I
love Ann Coulter because she's been a pit bull in a ring of go
along-get along, weak spined, Republican leaning media pussies.
True, more and more I've found myself
occupying polar opposite positions on strategy, but that's okay. With
the exception of Obama's COLB (where she presented none), Ann bolsters
her positions with sound and reasoned argument. But, I am more
than a bit surprised by tactics used in her attack on Newt
this week. I'm disappointed, actually.

(During the House ethics investigation of Gingrich, he produced notes
in which he reminds himself to "allow expression of warm/smiling/softer
side.")
After Gingrich had been speaker for a brief two years, the Republican
House voted 395-28 to reprimand him and fine him $300,000 for ethics
violations.
(Sen. Bob Dole loaned Gingrich the money in what was called the first
instance of an airbag being saved by a person.)
That
ethics committee ruling was another case of Republicans, led by Rep.
Jennifer Dunn (R WA). bowing to media pressure, and finding Newt guilty
of a trumped up Democrat charge involving taxes and his television history course. He was later found
innocent
of the charges by the IRS, a fact that to this
day has gone unreported by the airwaves media.
To put a finer point on the era's :Ethics Committee conduct, Dick
Gerhardt
was simultaneously being
investigated for what amounted to real estate
fraud and tax evasion. He was cited for lying to the committee
three
times, but let of f with a slap on the wrist. Ann Coulter is
aware of
these facts, but chose to take the low road. It wasn't
necessary, as her other insights attest (IMO). I too would rather
have Romney or whats-his-name over Newt, but criminal behavior is not
one of Newt's weaknesses.
