1969 Canada Dry - I'm embarrased

Who's not panicked over Obama 2?

No panic yet, but real fear
Wes Pruden refers to the Democrats; The electorate is all panic and scared to death.

Mr. Obama has dropped his trademark professorial approach to the bully pulpit, his long and convoluted sentences that loop, twist and turn in search of something to say.
Jummy Obama
He’s serving up plainer speech. His aides explain that he has been studying Ronald Reagan for tips on how to better communicate, forgetting that the good-natured Great Communicator actually had something cheerful to communicate. This week ... he sounded less like the Gipper and more like Jimmy Carter turning to little Amy for advice on how to deal with the threat of “nukular” war.

Bill Clinton, who is no longer president except in his own mind, suggests that the solution to the budget dilemma is to agree to both cut spending and raise taxes, but not actually do either one. “What I’d like to see them do is agree on the outlines of a 10-year plan and agree not to start either [raising taxes] or the spending cuts until we’ve go this recovery underway,” Bubba told ABC News in Chicago, where he is holding forth at something called the “Clinton Global Initiative.” Finally, a plan—promising something and then not delivering—any politician could master.

Ersatz Jefferson

Government big enough to supply everything you need is big enough to take everything you have ... The course of history shows that as a government grows, liberty decreases.  Thomas Jefferson

Vladimir Obama

Next to Benjamin Franklin TJ is prolly the most quoted founding father; especially today when we're all looking for encouragement to throw this government away and feed the  tree of liberty with its red juices.  Except —  Thomas Jefferson never said that "...Government big enough ..." .  The  quotation is actually from an address by President Gerald Ford to the US Congress (12 August 1974).

Atheist activists quite often use spurious Jefferson quotes to advance their agenda.  The most notable being  the snippet " building a wall of separation between church and State." to justify attacks on religion.  The full quote comes from a letter he wrote to a Baptist group in Danbury, CT.
  • Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between church and State
Just the opposite of what the religious left portends.  Another quote they like is this:
  •  The Christian god is a three headed monster; cruel, vengeful and capricious. If one wishes to know more of this raging, three headed beast-like god, one only needs to look at the caliber of people who say they serve him. They are always of two classes: fools and hypocrites.
Ahem. -- Quotation 'Not Found,' popularly alleged to have been in a letter to his nephew, Peter Carr. Our editor, Cliff Walker, checked "by hand" every letter to Peter Carr included in the Multomah County Library's reader copy of Jefferson's Works and found nothing along these lines in any such letter.

I don't expect everyone to have a PhD in Quotery like me, so let me recommend Monticello.org's Spurious Quotations, and extended references from Tom Jefferson Wiki Quote.  With Obama around, this is also a good reference.

California tells online retailers to start collecting sales taxes from customers

The U.S. Supreme Court in 1992 ruled that states cannot tax businesses that aren't physically within their boundaries. Such taxes would regulate interstate commerce, which is a federal government prerogative.

Birthers Rule

Later, in an interview with The Daily Caller, Warren called Corsi an “execrable piece of shit.”

They double down, and accuse the President of the United States of perpetrating a fraud on the world by having released a forged birth certificate. Not because this claim is in any way based on reality, but to hold their terribly gullible audience captive to their lies. This is despicable, and deserves only ridicule. That’s why we committed satire in the matter of the Corsi book.”

This is what I get if I try to access Blogger using Firefox.  I can load my page, but can't comment, or even access Blogger.com without Error 400.  When I noticed a new comment on the chewing tobacco commercial I tried using IE and it worked.  WTF?  Can anyone else using Firefox comment to this post?

  Missile Defense Malpractice

National Security: As Iran tests its latest long-range missiles, a senator says a Pentagon study shows the White House's decision to let Moscow have a veto on missile defense has left us with systems that are "simply not credible."

When President Obama scrapped, at Russian insistence, President George W. Bush's plans for a European-based missile defense to protect America and Europe against the Iranian nuclear missile threat, he said it was because he had a better idea with better systems.

But portions of a forthcoming study by the Pentagon's Defense Science Board, disclosed during a hearing of the Senate Appropriations defense subcommittee by Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., says the Obama plan, employing what's called a phased-adaptive approach, won't work.

"Phased-adaptive approach," government speak for "making it up as we go along while we kick the can down the road ... ." [Full IBD]

Twenty-two percent, okay.  I don't care what group you're talking about; there'll always be 20% who neede culling.  But forty-seven?  Who are these people,  and what can they possibly be seeing different from me?  Forty-seven % Somewhat Approve of what?   This is terrible.  It'll take us years to hunt them all down.

UN's New Head of Disarmament - NorK!

The UN Conference on Disarmament held a plenary meeting this morning in which the Democratic People's Republic of Korea assumed the presidency of the Conference and members bid farewell to the departing ambassadors from Canada and the United Kingdom. I am not making this up.

The Quotable Rogue:

10 questions with ‘The Quotable Rogue’ editor Matt Lewis
TheDC's Matt Lewis is the editor of the new book, The Quotable Rogue: The Ideals of Sarah Palin in Her Own Words, and our own Jamie Weinstein interviewed him about it. Here's Lewis on his reasons for publishing the book:

"I was attracted to this project for two reasons: 1) Sarah Palin is arguably the most significant woman of the first decade of the 21st century, and 2) As some of her supporters have pointed out to me, she is the most 'known, unknown' figure in American politics. A lot of people, for example, still believe that she said, 'I can see Russia from my house.' She never said that. That was actually comedian Tina Fey. But people still think Palin said that. When you actually read Palin's real quotes in context, they are quite compelling."

Maybe WaPo and the NYT can crowdsource her quotes for any evidence of scandal. That trick always works.  [Full interview]

Al Gore off the Cliff

Part Two of The best article ever writ about the pied piper of the truly stupid.
Al Gore's Green Bridge To Nowhere

It is a measure of how far Gore has fallen that almost all the scanty attention the piece received focused on Gore’s criticism of what he sees as President Obama’s failure to lead on climate change.  Gore, like the global green movement he champions, has fallen by the wayside.  Despite terrible weather, despite tornadoes, droughts, food crises and high oil prices, the world conversation has moved on.  The question is why.

Once the political power of the climate movement, aided by an indulgent and largely unquestioning press, had pushed the climate agenda into the realm of serious politics, failure was inevitable.  The only question was whether the comprehensive green meltdown would occur before or after the movement achieved its core political goal of a comprehensive and binding global agreement on greenhouse gasses.

Stoned Puppy Hoax- Only Muslims do this shit

I'm sure it will be no surprise to most people to learn that the Jewish Court Sentences Dog To Death story was hoaxed.  Common sense dictates that only Muslims and San Francisco hippies would get dogs stoned.  Nevertheless reader Shayne sent this story.
