The world's best road?

I enjoyed the hell out of this 25 minute HD drive along Switzerland's Gotthard Pass.  Truly, at times I was really there. I did think the driver was a bit of a pussy, but then we didn't  die.  At one point I got so annoyed with a white BMW in front of us—it seemingly  sped up every time we were about to pass— that I was actually hurling invective at him! Just like in real life. For your edification I've provided this appropriate oath to shout at the driver; one that he may understand.

"Sortez de ma manière tout putain de trou du cul!"

I like that the only audio is the sound of the Ferrari's naturally aspirated V-8,  and throaty exhaust.  Especially in tunnels.  Then I remembered the Swiss fighter video of yore, with the  Ameno-Era soundtrack.  Here it is, all 3:41 of it.  There are a few stretches where it seems to fit right in.  DIY.  You're welcome.

  • PS - An alternative soundtrack is Top Gear's favorite (not) driving song- Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell
  • PPS. Helly will actually pee her pantaloons, and claim that she did not.

The purpose of this site, is to keep friends and family (at least those that are interested) updated on our South America Odyssey, and provide a convenient place that can occasionally be visited to see what we are up to.

May 31, 2013

As you know, we took care of the house in Denver, by renting to a really nice couple that we are sure will care for the place.  On May 9th, we hopped on a plane (which was hit by lightening en-route) and flew down to Buenos Aires, where we are now.  We stayed in a hotel for the first week, and we have moved into a two bedroom apartment, where we will staying for the remainder of our stay here.  In late June, we will leave Argentina, and take a ferry to Montevideo, where we will rent a car, which we will have during our week stay in Punta de Este (a resort area in Uruguay) which, "in season" is the South American playground for the Rich and Famous...... which explains why we are going there "off season" (don't forget,....it is winter here).

After Punta, we will go back to Montevideo and stay for, as yet, an undetermined period..  We've really enjoyed the way we approached Buenos Aires....which involved getting a lot of the initial touristy stuff out of the way, and basically assuming the role of residents (we already have our favorite "hang out" spots, restaurants, etc.....).  We essentially work during the day, when the market is open (just as we did in Denver), and then decide if we want to head out, or cook in the apartment.  We plan on approaching our time in Montevideo the same way. (more)

Cuzzin Ricky and his lovely C/R GF are in South America checking out suitable places to pitch their tent.  Very interesting journal, with lots of nice pictures of women and food.  Which just reminded me of this story.

Ricky was the Club Officer at Fort Eustis in the 70's.  I dropped by to see him when in the area, and was shown into his very spacious office.  Just as I entered the room a completely nude girl comes walking out of the bathroom.  Ricky introduces me, and she leaves.

I am slack-jawed.

Ricky explains that because the civilian bars around Eustis all have nude dancing, he was increasingly unable to meet his budge which depended on liquor profit.  So ... .  The dancers used his bathroom to changw into their skin.

I am not making that up.

I've been engaged in a secret project that rather severely limits my blogging, which some will find of  salubrious  consequence, but I still keep up with things, although belatedly.  Like the passing of the Senator from New Jersey.

The late Sen. Lautenberg; what can we say?  It would  hard to find anyone else quite like him.  His effect on government was immediate; always noticeable.  Frank influenced and enriched everyone around him; his  personal work ethics really helped others  in the senate stand out. The resourceful Mr. Lautenberg could always solve problems in his associate's best interest. His absence will, I'm sure, have an immediate effect on the United States Senate.

A letter from Molasses

Rodge:

CLASS DOESN'T MAKE THE NEWS!
Green and white shirt, black tee shirt, gray pants and tennis shoes.

How many people know that he hosts a few  Wounded Warrior 10 weekends at his ranch every year? Every year!

Not what you expect to see.   Dancing with a "Wounded Warrior;" she has lost  a leg but she still dances and is still every bit a warm desirable woman. .

I guarantee, we will Never see a story or picture  like this from NBC, CBS, ABC, The New York Times,  or  Washington Post.

Molasses from Texas

Gee, I would hope not M.  She kinda looks like his daughter (who I think is quite attractive).

This cannot be real. Can it?

Kuala Lampoon
“
In February 2011, Bush was forced to cancel a scheduled appearance in Geneva, Switzerland after human rights groups filed a criminal complaint charging him with violating international treaties against torture.

His trouble increased dramatically a year ago when Bush -- along with former Vice President Dick Cheney, former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, and several other top Bush administration officials -- were convicted of war crimes in absentia by a special war crimes tribunal in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Commission was convened and conducted according to internationally recognized procedures and rules of evidence, and the week-long hearing ended with the five-member panel unanimously delivering guilty verdicts.

Stage  Right:  John Wayne storms into the courtroom and machine guns the lot.   He later wins an Academy Award and Congressional Medal of Honor from a grateful nation.

Watch the video long enough to get your fill of Univ. of Illinois law professor  Francis Boil (about 60 seconds).  He served as prosecutor at the Kuala Lampoon kangaroo court trial.  Priceless.  I am quite sure, having been around the type all too often,  that Francis was still in elementary school when his smug classroom demeanor caused several classmates to kick shit out him.  Not during recess; during class.  The teacher turned her head.  Today.most people exposed to his posturing feel like doing the same thing, but the sonofabitch is a lawyer.  This whole thing is just bizarre.

BASEBALL FUN

TECHNO THRILLS

Res Ipsa Loquitor

I was, until  ambulance chaser Peter Angelos bought and ruined the Orioles, an avid fan.  When Angelos forced Manager Davey Johnson out, just hours before he was named American League manager of the year (1997), I quit.  I've missed nothing but a lot of grief in the ensuing years. Last year Hucker got my attention with tales of sensational play under manager Buck Showalter, and the club's return to building from below.  This enthusiasm got me to actually watch a full game.  I'm not a regular yet.  For one thing I couldn't put a name on a single position;  these guys were all strangers.

Now I  Google  "Orioles" whenever I want a quick game score.  Today when I checked, the O's were losing to Detroit 1-0.  I fiddled with some links and found this amazing deal.  It follows the game in real time, instantaneously (seemingly) showing the flight of pitches thrown, and what type of pitch it was, e.g.,  four seam fastball in the dirt.  You can at anytime listen to the radio broadcast, Res Ipsa Loquitoror watch it live. I stayed with the computer generated version.  I's amazing how drama and tension builds, and it reminded of the old days—before my time.

Dutch Reagan's first job in broadcasting was doing play-by-play for the Cubs for an Iowa radio station. In those days all he had to work with were telegraphed pitch by pitch summaries sent by an agent watching the game.  He'd weave that into a commentary that took the listener into the ballpark.  That's what I thought of while this deal was running.  And best, the O's  came from behind to win 4-2.

Go to MLB.com, find the game you want and select the baseball diamond avatar.   Because player stats accompany each at-bat, it's easy to learn who these guys are.  There really is no better game than baseball.

Aging racefully

Have you ever been guilty of looking at others your own age and thinking, surely I can’t look that old.

My name is Gladys Charles, and I was sitting in the waiting room for my first appointment with a new dentist. I noticed his DDS diploma on the wall, which bore his full name. Suddenly, I remembered a tall, handsome, dark-haired boy with the same name had been in my high school class some 30-odd years ago. Could he be the same guy that I had a secret crush on, way back then?   Upon seeing him, however, I quickly discarded any such thought. This balding, gray-haired man with the deeply lined face was way too old to have been my classmate. After he examined my teeth, I asked him if he had attended Morgan Park High School.

“Yes, Yes, I did. I’m a Mustang,” he gleamed with pride.
“When did you graduate?”, I asked.
He answered, “In 1975. Why do you ask?”
“You were in my class!”, I exclaimed.
He looked at me closely. Then, that ugly, old, bald,  wrinkle-faced pompous fool asked, “What did you teach???”

Balls and Strikes
Res Ipsa Loquitor

During a long rain delay, a baseball color commentator decides to kill some time by sharing a little trivia with the play-by-play announcer.

"I'll bet you don't know who hit the most home runs between 1955 and 1975," the color man says.

"Everyone knows that," says the announcer, "Hank Aaron."

"How about who had the most RBI's between 1955 and 1975?"

"Easy," says the announcer, "Hank Aaron again."

"OK, here's a harder one. Know who got hit on the chin with the most balls between 1955 and 1975?"

"I'm not sure on that one, but I'm guessing Hank Aaron."

"Nope," says the color man, "Liberace."

Every weekend I'm mind-pestered by outrageous news that I noted, but never got around to commenting on.  Here's this week's outrages upon which I will not put!

It's a hands down given  that the next Pacific naval war will be fought against China.  So what have the  Obamas done?  That's right; invited the Chi-Coms to participate in a naval exercise  held ostensibly to practice deep-sixing  their fleet.  Can you spel D-U-H? And,  even the LA Times got this right.

America's China mistake
As Beijing becomes more bellicose, Washington clings to the hope that military-to-military relations will somehow relieve tensions. They won't.

Res Ipsa Loquitor  The second thing that sent me to the liquor cabinet was this.

Marines at Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan will lose a key daily meal starting Saturday, causing some to forgo a hot breakfast and others to work six-plus hours without refueling on cooked food, according to Marines at the base and Marine Corps officials.

Are you kidding? What's the first thing that came to your mind?   Was it  THIS? That's right!

Finally, and this was not on my original list,  I noticed that he LAT's editorial cartoonist is Ted Rall.  TED-Freaking-Rall/  Here's some of Rall's work I clipped after 9/11.  Small wonder then that  Times thinks that enforcing the Federal immigation kaws makes you a loose cannon.   Enough said.
