I'm not making that up.

Boned Jello

This is a sidekick post to the one below [Kafkaesque Torture].  What makes all this so maddening is that we saw all this coming in it's relative infancy!  And didn't realize we should have been hanging people from the get-go. Stab me in the freaking liver, why don't you?  Oh, sorry.

The New York Times yesterday used Justice Clarence Thomas to personify today's politically polarized courts.

“ Justice Clarence Thomas  apparently has one additional requirement. Without exception, the 84 clerks he has chosen over his two decades on the court all first trained with an appeals court judge appointed by a Republican president.

That unbroken ideological commitment is just the most extreme example of a recent and seldom examined form of political polarization on the Supreme Court.
”

First off, as the article admits, "none of the justices routinely write first drafts of their opinions. Instead, they typically supervise and revise drafts produced by their clerks. "  Why then would Justice Thomas, who believes in judicial restraint and three equal branches of  government, want someone who clerked for a judge like, say, Clinton appointee U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips?  And raise your hand if you can't predict how the four left-wing justices will vote on any social issue. That's what I thought.  And how did the courts get this polarized?  Robert Bork is square one in this adventure. Read about it.

Liberals have used, and are still using leftist judges as supernumerary legislators, a.k.a. activist judges, to dictate into law that which cannot be passed legislatively. Because the people hate it. Instead of black robes, today's federal judges ought wear a uniform that identifies which faction they support, American , or  Democrat . It would save thousands of hours that we now spend Googling to find who to blame for the most recent judicial outrage,  Carter, Clinton, or (fasten seat-belts) Obama?

The hanging judge? Or hang the judge?

Kafkaesque torture -
today's 'justice' system

“ "It is ... not our job to sit in judgment of whether state and local frustration about federal immigration policy is warranted. We are, however, required to intervene when states and localities directly undermine the federal objectives embodied in statutes enacted by Congress," wrote Chief Judge Theodore McKee. - In dismissing the Hazelton PA law that enforced  federal immigration law.

1:30 I begin the walk to the Alamodome, somehow managing to stuff the "Traveler" and 11 cans of  beer into my pants.

1:47 I am in line surrounded by Nebraska fans. They are taunting me. I am taunting back, still certain that we are going to kick the shit out of Nebraska. I decide to challenge a particularly vocal Nebraska fan to play what I now call and will forever be remembered as "Cell-Phone Flop Out." Remember flop out for a dollar? The rules are similar. I tell this Nebraska jackass that if he's so confident in his team, he should "flop out" his cell phone RIGHT NOW and make plane reservations to Phoenix for the Fiesta Bowl. And then I spoke these memorable words: "And not those damn refundable tickets, either! You request those non-refundable, non-transferrable sons-of-bitches!" He backs down. He is unworthy. I call Southwest Airlines and buy two tickets to Phoenix, non-refundable and non-transferrable. Price: $712. He is humbled. He lowers his head in shame. I raise my cell phone in triumph to the cheers of hundreds of Texas fans. I am KING and these are my subjects. I distribute the 11 beers in my pants to the cheering masses. I RULE the pre-game kingdom.

Rightnetwork Launches

A Science Experiment

Question: What do you get when you cross Kelsey Grammer, jungle animals, politics and a smooth jazz soundtrack?

Answer: A ridiculous video promoting the launch of Rightnetwork.
TV HUNTER
”

Launched yesterday, it's way early to be predicting how successful Rightnetwork will be.  However, I've found a reliable bellwether in these matters is to look at the asshat left response as a gauge to the perceived threat.   Example: Sarah Palin.  Her surprise selection as McCain's running mate two years ago ='d  mass left-tard hysteria. Within days McCain took his first lead in some polls, and the entire television news and entertainment universe was devoted to trashing her.  "Unqualified hick hack" ; "no experience" ; "poor speaker without a teleprompter"; "no birth certificate ," blah, blah, blah.  Between SNL skits however, the left found it necessary to trigger "ruin the economies of every nation on Earth," a.k.a.  Plan B From Outer Space in order to save Obama's ass.    It is then a scientific certainty that threat level is directly proportional to the level of smug, condescending, and ad hominem insults forthcoming. Segue TV HUNTER
“

"Today, we step forward get the party started … because that's how we roll, like a powerful elephant and a nimble gazelle combo -- a gazelephant. We step forward like a gazelephant," Grammer said.

The whole "gazelephant" thing makes it hard to take Rightnetwork seriously as a substantive entrant into the political discourse. Also, a man of Grammer's age should not use the phrase "that's how we roll." Ever.

Rightnetwork's TV offerings include "Running," a series that profiles first-time political candidates, and "Moving Numbers," a sitcom about a political campaign. Representative examples of Rightnetwork's online content include a blog post titled [OMFG!] "Thank God for Market Capitalism" and an essay encouraging readers to take pride in the superiority of American culture [you bastids!].

However, based on Grammer's embarrassing, awkward launch presentation, I doubt any of Rightnetwork's competitors are shaking in their boots.
”
Finally, Hunter Walker's most precious comment. "If Rightnetwork manages to succeed, it's the execs at conservative cable network Fox News who would be feeling the pain."  OMG, I forgot all about the quota.

“ According to Mr. Griggs, some prospective crew members on his new documentary, “I Want Your Money,” which takes aim at President Obama’s economic policies, said they would accept jobs on the condition that their names be left off the credits. Mr. Griggs suspects that a politically motivated makeup artist even tried to sabotage the movie by giving him a distinctly unflattering look.

I posted this trailer a few weeks ago, and now *gasp* The New York Times, which still refuses to review conservative's books, is talking if up.   "... its charm, if that word can apply to political documentary, comes from computer-generated animations in which bobbing-headed political figures, designed by Tom Richmond of Mad Magazine, try to school one another on the ins and outs of policy.  A good read.

 Jim Geraghty's O'Donnell Problem
I read  Jim Geraghty's column [The Campaign Spot] on NRO, and have noticed his one man effort to boost Mike Castle's (R DE) campaign.  But Rodge, what's wrong with that?  At first blush, nothing. It's how he's doing it, and who he's attacking in the process. Not Democrat Chris Coons, but Tea Party challenger Christine O’Donnell.  Here's a few recent examples:
Boned Jello
But it's his most recent [Just What Is Mike Castle’s Voting Record?] that crystallized things for me Lucy.  Here's Geraghty's reasons for pushing Castle.
“   The options for Delaware Republicans on September 14 are nominating Christine O’Donnell or Mike Castle to be their Senate nominee.

O’Donnell, if nominated, will have (cough) an uphill climb in a state where registered Democrats outnumber registered Republicans roughly 329,000 to 179,000.

Castle has consistently been corrupt led all polls and his voting history suggests he will vote with conservatives 52 percent of the time or so. If Democrat Chris Coons is elected and votes in a pattern similar to Delaware’s other senator, he will vote the conservative position 12 percent of the time; if he emulates current Democratic senator Ted Kaufman, he will vote the conservative position 4 percent of the time.

Over his 17 complete years in the U.S. House of Representatives, Castle has voted the conservative position, as defined by the American Conservative Union, about 52 percent of the time. In 2009, ACU scored Castle at 56. So how did he get that rating from the group last year?
”
Oh goody. Votes with conservatives 52 percent of the time, or so.  We're in Lincoln Chafee-Olympia Snowe- Susan Collins territory here. While we desperately try to drive the Nazi's out of Paris, Geraghty's (and others like him) solution is to replace them with a Vichy gummint.  Geraghty has not the faintest clue about what's driving the anger in this country.  None.  Christine O’Donnell for Senate.

The Wall Street Journal in an editorial today [The Delaware Senate primary is a test of political pragmatism]  rides with Geraghty.  O’Donnell has lost twice before? BFD; then is not now. Besides, I'm quits with political pragmatism; this is war, baby!

Toy Gun Licensing

Unlicensed toy gun

Australia to License Toy Guns

ANY ITEM that looks like a gun will have to be licensed under several changes to the Weapons Act being considered by the Queensland State Government.

Even guns made out of materials as unlikely as soap or plastic may have to be kept under lock and key if they could "reasonably be taken to be a weapon".

"If it looks like a gun and feels like a gun, it will have to be licensed," said a government source.

"We just want to know where they are."

”
Reporter Robyn Ironside then adds, "It is unclear how the draft affects toy guns." ?!?

I'm guessing that Queensland is Australia's Maryland.  Anyone?  If this isn't farcical enough for you so far, try this.
“ Failure to license an imitation weapon will carry a maximum $4500 fine under the proposals and incorrect storage carries a penalty of $750.

Time to bomb the bombers

James Lee is Al Gore is Prince
Charles is the Unabomber

Damn!  I meant to copyright that thought.

What’s really depressing is that the philosophy expressed in James Lee’s (and the Unabomber’s) manifesto – which is also, incidentally, the philosophy expressed in Al Gore’s The Earth In Balance – is also the philosophy that is taught every day to our children in their schools: the world is fragile; human beings are a blot on the landscape; through our greed and selfishness we make everything worse; really it would be better if we vanished altogether and let all the lovely pure noble animals take over. [So much more; so very right]
”

Boned Jello

Largely ignored at the time was that amongst the crap collected from the Unabomber's squalid hut was one (1) copy of Al Gore's book, Earth In The Balance.  Quizzes like Ken Crossman's "Did Al Gore say it? Or was it the Unabomber?" were all the rage amongst free thinkers.  Al Gore and Unabum are unquestionably insane; Prince Charles never won the Nobel Peace Prize, and thus lacks the gravitas of a serious advocate.  Lee of course is dead, but every person who donates to the Sierra Club, or Greenpeace, or the Democrat Party was, and is a more serious threat to national freedom.  Carry on.  ASME and Amazon.com Announce the Finalists of the 2010 Best Magazine Cover Contest

Ran into this yesterday, and of course my eye went immediately to NOPE and HATE.  First time I'd seen that New York Magazine (September 28, 2009) cover.  Sleuthing yielded the article, written by Philip Weiss, and that sent me off on this  tangent.  Weiss, it seems, owns the rights to Hate and Crazies stories (not a bad thing).

In 1997 Weiss, a contributing New York Times editor, was sent to Arkansas to do a story for the New York Times Magazine.  His mission: find the crazies causing Bill Clinton all this trouble, then expose and discredit them.  That resulted in The Clinton Haters - Clinton Crazy.

An odd thing happened however.

Weiss did find a bunch of them; like Larry Nichols, Hugh Sprunt, and Pat Matrisciana, "a film maker, who had  developed a monstrous view of Clinton as Satan's nephew."  He ate with them; drank with them; and reported what they said.  What he did not do is paint them as nut jobs who made stuff up.  In fact, Weiss later confessed that the crazies made a better case than did the Clinton apologists,  The New York Times was not happy, and as far as I know that was the end of his association with the Gray Lady. I've had a healthy respect for Weiss ever since, and would read his recent "Crazies"  article, except I hate Obama  too much. Love the cover though, and wonder why it's in the "Most Controversial" category, and not "Best Vampire?"

People the Left HATE; aka Americans

Here’s True Top 30 Conservatives the
Left HATES (And 5 They LOVE)

David "what's-in-a-name" Swindle posted this interesting deal on the David Horowitz blog. He thinks the Town Hall list of 100 Americans the Left Hates Most is too "now centric," with too much focus on people like Arizona Governor Jan Brewer.  Swindle's TOP 30 makes a distinction between "important conservatives who the Left might dislike," and those the left actually hates at a visceral level  His "True Top Thirty" list removes Glenn Beck as the #1 most hated, and replaces him with Dick Cheney.  I particularly like his reasoning on this one.  Here's a few of the TOP 30 Greatest Americans.

Town Hall 100 Conservatives Anti-Americans hate
“

24. Charles Krauthammer

Krauthammer remains perhaps the most essential conservative columnist in the country. He has the ability to completely reframe and recharge debates in ways that drive the Left insane. His pointing out that the BP Oil Spill was actually the Left’s fault is only the most recent example. I don’t know why Fox News doesn’t just give him his own show already.

16. Senator Jim Inhofe

To merely express doubt about man causing global warming is an unspeakable heresy. To those schooled in The Church of Al Gore, that humanity expelling CO2 into the atmosphere will kill us all is as settled as germ theory.

So to challenge it head on is unpardonable. Such a person is an enemy of the planet itself.

Is there anyone more prominent and more aggressive challenging the Left on this subject than Inhofe? I don’t think so.

14. Roger Ailes

Fox News has done critical damage to the Progressive Psyche. Before the blogosphere emerged as a crucial component in the media war, Fox News broke the leftist monopoly on television. The conservative viewpoint could no longer be marginalized; the “consensus reality” was shattered. And Roger Ailes is the one to blame for it.

9. Ambassador John Bolton

Just as Inhofe savages the Left’s deeply held religious belief of  manmade global warming, Bolton is the principal antagonist of another of the movement’s dearest illusions: the sanctity of the United Nations. It’s one of the central fantasies of the Left that all nations can unite in a governing body and solve their problems without violence. Bolton dares to reveal the truth of why this doesn’t work at all.

Is there anyone more prominent and more aggressive challenging the Left on this subject than Bolton? I don’t think so.

5. Sarah Palin

The reasons why the Left hates Sarah Palin have been laid out frequently by plenty of writers, including many at NRB. The answers are numerous and fairly obvious so I won’t rehash them here. What I will say though is that the trend we’ve been seeing with Palin recently has been very encouraging. While she may have been green during her vice presidential run she’s learning from many of the other people on this list very quickly. In the past I’ve been skeptical of the possibility of a President Palin but if she continues in this fashion then that might change.

Here's Swindle's 5 They LOVE

5. Alan Keyes
4. Michael Steele
3. George Will
2. Pat Buchanan
1. Ron Paul

I'll go with him, but disagree on two points.  Alan Keyes is dinged for (among other things) being a "birther." People taking the "anti" position here, without revealing what evidence they have, anything at all, that contradicts the "birther" position, have zero cred with me. And, I do not think Pat Buchanan is an anti-Semite. And shame on neo-com Semites for branding him as one.
