Superman 2.1

Rent Superman 2: The Donner Cut
What I didn’t know at the time was that Superman and Superman 2 were conceived and shot as a single massive undertaking. ... Another director was brought on who had a different vision of the sequel, one that included bad jokes and removing any trace of characterization or good acting. That was the film we got in theaters.

But in 2006, thanks to popular demand, we finally got a DVD release of Donner’s original. This isn’t just a few different camera angles, about half the film has never been seen and let me assure you, it’s the best half. I saw another review of this release that said if you haven’t seen the Donner cut of Superman 2, you haven’t seen Chris Reeve’s best work as Superman. I think that’s true.

SOROS LOSES AGAIN

The (A) big loser in this election?
George Soros.

The first notable thing is Soros’ funding of the Secretary of State Project — which is basically an attempt to elect Secretaries of State around the country willing to impose Democratic-friendly election laws in an attempt to tilt the playing field in their favor on election day.

Well, yesterday Republicans won 17 of 26 races for Secretary of State taking six of those offices (Arkansas, Ohio, New Mexico, Colorado, Iowa and Kansas) from Democrats. Republicans now control 25 offices to Democrats 22.

And then there was Soros’ backing of a measure in California to put control of redistricting back in the hands of the state legislature, a move that would obviously benefit Democrats. It failed, while another measure to give California’s Citizens Redistricting Commission increased authority over redrawing congressional districts:

DIE DAILY OLBERMANN

Today's Cheap Laugh
Keith Olbermann

Olbermann's Daily Day

I really have lately made an effort to ignore the daily Olbermann.  Generating laffs and/or outrage at his expense is, to quote C.  Montgomery Burns, "like stealing candy from a baby."  But this is too precious to ignore. He's written a book.  It consists entirely of transcripts from his television show.  That is watched almost entirely by conservative bloggers looking for tomorrow's Olbermann riposte.  The Daily Caller sums it up nicely in the first few paragraphs of its review.
MSNBC host Keith Olbermann’s new book, “Pitchforks and Torches: The Worst of the Worst, From Beck, Bill, and Bush to Palin and Other Posturing Republicans,” has a lot in common with Olbermann’s daily television show: It’s built around the overwritten, overwrought meanderings of a smart but lazy man better known for anger than substance, who fancies himself an avenger for justice but is really just a thin-skinned tyrant in pundit’s clothing. Also, both feature hilarious images of Keith Olbermann’s face. (LMAO)

There’s a reason “Pitchforks and Torches” so closely resembles “Countdown.” The new book consists entirely of transcripts of Olbermann’s tirades from “Countdown” — what the jacket copy calls “his most potent barrages,” which sounds vaguely disgusting.

The 3 messiest undecided races

Pre-Decided

The Daily Caller lists its guide to the 3 messiest undecided races.

  • Washington Senate: The race for Senate between Republican Dino Rossi and Democratic incumbent Patty Murray has yet to be called. Murray currently holds about a 2 percentage point lead with 70 percent of the precincts reporting
Rossi's prospects: Three words: Judge John Bridges
  • Minnesota governor: This three-way race seems headed for a recount. Democrat Mark Dayton leads Republican Tom Emmer by just under 10,000 votes with 100 percent of the precincts reporting.

In Iowa, Voters Oust Judges Over Marriage Issue

DES MOINES — In a rebuke of the state supreme court with implications for judicial elections across the country, voters here removed three justices who participated in a ruling last year that made the state the first in the Midwest to permit same-sex marriage. ...
I don't care what the issue is, judges who legislate from the bench deserve have to be removed.  There's a bit of a conundrum however.  How do these same voters explain  Tom Harkin ?

"My observation of Sarah Palin," says CBS News political analyst Nicolle Wallace, "is that she is one of the shrewdest political figures in our country at this moment. She's also one of the most electric." [CBS NEWS- Palin Emerges with Even More Clout]

Sarah On Top

(CBS)  Most of the candidates Sarah Palin endorsed chalked up victories Tuesday.

And that scorecard leaves pundits wondering whether she'll now train her sights directly on the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.

As CBS News Correspondent Jeff Glor reports, .the former GOP vice presidential nominee backed 43 candidates for the House. Thirty of them won, with races involving nine others still undecided.

“ Look, what he's talking about is the absorption of as much of the private sector by the U.S. government as possible, from the banking business, to the mortgage industry, the automobile business, to health care. I do not want the government in charge of all of these things… See, here's the point. Everybody thinks it's outrageous to say. Look, even my staff, "Oh, you can't do that." Why not? Why is it any different, what's new, what is unfair about my saying I hope liberalism fails? Liberalism is our problem. Liberalism is what's gotten us dangerously close to the precipice here. Why do I want more of it?

So I can answer it, four words, "I hope he fails." And that would be the most outrageous thing anybody in this climate could say. Shows you just how far gone we are. Well, I know, I know. I am the last man standing. [...]

Affirmative Action Out in AZ

Arizona Bans Affirmative Action

Killing the Race Beast

Arizona voters on Tuesday approved Proposition 107 to ban the consideration of race, ethnicity or gender by units of state government, including public colleges and universities. With 2,075 of 2,239 precincts reporting as of early Wednesday morning, unofficial results from the state had the measure passing with just under 60 percent support.

Don't get panties twisted Mr. Holder; California, Michigan, Nebraska and Washington State have already imposed such bans.  Now, what about the other 52 states?

Carving up the turkey

Downplayed, but critically important -
Republicans make huge gains
in state legislative chambers

Pre-election, Republicans controlled both legislative chambers in 14 states, Democrats controlled them in 27, 8 states’ chambers split power between the parties, and single chambered Nebraska has a “nonpartisan senate.”

Boned Jello
As of the publication of this article, the Republicans had flipped 14 state chambers, thereby controlling both legislative chambers in 22 states and leaving the Democrats
to control them in 21, with 6 states’ chambers splitting power between the parties, and Nebraska continuing to boast a single chambered “nonpartisan senate.”

With an increase in their control over state legislatures across the country, Republicans have the opportunity to throw their weight around in the redistricting process and gerrymander their way into more secure majorities for the coming years.

Alas: Here's the only results I could find from Southern Massachusetts - Via the Baltimore Sump (if it sounds like they're reporting a home team victory - they are)

General Assembly: Democratic bastions solid

Early results show no signs of any cracks in the Democratic Party's hegemony in legislative races in Montgomery, Prince George's and Charles counties. Republicans, who had entertained hopes of a few breakthroughs, are so far being shut out. The same goes for the eastern part of Howard. Rural western Howard is so far holding for the Republicans.

Bachman v. Mathews

" .. they're trying to say MSNBC
is in the tank for Obama!"

A book will be written about all the sorry-ass things Democrats (including their media) have already said, and will say about this election.  Here's one that's bound to make it.

Rep. Michele Bachman (R MN) was being interviewed on Hard Ball's election coverage show (MSNBC)  by Chris Mathews.  Annoyed that she wasn't giving him answers he wanted, he asked, "Are you hypnotized ... in a trance?"  Bachman responded:

"The American people are the ones...coming out of our trance...I think people are thrilled tonight. I imagine that thrill is probably maybe quite not so tingly on your leg any more."

But that's not even the good part.  Here's NewsBuster's account:

Bachman's point was hilariously underlined by a sign behind her that referenced Matthews' now famous Barack Obama induced thrills, which caused MSNBC's Rachel Maddow to whine: "Can we talk for a second about what they're trying to do there? With that sign they're trying to say MSNBC is in the tank and NBC is in the tank for Obama. That's what they're trying to say."

That no longer has to be said, Rachel baby.

Cut in half

Tax Cuts

To listen to all of the liberals on CNN and MSNBC tonight the most outrageous position you can hold is opposition to raising taxes. To listen to Maddow, Spitzer et al. raising taxes is simply what all non-extremists think is necessary, even decent. Cutting spending? Well, that’s foolish.

It’s really amazing what a bubble these people are in.

Come on Jonah, this is elementary.  Tax cuts mean program cuts. Program cuts mean less spending. Less spending is death. Besides, MSNBC?

We have a librarian at my school only 2-1/2 days a week, as she must split her time between 2 high schools. When she’s not there, parent volunteers staff the library so that it’s available to students.

A union grievance was filed, and today we were told that the library cannot be open anymore when she’s not there. Teachers can take their classes in there, but books cannot be checked out. The library will no longer be available for students to do make-up tests in on the days when our official librarian isn’t on site.

Legalizing Pot

The Political Skank Hillary

You can see it coming.

The most interesting recent political phenomenon, after the Teaparty, was the emergence of the PUMA (Party Unity My Ass) movement in 2008.  These were hard (HARD) core Hillary supporters; stunned by what they (accurately) believed was the Democrat Party's betrayal of their goddess Hillary.  When the SIEU pulled off a massive voter fraud to give Obama a critical western primary win in Nevada, they flipped.

From my vantage point, everything they railed about were the very things we put up with the Clinton's Democrat Party.  Illegal fundraising; vote fraud; baldfaced lies, etc.  Still, I welcomed them, their fervor, and their knowledge of how the left operates.  I believed there were enough of them to deny Obama's election in November, alas

My favorite of the PUMA blogger was Texas Darlin' (TD Blog).  When she and her blog archives disappeared after the election, I entertained the thought  that her efforts against Obama had allowed her to also see how filthy the Democrat Party, and by extension the Clintons, had always been, which epiphany caused her to commit ritual Seppukblog.  Too bad.  She was sharp as a tack.

Today the PUMA movement is  exemplified by HILLBUZZ.  I've been interested to see whether they too would connect the dots, and do a public Mea Culpa.  Guess not.

The argument is unpersuasive, missing entirely the point.  Monica Lewinsky was merely Bill Clinton's income tax conviction used to put elusive criminal Al Capone away.  While her husband is a sociopath motivated by power; Hillary is a greedy liar motivated by the money power brings.  Even today, while her enablers and cohorts are packed off to prison (my God, how many have there been?) she escapes when  connected friends leave her name off the indictment.  Her success as Sec/State mirrors Obama's own efforts to spread a Pax-Obama by Conciliation.  She's a zero.  A joke.   She (almost)  makes Madeleine Albright look like Thomas Jefferson.  Now, she's skated out of town to avoid being tarred by the administration's  failure about to be manifested  at the polls.   And once again, friends in high places are preparing a paean, another false legacy, to this Obama without a penis (or at least a smaller one).

Paean To A Punk
