problem. We need to soften
the blow.

Milhouse: Well, if you just want to out-and-out lie ... [Lisa
doesn't object] Okay, we could call it a, "temporary refund adjustment."

Lisa: I love it.

You have to hand it to the Bears;  this game could have turned into a rout. Maryland could easily have 70 points.

Living The Dream of Father

blah-blah-blah

I was skimming through the speech and I sat up and took notice when I saw these words:

Against that backdrop Obama spoke forcefully.

“The highest honor we can pay those we lost, indeed our greatest weapon in this ongoing war, is to do what our adversaries fear the most,” the president said.

An empty suit
Aha!, I thought. We got a long list of things we are not going to do…now we’re going to get a statement from our leader about what it is we will do. What’s going to make us great, here. Even better, how we’re going to pay honor to the deceased. So what’s this wonderful thing we’re going to do, Mister President?

“To stay true to who we are, as Americans; to renew our sense of common purpose; to say that we define the character of our country, and we will not let the acts of some small band of murderers who slaughter the innocent and cower in caves distort who we are.”

++blink++

 -  House of Eratosthenes "What We’re Not Gonna Do"
Yes, Obama is an empty suit; a man who I believe would be far more comfortable driving a Soviet T-34 tank down Main Street,  than making nice to the American people. We have to play this out, however.  The only truthful and heartfelt words I've ever heard from this guy are on those You Tube videos that captured his thoughts before someone decided to script him as president. You know, the ones where he talks about fixing the courts; changing America.  He meant that stuff.  He's living the dream.

There is no insufficiency of 9-11 remembrances in the blogosphere today, but I wanted to do something.  In the end I wound up with sort of a Radio Free San Francisco video. Obama's buried with a US missile up his ass

The government is no less determined to kill or capture the 9/11 architect, he said. But the nation must remember the fight is with al-Qaeda terrorists, not the much wider world of people of Muslim faith. [yesterday]
When Obama told Tom Brokaw and the nation in 2008, " We will kill bin Laden; we will crush Al Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority,"  it rang hollow for several reasons.
  1. After five years of not being seen, nor heard from (you believed those faked tapes?), Jihad Mutual had certainly already paid the widow Bunny bin Laden his life insurance, and declared him dead.
  2. Democrats don't capture anyone who needs capturing. They free them.
  3. Even then we knew Obama's highest priority was turning the country into a socialist paradise, not crushing al-Qaeda.
  4. He's a liar (He reneged.once the election was over)
Our fight is too with people faithful to Muslim doctrine, because that doctrine demands that they subjugate and impose Islam, or kill us.  Mahometans, then, who disavow those dictates are not really Muslims,  and ought change their name to, I dunno, Obamutarians or Lutherans.  Something.  End of argument.

Castle's problem, much discussed here and lots of places these days, is conservative activist Christine O'Donnell. Willing to nominate her for the Senate when Castle didn't have the nerve to take on Biden directly (losing is never a winner with some), now that the seat is open she is being given the bum's rush. The article drew a stunning response when it appeared, with Rush Limbaugh not only devoting all three hours of his show to the article but now contributing an introduction to the book. [MORE]

A nap-time parable
And So it Came To pass!

Obama & God
He emerged from the vapors with a message that had no meaning; but He hypnotized the people telling them, "I am sent to save you." My lack of experience, my questionable ethics, my monstrous ego, and my association with evil doers are of no consequence. I shall save you with hope and Change. Go, therefore, and proclaim throughout the land that he who proceeded me is evil, that he has defiled the nation, and that all he has built must be destroyed. And the people rejoiced, for even though they knew not what "The One" would do, he had promised that it was good; and they believed. And "The One" said " We live in the greatest country in the world. Help me change everything about it!" And the people said, "Hallelujah! Change is good!"
"How's this for apocalyptic literature. This was written by a pastor's wife in biblical prose as a commentary of current events. It is brilliant. "

Whether this was written by a preacher's wife as claimed is moot.  My friend "Dead Wood Frank" sent me this, and I was able to find the site that had the graphics.  School teachers can delight their students by reading this story on a rainy day without outside recess.

Boned Jello

This is a sidekick post to the one below [Kafkaesque Torture].  What makes all this so maddening is that we saw all this coming in it's relative infancy!  And didn't realize we should have been hanging people from the get-go. Stab me in the freaking liver, why don't you?  Oh, sorry.

The New York Times yesterday used Justice Clarence Thomas to personify today's politically polarized courts.

Justice Clarence Thomas  apparently has one additional requirement. Without exception, the 84 clerks he has chosen over his two decades on the court all first trained with an appeals court judge appointed by a Republican president.

That unbroken ideological commitment is just the most extreme example of a recent and seldom examined form of political polarization on the Supreme Court.

First off, as the article admits, "none of the justices routinely write first drafts of their opinions. Instead, they typically supervise and revise drafts produced by their clerks. "  Why then would Justice Thomas, who believes in judicial restraint and three equal branches of  government, want someone who clerked for a judge like, say, Clinton appointee U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips?  And raise your hand if you can't predict how the four left-wing justices will vote on any social issue. That's what I thought.  And how did the courts get this polarized?  Robert Bork is square one in this adventure. Read about it.

Liberals have used, and are still using leftist judges as supernumerary legislators, a.k.a. activist judges, to dictate into law that which cannot be passed legislatively. Because the people hate it. Instead of black robes, today's federal judges ought wear a uniform that identifies which faction they support, American , or  Democrat . It would save thousands of hours that we now spend Googling to find who to blame for the most recent judicial outrage,  Carter, Clinton, or (fasten seat-belts) Obama?

The hanging judge? Or hang the judge?

"It is ... not our job to sit in judgment of whether state and local frustration about federal immigration policy is warranted.
