Justice Thomas Bon Mot

Thomas' questions came in case in which the court is considering placing new limits on the reach Res Ipsa Loquiturof a federal law that bans people convicted of domestic violence from owning guns.

With about 10 minutes left in the hourlong session, Justice Department lawyer Ilana Eisenstein was about to sit down after answering a barrage of questions from other justices.

Thomas then caught her by surprise, asking whether the violation of any other law "suspends a constitutional right.''

Nude v. Rude

She might also be the most linguistically gifted first lady, as she speaks four languages including heavily accented English. And, without doubt, she would be the only first lady to have posed in the buff while lying on a fur blanket handcuffed to a leather briefcase, as she did aboard Trump's jet for British GQ in 2000.

What the Hell, Michele Obama posed nude too.  Plus, she can only speak English and Ebonic, so there's that.

The Harvard study exposed 24 people [sic] to office environments with varying levels of volatile organic compounds as well as varying levels of carbon dioxide over six work days. The study found that for “seven of the nine cognitive function domains, average cognitive scores decreased at each higher level of CO2.” HERE

Reading the headline, I thought it meant to show how the  "man caused' climate change argument was making proponents dumber.  I was going to argue that, while it was dumb of them not to investigate claims, it was their inability to think critically that made them appear to have sub 100 I.Q.  But no, it was an exhaustive study of more than a dozen people that's being used to give dumb people more reason to think they're not dumb.

Rick Perry Cleared

"If you're trying to change minds and influence people it's probably not a good idea to say that virtually all elected Democrats are liars, but what the hell." TRKOF

After costing him time, money, effort and possibly tarnishing his presidential bid, former Texas Governor Rick Perry on Wednesday was finally cleared of charges that he abused his office when he threatened a veto and then issued it in 2013. His real crime? “Governing While Republican.”
Some liberals are no doubt disappointed to hear that a Texas appellate court today, on a 2-1 vote, reversed the conviction of former U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. They shouldn’t be. There were good reasons to think that DeLay’s prosecution in Texas for violations of state campaign finance law, like the federal prosecutions of former presidential candidate John Edwards and former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman, involved politically motivated charges brought by overzealous prosecutors. Today’s ruling is a window into the world of corporate access to elected officials, for sure. But it confirms that the big problem is not what’s illegal, but what’s legal. [Liberal California law professor Rick Hasen]

To a Democrat-influenced grand jury, Perry’s actions of, well, governing, meant he coerced a public servant and abused his office, and they issued an indictment. But Judge P.J. Keller, who wrote the court’s majority opinion dismissing the case, disagreed. “No law passed by the Legislature can constitutionally make the mere act of vetoing legislation a crime,” Keller wrote, and the court system cannot “examine the motives behind the veto or second-guess the validity of a veto.” Nevertheless, the frivolous prosecution did serve the Left’s goal: to stall a strong conservative’s political career. How much more support could the cowboy-boot wearing governor have generated if donors and voters weren’t wary that the indictment would stick?

Texas  Rick Perry
Travis County (Austin) Democrats are among the most blatantly corrupt people on God's earth. Drunk driver District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg used a malleable Democrat-influenced grand jury to effectively knock Perry out of his presidential bid, just as former prosecutor Ronnie Earle (now in Hell), "an unabashed partisan zealot," indicted DeLay (it took 3 grand Juries!) forcing him step down as House Whip.  In fact, Dem prosecutors in Austin have tried to indict (and failed)  virtually every elected GOP Senator.  My caveman solution: put another Charles Whitman in the Texas Tower with instructions to clean up Dodge. It's the Texas way.

He Gets It

At The Guardian, Jeb Lund explains that Trump's victories aren't mysterious if you understand why people are angry, which very few people in politics or the media appreciate, even now.

But you don’t need some grand overarching political science theory. There are millions of miserable people in America who know exactly who engineered the shattering of their worlds, and Trump isn’t one of those people – and, with the exception of Bernie Sanders, everyone else in the field is running on the basis of their experience being one of those people.

When you are abused and bullied enough, anyone willing to beat up or burn down whomever put you in that position is your friend. Even a bully can be a hero if he targets others bullies – and that is, more or less, what Trump has done since day one. [FULL]

This is just the damnedest series I've ever seen, animal wise.  Several years ago I picked a documentary on leopards as the best ever; now this wears that crown.  You can watch all three episodes on YouTube (above), but if you have Netflix, by all means go there. The HD video is fantastic. And, believe it or not, there is a tenstion that builds up at the end of each episode.

Trump et Boris

—  You Utter Berk

Mayor Boris Johnson presides over London, and he’s a member of Parliament, too, and he’s determined to preserve what’s left of the mighty Britain that once made tyrants tremble and despots squeak. Lately it’s the English, like the rest of Europe, who squeak under the lash of unelected bureaucrats who preside over the continent from Brussels.

Mr. Johnson, like the Donald, is a native New Yorker, “born in England,” he might say, “while my mother was temporarily in New York.” Indeed, the mayor and The Donald are not personally alike at all and it’s difficult to compare American and British politics, but they share a skepticism — if not contempt — for the ruling elites who connive in whittling down the greatest experiments of government in history.

But what they do share, whether the Oxford-educated mayor admits it or not, is an eagerness to take on the passivity and platitudes of the elites who are afraid to confront the mortal threat to the consent of the governed, the example that England once held up to the world, the example followed by the colonies planted in the new world.
“The big battalions of the argument [over Britain leaving the EU] are unquestionably ranged against people like me,” the mayor says. “We are portrayed as crazy, cracked and all the rest of it. I don’t mind. I happen to think that I am right. It is a very, very difficult case to make. I have thought an awful lot about it. I have thought about it for many years.” It’s impossible to imagine Donald Trump talking that way about his journey in politics.

Leaving the Union, as Mr. Johnson put it in the column he regularly writes for the London Daily Telegraph, “is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to vote for real change in Britain’s relations with Europe. This is the only opportunity we will ever have to show that we care about self-rule. A vote to Remain [in the European Union] will be taken in Brussels as a green light for more [control] and for the erosion of democracy.”  [Full]

Since Boris Johnson was born in New York City, it would seem that he qualifies to be President of the United States, which very thought  I find orgasmic.

His speech, entitled “Divine Instructions: Commands for 2016,” was streamed live on the National of Islam website.

In it,  Farrakhan covered a wide variety of topics including politics. He criticized politicians on both sides of the aisle for not helping black people, mentioning laws “written by Republicans” [Like ending slavery] that he says deny black people the same opportunities as whites. About Democrats, he said: “They look right at you because they want your vote…I don’t care what they promise.”
