The FCC. GAH!

Feelin' like a disgruntled mailman here boss

Boned Jello

“ The FCC has given Hollywood permission to activate the "Selective Output Control" technologies in your set-top box. These are hidden flags that allow the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America)  to deactivate parts of your home theater depending on what you're watching. And it sucks. As Dan Gillmor notes, "Fans of old TV science fiction will remember the Outer Limits. Given Hollywood's victory today at the FCC -- they'll be able to reach over the lines and disable functions on your TV -- the intro to the show takes on modern relevance."

The FCC says that they're doing this because they believe that if they do so, the MPAA will start releasing first-run movies (the ones that are still in theaters) for TV. They say that Hollywood won't make these movies available unless they get Selectable Output Control because SOC will stop piracy.

This is ridiculous.
”
Continue reading Boing-Boing's  takedown of the MPAA's lickspittle FCC. Here's the MPAA's "no, really, it's just a shower, and the soap is free" statement.

“ “This action is an important victory for consumers who will now have far greater access to see recent high-definition movies in their homes,” Bob Pisano, president and interim chief executive officer of the MPAA, said today in a statement.
”

Data Rape

Can you disappear in surveillance Britain?

David Bond wanted to see if it’s possible to vanish so one day he packed his bag, got into his car and kissed his wife goodbye

Boned Jello

This has upset me more than anything I remember reading recently.  Excerpt:
“ Bond might never have thought of running away if he’d not received a letter, some months earlier, informing him that his daughter was among 25 million Britons whose records had been lost by the Child Benefit Office, along with bank details and other private information.

He “became obsessed”, Katie remembers, about the amount of information on him and his family that was already out there. As he looked into it, he found that the UK, once a bastion of freedom and civil liberties, is now one of the most advanced surveillance societies in the world, ranked third after Russia and China. The average UK adult is now registered on more than 700 databases and is caught many times each day by nearly five million CCTV cameras. Increasingly monitored, citizens are being turned into suspects. Within 100 yards of Bond’s home, he discovered, there were no fewer than 200 cameras.

Before going on the run, he made 80 formal requests to government and commercial organisations for the information they held on him. He piled the replies on his floor, appalled by the level of detail. The owners of the databases knew who his friends were, which websites he’d been looking at, and where he had driven his car. One commercial organisation was even able to inform him that, on a particular day in November 2006, he had “sounded angry”. It was more than he knew himself.  [Full]

He called it data-rape.

Ruh-Roh The markets have figured it out

Thank You Obmamanator

Boned Jello

In late April Anthem Insurance had a 39% rate increase turned down by the California commissariat, and  Obama called for an investigation of the company's officers.  At the time I thought three things, in this order:
  1. You'da thunk California would have learned a lesson about ignoring market forces, from the the Gray Davis era energy crisis.  Remember? The  state suffered from multiple large-scale black-outs, one of the state's largest energy companies collapsed?  Governor Davis was recalled, and replaced by the Trickenator.
  2. This is exactly what Obamunists want.  Insurance companies go bust, gummint has a monopoly.
  3. Thug
I was reminded of this after reading this Doug Ross beauty.

“ Internal AT&T presentation: we'll save $4.1 billion a year if we drop all employee health care benefits
”

Obama is, as we speak, crowing about how we have already begun to reap  the Obamacare reward.  Here's Mr. Ross again.

“ Like the Soviet central planners of a bygone era, today's Democrats are marching us into an abyss of unintended consequences for our entire health care system. They're pushing us, shoving us, against our will, over a cliff of fiscal irresponsibility. They're killing a legacy of prosperity that we could otherwise bequeath to subsequent generations. ”

Here's the deal.  If the opposition party does not gain control of congress in Novemeber, and repeal Obamacare (and just about everything else Obamunists have grabbed), then  XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Here is President Obama's Attorney Gen. Eric Holder offering more details about the capture and interrogation of Faisal Shahzad, the accused Times Square bomber, from the secure confines of the briefing room of Holder's own Justice Department in Washington.

The briefing room's main TV's are tuned to the top-rated cable news channel. Trouble is, that's the dreaded Fox News Channel that Obama aides including David Axelrod so weirdly picked a fight with last fall, castigating it as an alleged broadcast arm of the party of Abraham Lincoln, who never even owned a TV.

The public criticism of Fox no doubt went down well with the Democratic party's left for a few days. But it also backfired, boosting Fox's ratings, causing more people to watch as in: "Don't look over there, folks! That woman has no clothes on." [LA TIMES]

Goldman Sachs Pirates

No Real Surprise

Somali Pirates Say They Are
Subsidiary of Goldman Sachs

Boned Jello

“ NORFOLK, VIRGINIA – (The Borowitz Report) Eleven indicted Somali pirates dropped a bombshell in a U.S. court today, revealing that their entire piracy operation is a subsidiary of banking giant Goldman Sachs.
There was an audible gasp in the courtroom when the leader of the pirates announced, “We are doing God’s work.  We work for Lloyd Blankfein.”
The pirate, who said he earned a bonus of $48 million in dubloons last year, elaborated on the nature of the Somalis’ work for Goldman, explaining that the pirates forcibly attacked ships that Goldman had already shorted.
“We were functioning as investment bankers, only every day was casual Friday,” the pirate said.
The pirate acknowledged that they merged their operations with Goldman in late 2008 to take advantage of the more relaxed regulations governing bankers as opposed to pirates, “plus to get our share of the bailout money.” [Full Story]

Nestle Confirms: No Ads On Glenn Beck’s Show

nestle_logoLast week, advertisements for Nestle Purina Cat Chow began running on Glenn Beck’s show.  We were surprised that Nestle would be willing to associate any of its brands with Glenn Beck’s irresponsible vitriol.

As usual, StopBeck participants reached out to Nestle for clarification and urged them to cease advertising on Glenn Beck’s show. The efforts paid off! Nestle confirmed that they do not advertise on Glenn Beck’s show; they advised that the ads were run in error and that the mistake has been corrected. Going forward don’t expect to see Nestle ads on Glenn Beck’s show.

Nestle becomes another addition to the growing list of companies that refuse to support Glenn Beck’s vitriol with advertising dollars.

Here are the statements Nestle posted on their Twitter page:

”
Angelo Carusone is a New Yorker and currently a third-year law student living in Madison, Wisconsin. IOW, he's steeped in leftist ideology. He started his "Stop Beck" campaign last July because of "his concern that the Fox News talk show host and former morning zoo disc jockey "validates the opinions of those who might incite violence."  We assume Angelo meant violence to his leftist ideology, since there seems to be no other example to cite.

In the past we've reported on similar decisions by Sargento Cheese, and UPS.  In the latter case, UPS backed off after getting earfuls from people who work for a living and, ergo, natural UPS customers.  I've included here a list of Nestle products.  Peruse it, associate those you're in the habit of buying with Obamunism, and consider alternative products next time you shop. I stopped buying Sargento cheese products, and can report that I've not suffered a bit.

As always, keep the "fuck-yous" to a minimum, and convey your hostility to their support of this un-American effort like the ladies and gentlemen we are.

Dog Fight,or in this case, Bird

Boned Jello

I just now got some coffee, and looked out the window to catch some hummingbird activity.  Instead, I was treated to an amazing dog fight between a lady Cardinal, and a Blue Jay.  The Cardinal was on the Jay's six, and it looked for all the world like one of those delightful Hitler channel aerial combat recreations. Blue Jays of course are predators who like eating others fetuses, aka eggs.  I'm guessing that's what this was about.  The larger Jay was maneuvering for its life against that angry mama.

Praising Arizona

Boned Jello

In "Praising Arizona," Heather Mac Donald writes, "The state’s new immigration law is perfectly reasonable, but you wouldn’t know it from the New York Times."  Here's what democrats are using, in their attempt to get out the November vote (US citizen, or not) and stave off annihilation, actually says.
“ The law, SB 1070, empowers local police officers to check the immigration status of individuals whom they have encountered during a “lawful contact,” if an officer reasonably suspects the person stopped of being in the country illegally, and if an inquiry into the person’s status is “practicable.” The officer may not base his suspicion of illegality “solely [on] race, color or national origin.” (Arizona lawmakers recently amended the law to change the term “lawful contact” to “lawful stop, detention or arrest” and deleted the word “solely” from the phrase regarding race, color, and national origin. The governor is expected to sign the amendments.) The law also requires aliens to carry their immigration documents, mirroring an identical federal requirement. Failure to comply with the federal law on carrying immigration papers becomes a state misdemeanor under the Arizona law.

Three term Utah Sen. Bob Bennet is seen unlikely to make it out of of the Utah Republican nomination process!  Despite a lifetime American Conservative Union rating of 88 percent,  and an endorsement from the NRA, Bennet is being called a "moderate"  for his vote in favor of the bank bailout, and  his proposed health care plan, presented as an alternative to Obamacare, has come under fire for its requirement that all Americans buy health insurance.   The Republican Party establishment has responded with the likes of Newt Gingrich trying to save Bennet; the more reliable Club for Growth is bankrolling anti-Bennet television ads. And that, boys and girls, is the way it should be.  You don't deal with the devil by trying to moderate his terms; you oppose every word, jot, and tittle out of principle.  There is no right way to do the wrong thing.  USA UAS USA.  [Story]

Aside:  The WaTimes is being sold by the Moon family, which has already cut financial support to the bone.  My fervent hope is that Rupert will buy it, but that seems unlikely. Losing the WaTimes would be a serious loss, and bolster the Democrat Media Complex.

Comedy Central developing Jesus Christ cartoon

When asked whether publication of his home address would factor in, Alterman responded "Whoa,  mother-fucker!"

“

Comedy Central developing Jesus Christ cartoon

Comedy Central might censor every image of the Prophet Muhammad on "South Park," yet the network is developing a whole animated series around Jesus Christ.

Jesus-south-park As part of the network's upfront presentation to advertisers (full slate here), the network is set to announce "JC," a half-hour show about Christ wanting to escape the shadow of his "powerful but apathetic father" and live a regular life in New York City.

In the show, God is preoccupied with playing video games while Christ, "the ultimate fish out of water," tries to adjust to life in the big city.

"In general, comedy in purist form always makes some people uncomfortable," said Comedy Central's head of original programming Kent Alterman

When asked if the show might draw some fire, especially coming on the heels of the network's decision to censor the Muslim faith's religious figure on "South Park," Alterman said its too early in the show's development to be concerned about such matters.

”
I know how these phuckers think. "South Park gets away with a Jesus Christ parody, so people must love that kind of shit."  Wrong asshat.  South Park gets away with it because they parody everybody.  The creators do not like organized religion, period.  They get away with it, because after all the disrespect, there is often a worthwhile message. They get away with it, because the Jesus character is not central to the cartoon.  That Comedy Central would dare contemplate such a thing, in the face of their refusal to even allow the name Muhummad to be uttered, shows their hypocrisy. Trey Parker has the answer. " They just don't want to be killed." Good thing they're dealing with conservatives and Christian Americans in this matter.

Crist Akbar!
Muslims do actually have principles.  Does Crist?

Boned Jello

Early on, before the name Rubio ever crossed my computer screen, I was touting Florida's Gov. Crist's bid for the senate.  Why?  He was a Republican governor of a mostly righteous Republican state, and the Senate seat belonged to the enemy.  In a heartbeat, comments flooded in from Florida, citing among other things Crist's scamulus money grab.  The message was, "Crist is a RINO."  The world knows now that they understated.

Crist is Jim Jeffords and Arlo Sphincter with a southern accent.  A piece of political corn encrusted poop. I think more proof is on the way.  It's my belief that last year's Gov. Crist would have signed the state's new abortion law in a heartbeat.  But we're talking about a guy who went running to Rahm Emanuel after Floridians made it clear they hated his guts.  But still, he does have principles, doesn't he?  What did I just say? Jeffords, Sphincter and Rahm.  Of course he doesn't.  He'll veto.

“ THE TECATE TRUCK was just like all the other Tecate Beer trucks that went back and forth daily at the border crossing, except that it was not owned by Tecate. The driver of that truck spoke fluent Spanish and the truck was always loaded with Tecate. In time the US border guards got used to it. The difference was that this truck had, at its center, a narrow, hollow space shielded with thin sheets of lead so that no ambient radiation would escape.

It had cost The Base over $150,000 to convert the truck at a garage in Ensenada a year before. That was little enough when it came to securing the device which had cost the same group more than $10 million in Russia in 1997. In any event, the truck did its job and passed without incident over the border and into the United States at Tecate, California on August 6th. Dates were important to The Base, and this date was especially significant. After all, what could be more significant than the day on which Hiroshima was destroyed?

After clearing the border the Tecate Truck followed Highway 94 north to it's merge with Highway 8 at La Mesa, California, and then drove west towards Highway 5. It pulled off the road at a rest stop where it picked up a technician in a Tecate uniform who was carrying a case with the necessary electronics and a couple of weapons. After that, the two men followed the road thought the heart of San Diego. It got off the freeway in downtown and quickly made its way to the intersection of North Harbor Drive and West Broadway. It's total travel time from the border to downtown San Diego was just over an hour. It was running close to schedule. It was about 11:30 in the morning.

The truck pulled over and parked along North Harbor drive and the technician took out some binoculars and scanned the harbor beyond the Navy Region Southwest Complex whose entrance was less than 100 yards away. Intelligence was correct. The USS Ronald Reagan was in its home port and riding comfortably at anchor.

The technician opened his case and took a wire that ran from the back of the truck along the floorboards. He plugged it into a jack in the simple switching device in the case. He looked at the driver and smiled. The driver smiled back. They both began to recite a prayer in Arabic while looking over the San Diego harbor. At some point in the prayer, without really thinking about it, the technician threw the switch. In the next instant, at the intersection of North Harbor Drive and West Broadway in San Diego, California on a warm August morning, a miniature version of the Sun appeared on the surface of the Earth. Jack Spratt Could Cut No Fat
So Geezers will go lean?

Boned Jello

“ John Spratt, Chairman of the House Budget Committee, was recently appointed by President Obama to the Debt Commission. I’ve been going through documents looking at his history regarding Social Security reform, and his involvement in “secret meetings” in 1997 authorized by Clinton Chief of Staff Erskine Bowles.  Bowles was at the time negotiating a deal between Clinton and Newt Gingrich that included  partial privatization of Social Security.

Last week at the Pete Peterson confab,  Bill Clinton spoke openly about the secret agreement  he reached in 1997 with Newt Gingrich to take money out of Social Security and place it in private accounts — something Wall Street has been demanding in order to keep the bubble from bursting.  The deal was the subject of the 2008 Steven Gillon book The Pact: Bill Clinton, Newt Gingrich, and the Rivalry That Defined a Generation.

According to Gillon, Clinton agreed to take the political heat for privatization, and the plan only fell through when the Monica Lewinsky affair exploded and Clinton was afraid to take the hit in the polls.

”
This deal got very close to happening during uber private meetings.    Because all were assured that what was said in the room stayed in the room, they could put anything on the table, and know that any agreement would have Clinton's support.  Spratt subsequently fought against George Bush’s privatization efforts, and now ...
