Eyeball Update “ ##### Sorry you posted this so late. I would ask the doc if you could get the dominant eye done in distant and the non dominant in near. Then you have both and don't need glasses for either. # posted by  Blogger Meryl : 1/6/14, 9:42 AM in (CRAP) I did read that Meryl, and it happened to conform with what I had myself pondered (I was  a US Army optician, so have some understanding of this stuff).   The more I thought about it, the more I knew it was the right way.  When the Ophthalmologist's office called to confirm surgery time, I asked whether it was possible at this late date to switch lenses from near sighters (being able  to see things up close), to far sighters (good distant vision)?  She was hesitant, and copped out with,  "ask the Dr if he has that lens when you show up for the surgery. " I didn't,  but decided I would ask about getting my left eye fitted for distance. Which is what I did this morning at my post-up meeting.    This is where fate seems to have stepped in—if having the dominant eye far sighted is of any consequence,  as Blogger Meryl suggested. I asked him if I could get a far sighted lens in my left eye; he looked at me quizzically.  I said, "Well here's what I'm thinking.  If I have perfect near vision in my right (dominant) rye, and perfect far sighted in the left, I won't need glasses since the brain will use the best combo given the circumstances."  He said, "But I gave you a far-sighted O.D. lens."  Looks of panic exchanged betwixt him and assistant. Wonderful, I said.  He had in fact misunderstood me, or I him, about my selecting near-sighted;  but how serendipitous was that? He said, "Well you're right.  There are people who ask for that, but some then hate it." Why? Because their  right and left eyes are a tad off register, with bad results.  Then I have to  go back and change lenses.  [BUT]  If you think that's something you want, let's try it.  For the next three weeks don't wear any glasses.  See how you adjust. Which is what I shall do.  My left eye is currently a not bad 20/40, but clouding quickly.  A day after surgery my right eye is 20/25, and will improve.  If it works, and it already seems to be working, than I will not require glasses, and people won't call me four-eyed geek!  Not that anyone ever did.  That's what we called kids with glasses in grade school.  Then we beat them up.  I am so sorry Howard (the Coward). ”

Suppose that letter also stated that the government is going to appoint a stranger to handle your affairs for you at your expense? That would certainly be scary enough but it gets worse. What if that letter also stated: “A determination of incompetency will prohibit you from purchasing, possessing, receiving, or transporting a firearm or ammunition. If you knowingly violate any of these prohibitions, you may be fined, imprisoned, or both pursuant to the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, Pub.L.No. 103-159, as implemented at 18, United States Code 924(a)(2).”?   US veterans started  receiving letters  from the government last year informing them that they are disabled and not allowed to own, purchase or possess a firearm. If the veteran does decide to purchase a firearm he will by fined, imprisoned or both. This comes on page 2  of the VA letter. This outrage was reported by Red Flag nearly a year ago--and it's still ongoing?!?  The Obamas borrow freely from the Leninist-Stalinist technique of marginalizing  critics by declaring them non compos mentis (or birthers).  Next step:  warehousing in state institutions, or executing them.   Still, you have to understand that the  Obamas recognize that retired military are the largest single block of old-school Americans,  who  have a cultural memory of  pre-Clinton-Obama  Americana.  And who possess both experience with firearms and a history of using them in defense of their nation.  ”

My Best Posted Picture of 2013 Last year I posted 1,875 pictures on this blog; that's an average of  5+ per day.  Before Christmas I scanned through them all, and picked about 200 that grabbed me.  This was the winner.  The reason I didn't announce the award on New Years Eve, like I planned, was I didn't want this to be the winner.  But it is.  But Why? I think a good photograph, or painting, should be evocative.  Should immediately take you someplace you didn't expect to go.  This 60s era photo did that.  I owned that exact sport coat, and my High School gf, the first time I ever went "steady" (and the last),  is a spitting image of bike girl ,  from the waist up anyway. Her name was Cheryl.  That's where it took me.  Your destination will be different, but just as pleasant I hope.

Getting touched in bad places

CRAP Won't be able to do much stuff for awhile.  First thing Monday morning I'll be under the knife.  One-eye monster surgery.  No exercise or lifting for more than a week. I have to tell you that I am already nervous as hell, because I don't let anybody touch it ever; it's a phobia.  MoSup has been putting pre-op drops (of three meds)  into my eye, 4 td, for three days now.  She needs a crowbar to keep my eye open, so how the hell am I going to react when having to stare at a light on the ceiling while they cut the lens out of my eye?  The answer is they clamp it open.  That's like being in a state of paralysis while the medical examiner saws open your skull.   Worst thing I've ever had to do, but I can't even see the target at 25 yards anymore.  My left eye isn't as bad, but gets worse by the month, so that one gets done next month.  If you've been through cataract surgery, you know that you basically have 2 choices of replacement lenses.  The $1000 lens comes in either far-sighted or near-sighted.  The $3000 lens supposedly focuses much like natural vision, so you don't need glasses at all.  Insurance pays for option A, the other comes out of my pocket,  so I've chosen to be near-sighted since most of my time is spent reading or the computer.  I'll wear glasses for driving.  Pray for me. That I don't cry like a baby tomorrow,  and have to be restrained.

Harpold I got caught up in these last night.  The video on your left is all around delicious, but the Pelosi part is groin-grabbingly sacrilicious.  The video on the right is a one hour HBO show, ca. Bush-43 years.  Don't matter.  It reminded me of the importance of using the "sandwich" to set a bipartisan tone in order to better destroy your target. Reminded me, but impossible for me to do anymore since I'm in full combat mode, and have little self control. I'm hoping to mellow with age. Aside, a testament to Miller's style is manifest in how Media Matters handled his Pelosi assault.  Anyone else would have received the MSNBC approved screed reserved for Sarah Palin. .
