ARCHER

Here's happiness.  You know how you really like a television series, and think you've seen all the episodes?  And then you watch them all over and discover that, somehow, you skipped over an entire 13 episode season!  And it's like you just found  $20 in an old coat?  That just happened  to me with Archer!,  my new best series of all time (Netflix.)  It's comedy genius.  Thank you, that person who mentioned it in an ago comment.

If you walk in place, lifting just your heels, while swinging arms vigorously, fitbit gives you full credit.  I'm not trying to cheat (senseless, that), but I hurt me knee a few days ago and really aggravated it yesterday.  I swing a  5# bar bell in each hand and, believe me, it's a workout.  You're welcome.

3 primary challengers means he wins

Time to put him in the blender

We now know what John Boehner really thinks of his Republican colleagues, and those Americans who gave him a chance to be Speaker in 2010.

On the issues front, Boehner, who faces three primary opponents, revealed that out of all the problems facing the nation, the one that he is willing to go to the wall to achieve is immigration reform.   [...]
By revealing his fealty to the giant corporate and elitist interests ... Boehner made clear what most had suspected for a long while.  The man who was at best a reluctant warrior in the battle to reduce the size and scope of government is willing to risk power for his drinking buddy’s corporate interests. [Boehner's Disdain Spells Trouble]

There's a hole in your bucket dear Liza, dear Liza
TEXT
We get messages from the gas company telling us that we used too much power at such and such time,  and offer tips on how to cut back  In real time.  Let's be gentle and accept that the gas company's smart meters are nothing more than a labor saving device that throw a million meter readers out of a job but don't result in lower rates, but there is nothing sinister about them.  There is no getting around it though, the gas company, and therefore any government agency that have a notion, can know about your habits.

They already have access to your driving habits, and you pay for the privilege (OnStar tracking,  manufacturer installed event data recorders (EDR), cell phones.)  If you watched the BBC series SPOOKS you've seen M-I5 access London's vast network of CCTV cams and search for people via face recognition.  In real time. Futuristic?  If you use Chrome or have Firefox's Google image source plug in, you can find all events of a single picture in a heartbeat.  How much fun is that?  Way.  But like the man said, we will give government the tools to enslave us, and thank them for it each step of the way.

But here's what, for me, is the kiss of death.

Liza dear, we noticed that you wore torn panties on your date with Leo.  Your father and I were so embarrassed; it's  a reflection on how we raised you.

Think back, boy and girls, about your first clumsy sexual encounter at the drive-in, or under the porch.  Or your honeymoon. Or taking cigarette money from mom's purse.  Or any moment at all.   Google's smart contact lens system with a CAMERA built in means that, in the future, all of it can be posted to Facebook. There is no going back.

I think Earth inhabitants have reached this stage before, multiple times in its 4 billion year history.  It's about time.

With the news this week that more than 600,000 Washington residents have acquired new health care plans through the state exchange, U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers said it’s unlikely the Affordable Care Act will be repealed.

“We need to look at reforming the exchanges,” the Eastern Washington Republican said Thursday.

Update: Rep. Michael Grimm (R NY) to be indicted after long investigation

I don't care what he's accused of, or even if he's guilty.  The timing here is just too-too cute.

In the run-up to the 2006 elections, when Dems retook the House by charging that the GOP was the Party of Corruption, Tom Delay was indicted (it took three different Grand Juries), and in October Federal agents raided the homes of Rep. Curt Weldon's (R PA) daughter,  and one of his closest political supporters in an investigation into whether the veteran Republican congressman (he lost his seat) used his influence to benefit himself and his daughter's lobbying firm.  They won.  Pelosi was made Speaker.  You know the rest.  It's what they do.

Do I have to recount the depth of D-Party corruption; or its members who have failed to be indicted by the Obama DOJ?  Including the Attorney General? Fkm.

Who’s in charge here!!

Who’s in charge here!!  (sorry, no humor in this one)  Metzger

Some time back (and this kind of list comes out somewhere about every year or so), I saw a list of crimes, accusations, and arrests involving the 535 members of Congress.   It’s never an accurate representation of the misdeeds of any particular congress because the statistics have been gathered over a number of years.

The numbers and varieties of crimes, however, are staggering when considered in light of the fact that Congress and the Executive Branch are supposed to be our leaders, the ones who crank out gazillions of new laws and regulations for the rest of us to be confused and stifled by.

Just a partial list of the crimes and misdemeanors includes fraud, spousal abuse, public intoxication, DUI, tax evasion, delinquent payments, bounced checks, insider trading, assault, drug possession, contempt, swearing to false official documents, abuse of power, mismanagement of public funds, lewd and lascivious behavior, sexual harassment, money laundering, perjury, arms trafficking, bribery, conspiracy, obstruction of justice, consorting with prostitutes, and even shoplifting.

Add to that the fact that members of Congress cannot be charged with certain crimes while in office.  For example, Harry Reid frequently and deliberately spreads rumors, disinformation, and lies about political opponents, as he did when he said Mitt Romney hadn’t paid taxes in over 10 years.  Harry loves to toss around tidbits of unfounded gossip, tantamount to slander and libel, as he is doing about the Koch brothers and Bundy.  The problem is that he can do it with impunity while in office.

I used to be proud that the US was undeniably and unquestionably the best place in the world to live for security, opportunity, and personal liberty.  Well, it just ain’t that way any more.  Yesterday while out pulling weeds in my back yard I managed to twist my ankle, so I spent a lot of time indoors listening to the news.  In one day, just ONE DAY, I heard mention or discussion or updates on the following:
  • TSA excessive searches and corruption
  • HHS disinformation and ineptitude (mostly over the ACA)
  • IRS employees failing to pay income taxes
  • Scholarship athletes trying to form unions
  • Students prohibited from passing out copies of the Constitution on college campuses
  • BLM bullying and land grabs
  • Government gun running (mostly the Fast & Furious scandal)
  • Various security agencies spying on private citizens
  • Selective enforcement of existing laws
  • Complete surrender in the illegal alien situation
  • Leniency releases of prisoners on drug convictions
  • STILL no arrests or prosecutions in the Benghazi fiasco
  • Iran elected to the UN Commission on the Status of Women
  • Putin gob-smacking US influence
  • Iran still enriching uranium
  • The current administration hasn’t produced a budget in 6 years
  • The current administration’s foreign policy is speak softly and carry a linguini
  • Veterans dying while administrators play peekaboo with appointment schedules
  • The US could be energy independent except for politics (Keystone and ANWR)
  • The US AttyGen says states do not have to enforce laws they don’t like
And the list goes on and on and on.  And that was just ONE DAY’s worth of news.  We’ve reached a point at which life is imitating art, and the “art” is porno, rap, and pulp fiction.  The fish stinks from the head down, and when the people in the White House are spendthrift wastrels, race-baiters, hypocrites, and lawbreakers, the people eventually figure that if the gubmint can behave like thugs and arbitrarily select which of its own rules and statutes it will follow, they can do likewise.

No way any of my direct descendants will ever experience the freedom, the good fortune, and the faith in government that I had for the first 50 or so years of my life.  The past 25 years of it have been characterized by partisan politics, selfish public servants, monstrous mismanagement, and dangerous decline.  And I don’t see it getting any better soon, because by the time Soetoro leaves office, we’ll be so deep in old, stale, borrowed kimchee that we’ll never be able to work our way out and be competitive in world economics as we were back in the 50s and 60s.

Rome, Britain . . . move over; the American Empire is about to join you on the road to ignominy.

Electro Library

Electronic Liberry

All you need is a library card and you're in business. Sign in  with your number, and  have access to the books, magazines, newspapers, audio books, tapes, etc.  available in your local library.  Find a book you like, and you're sent to Amazon (there are other outlets) where they  send it to your Kindle (or tablet).  If the library's copy is out on borrow,  you can put a hold on it and be notified when it's available.  Just like the real deal.

The first book I borrowed was 50 Shades of Gray  because it was displayed in the popular book section, and I recognized it as a hot topic a few years ago.   Other than that, I had no idea what it was about.  It is a girl

Oh My
book, which means-given the contents-  it's a bloke book too.  Similar to the Nightstand pulp sex books of  your yoot.   Not particularly well written (IMO), but extremely graphic and full of ... well, everything.  I went through about three hundred pages pretty quick, then suddenly lost interest.  Evidently women today dream of being subjected to all things that are largely man fantasy to begin with.  Who knew?

The book I really like though is American Sniper
(I borrowed the audio book (sample listen available).

Gripping, eye-opening, and powerful, American Sniper is the astonishing autobiography of SEAL Chief Chris Kyle, who is the record-holding sniper in U.S. military history. Kyle has more than 150 officially confirmed kills (the previous American record was 109), though his remarkable career total has not been made public by the Pentagon.

It's narrated by John Pruden.  He has the Texas thing down pat (Chris Kyle is a Texan),  and has perfect pitch for manly men characters, and Chris Kyle is that.   I stuff my iPad into my sweatshirt and earphone it  every time I take a walk.  Doing a lot of walking because of it, and trouncing MoSup in Fit Bit (had 6400 steps by 7AM today).   Helluva book.  I'll be sorry when it ends.

Aside.  I went to the library to find out how it all worked. The lady gave me 2 sheets (typed both sides)  of various procedures and directions.  Couldn't get it done without them.

Acid rain my ass

       WHAT GUMMINT DOES

Capitol Dome damage is so bad, 'We're going to lose it,' warns Senator Shaheen (D NH).
“

Guess what?  The real value of the Capitol building is as a symbol of our nation's committment to honest government.  Sen. Shaheen.  Y'all have destroyed that almost entirely.
Lawmakers are rallying around the 150-year-old U.S. Capitol Dome, weather-whipped and torn open by acid rain, worried that if an 11th-hour restoration isn’t fully funded, its most important traits could be lost forever.
“If this work isn't done,” warned Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., “we're going to lose the dome, we're going to lose it as it truly, historically is.”

A big fix, added Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., is needed, “so that we don't lose these treasures forever.”

The two Senate appropriators are joining to help Architect of the Capitol Stephen T. Ayers secure the money needed to complete the $60 million restoration projection, set to go into final stages next month with the erection of scaffolding to surround the whole dome, just like that done recently at the Washington Monument.

The interior is also in need of restoration, and the Capitol Rotunda is temporarily closed as interior safety netting is installed to begin that $21 million project.

Didn't we just repair the dome?  What? Oh.  Just the statue atop of the dome?   Wow, seems like yesterday, but it was ca. 1993, when  "the United States Capitol Preservation Commission provided $780,000 in privately raised funds, which covered all project costs."

Quaint, that.

Kind of a slap in the face today though, to hear Democrats like Shaheen fuss about finding $81 Mil to restore the dome inside and out.  Hell, that's vacation pocket money for the Obamas, ain't it?  But this is what really pisses me off about Bedard's article.

"Capitol Dome, weather-whipped and torn open by acid rain ... ."

In the 1980's Congress authorized the most extensive (and expensive) study ever on the effect of "acid rain."  That issue was the linchpin of what became the "1990 Clean Air Act." In January of that year, I read in a science magazine that the study had been completed, with no evidence of acid rain. I kept waiting for this paper to be introduced during the debate, but it wasn't, and congress blithely passed that abortion of a bill, and Bush 41 signed it.  That Fall, 60-Minutes aired a show on the myth of "acid rain," as though the results had just been released.  And here it is again.

The State Dept. "Quadrennial Diplomacy and Development Review, known around the Department by the clunky acronym QDDR, was created by Secretary Clinton in 2010 to "provide a sweeping assessment of how the Department of State … can become more efficient, accountable, and effective(serve as a chronicled paen to her Sec/State accomplishemnts,  in the runup to her presidency)"

[...] When ( State Department spoke-ette)Psaki announced that the 2014 edition of the QDDR is now underway, to "build on the foundation established by the 2010 review," Associated Press reporter Matt Lee asked: "Off the top of your head, can you identify one tangible achievement that the last QDDR resulted in?"
"Were there any of these that didn’t simply involve rearranging of the bureaucratic deck chairs or shuffling responsibilities between one bureau to another or creating a new level of bureaucracy?"

Psaki could not. "Well, Matt, obviously it’s an extensive, expansive process," she began. Noting that she came to the State Department after the first review was finished, Psaki said, "I am certain that those who were here at the time, who worked hard on that effort, could point out one."

"So I’m sure there are a range of things that were put into place that I’m not even aware of were a result," Psaki concluded.

"I won't hold my breath," said Lee.

Psaki's non-answer created an obviously embarrassing situation for the Department, and on Wednesday Psaki came to the briefing with an answer ready to go. "After the 2010 QDDR," she began: [Full Horror]
