Obama is no Chamberlain (and not in a good way)

The Stu Tarlowe and Skoonj machine offer this: We've been awash of late in seemingly irresistible comparisons between Barack Obama and appeasement's poster boy, Neville Chamberlain, the man who in 1938 sold out Czechoslovakia to Hitler in order to preserve "peace in our time".   Here's a piece in today's American Thinker by Jeff Lipkes, which says, "Let's retire Neville Chamberlain's umbrella."    Lipkes is by no means the first to suggest that the Chamberlain/Obama comparisons are flawed (I've been among those pointing out the distinction between naiveté and evil intent). Nor is he the first to compare Obama to Andreas Lubitz, the suicide pilot/mass murderer of Germanwings Flight 9525 (see The Big Cheese, Friday, March 27, 2015).  Read the entire AT piece. But the first part of it is mere set-up, a bit of a history lesson. Here is the "money quote":   But let’s remember that Hitler never chanted “Death to Britain.”  Hitler had not organized terrorist attacks on British forces, nor were his proxies killing civilians across the world.  He did not proclaim that the annihilation of a British ally was “non-negotiable.”   And he was not a militant believer in a political religion whose followers had twice invaded and ravaged Europe, a religion whose followers today profess their disdain for Western values and Western culture. There are none among you who can say you ever heard about Godwin's Law until Obama came along. And when you did it had been modified to read “If you mention Adolf Hitler or Nazis within a discussion thread, you’ve automatically lost the argument” That's because comparisons to the Obama administration and the Third Reich are so abundantly similar that they ought scare the hell out of even his Liberal backers, and certainly Hollywood JINO.  Obamunists had that meme in their holster from day one for a reason. Even there, however, Lenin/Stalinist was probably the better comparison, but the media have since the 1920s ignored Communism, so Hitler has the better monster recognition.  Plus, Chamberlain wasn't born and educated in Berlin,  and he was a Christian.  Okay, like Obama he did also hold British  citizenship.

THE TIME BOMB Jenny was flat clobbered. Gary was cheating on her. How had she missed it?  Even as their sex had been flat lining, her condom purchases for Gary (he would never use them is she didn't) had, if anything, been increasing.  She was acutely aware of that fact because of the embarrassment she still felt at the Safeway checkout when the Trojan Bareskins were scanned.  Her first instinct was to confront him and send him packing, but that would only serve to facilitate his plan to break off their relationship; he was such a coward about relationships.  No, she wanted him to hurt.  And she wanted that bitch he was screwing, Brenda, to suffer like she was suffering.  As it happened, it was to be so easy.  DNA. She got the idea while following the O.J. Simpson trial.  An article in Time speculated that DNA databases were being established by law enforcement, and one day everybody's would, like fingerprints, be computerized, indexed, and available.  She stayed with Gary for another few weeks, silent, and even enjoying their occasional "pokes," as Gary called them.  Afterwards she secreted the condom away in the freezer.  Jenny found a degree of satisfaction, even humor in his concocted excuses for getting home late, or for his sudden out of town sales seminars (semen-ars, she thought).   There were 5 condoms left in the 12 pack.  When they were used, she left him.  Jen wept when she told Gary she was breaking up with him; a nice touch that, and not without her feeling some genuine emotion.  She told him she knew he wasn't gong to marry her anytime soon, adding that "her clock was ticking."  Gary was shocked of course, but did nothing really to dissuade her.  Was there someone else, he had  asked?  She assured him there was not. He seemed relieved, probably because he hadn't been cuckolded. So now she drank her coffee and scanned the newspaper, actually surprised that the time had crept up on her.  Wow, it doesn't seem like 20 years she thought, a scant smile forming on her lips. I'm seeing way too many crime stories.  This just popped into my head during Black List last night,  which by the way is the new best television series ever!

Easter Cinema AUDIO BOOK Yesterday I watched Mel Gibson's The  Passion of the Christ on my iPad; the first time since seeing it at the cinema in 2004 (even though we've owned the DVD).  It is unparalleled film making, IMO.  Because of it, Gibson was targeted by Hollywood for neutering.  Upstairs, I learned, MoSup had been watching the movie version of Bill O'Reilly's book "Killing Jesus."  I Googled it up on the iPad, but of course Apple does not accept Flash, or whatever the hell format the civilized world use, but I found something better on YouTube.  The full 6 hour+ Audio Book read by O'Reilly.  Just finished the first two chapters, and what a treat.  In that time the book has covered an introductory birth of Jesus replete with a short political history of the area and then into a broader—and captivating—history of Caesar's Rome itself.  What an unexpected treat.  I've paused now (at 1:09), after the account of Casca shoving his shiv into Caesar's sack left me ... queasy. ASIDE: I can appreciate that Jews were fearful that The  Passion of the Christ might have the power to rekindle old hatreds.  It did not.  But the Sanhedrin, led by high priest Caiaphas, which demanded his crucification was the earlier equivalent of General  Pétain's lackey Vichy government under the Nazis.  Rome controlled the Temple, and who ran it.  Hell, they erected a statue of Caesar inside of the Temple!   Many  learned and pious Jews of the time reacted to this  abomination by forming splinter groups having nothing to do with that ilk.  Of course Jesus, his apostles, and most early converts were Jews.  As a Roman Catholic I have come to view the church as a Jewish sect, and myself a member.  For me, this is riveting history.

Lenten Promise Make-up

It's Good Friday and I'm faced with my failure to live up to a single Lenten promise.  That is nothing to make fun of, and I'm not. As partial retribution I will today, and maybe even forever, abstain from saying anything hateful about anyone. Four cinema à la carte things

Boon and Limehouse 1) I just watched the penultimate episode of Justified, dammit.  What I like most about this series? It's conglomerated by and with the greatest collection of rat bastard villains ever.  No matter what happens next week, I know for sure that Raylin will  kill that little prick Boon, one of the few of them still alive; I very much look forward to it. We hope that Elstin Limehouse also meets his maker, but don't think that will happen.  2) In the meanwhile Mother Superior and me have settled on BLACK LIST for dinnertime watching. I've seen this around, but thinking it was another Hollywood paean to the Hollywood 10—which treason Liberals are still trying to excuse—I long  ignored it.  It's not.  What NBC did was take  Silence of the Lambs (with James Spader playing a Hannibal Lecter ("Reddington") against Megan Boone's Clarice ("Elizabeth Keen") and mix it with  White Collar.  Spader's character is a combination of  "Neal Caffrey" and "Mozzie."  I'll give Blacklist 4 stars for entertainment value and 3 stars for general fitness. Spader is good. You could do worse. 3) We have one episode left of the previously mentioned "The Affair." Who knew that this was a 10 part series, and this is just season one?  We didn't.  Teriffic acting; Ruth Wilson is a major talent; her breakdown in episode 9 is 10 stars.  But there is a problem.  Because the script and acting are so good, we are drawn into it, and it's frankly exhausting because I cannot think of a single moment of levity so far.  Consequently, I want to take an anti-depressent after each viewing.  Oh, did I say that all we have seen is only a backdrop to a murder investigation, and that until episode 9 we don't even know who was killed?  Sheesh. 4) Finally, there's Gran Hotel.  Since it's a Spanish production, and MoSup won't watch subtitled movies (because she can't do her puzzles simultaneously), I've watched this one alone.  Gran Hotel (not to be confused with HOTEL, which I've not watched) is a period piece; a poor man's Downton Abby that lacks the production values and characters depth. For me it's "easy listening."  The plot has Spain's Matt Dillon look-alike wrangling a servant's position in the hotel to find out what happened to his missing sister - well, here. I give Gran Hotel 3 stars;  but secretly I give it 4.5 stars for keeping me interested without pissing me off about something.  Yes, I have developed a crush on Alicia Alarcon

My wife and I went into town and visited a shop. When we came out, there was a cop writing out a parking ticket.. We went up to him and I said, "come on man, how about giving a senior citizen a break?" He ignored us and continued writing the ticket. I called him a bad Name. He glared at me and started writing another ticket for having worn-out tires. So Shirley (my wife) called him a "Dumbbell" He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he started writing more tickets. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more we abused him, the more tickets he wrote. He finally finished, sneered at us and walked away. Just then our bus arrived, and we got on it and went home. We always look for cars with Obama 2012 stickers. We try to have a little fun each day now that we're retired. The attacks vary anywhere between snide remarks, insistence Jesus didn’t exist, insistence He was a closeted homosexual, claims He knocked up Mary Magdalene, and on and on and on. The implication is clear, if you believe your precious sky fairy had a son and he is your god, then you are clearly not to be taken seriously. You belong to on oppressive cult that wants to hang gays and enslave minority. Also, SCIENCE. BOOM!! But then, a group of people yelling Allahu Akbar murder someone and the script changes tone and direction to absolutely no one’s surprise. * I honestly don’t know if Newsweek is operating at a level at which it would actually require anything more than a P.O. Box to receive the invoice bills for putting the rag to print. That said, I didn’t check the Souther Poverty Law Center for their address. I mean, I am sure they are listed as a hate group, right? The Prophet, who once bested not only a lion but the 40 midget wrestlers who were fighting it – all while teaching subhuman white people algebra, mind you – must not be associated with such extremism done in his name. After all, not only did he create the idea of Democracy itself, he founded to only true religion on peace. At least that seems to be how this shtick goes. Easter and Christmas, two of the holiest days in Christianity, are a great time to slander all of Christianity and openly mock the core of our beliefs, but it would be an act of unforgivable cultural insensitivity to note that the guys who just massacred a bunch of cartoon artists did so in the name of The Prophet Muḥammad. In response to this offense to God, Christ, Christianity as a whole, and myself, I have decided not to shoot up people like Jim Clancy of CNN who attempted to blame the Jooooooooooos!! for the attack on Charlie Hebdo. No, I haven’t activated the forces of Christendom to lay siege upon the offices of Newsweek for claiming that Jesus is a myth.* Heck, I haven’t even bothered to yell loudly while shaking my fist at the sky. Nope, instead, like your average extremist cult member, I drew a picture that properly explains the complicated details of the media’s selective bigotry and the absolute absurdity of the same. Honestly, it is simply enough that even your average liberal is capable of agreeing with it. Well, after they are done being outraged by it. How I missed another Pulitzer

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED TO HARRY REID? How I missed another Pulitzer This is kind of a bummer, but it's my own fault for sitting on it.  Going back to 2006, when it became apparent that Reid was awash in Abramoff Indian Casino money, I really expected that, at best, it spelled the end of Harry's political career.  I mean, the LA Times had already done a series about the Reid 'Crime Family," right?  And later the Times did "A Deal in the Desert for Reid.;" and a whole bunch more.  Who knew that the new rule, "Democrat Crime Is Never Punished" had gone into effect?  So, when after the last election he'd lost control of the Senate, and someone beat the crap out of him  was badly hurt while "performing an exercise on a large rubber band, but when it snapped, it spun him around and sent him flying into his cabinets;" heads bobbed. Nobody, save possibly Snopes, believed that.  Right? All that was percolating; I had this whole "Good Fellas" mini-series post in my head, about how the Indian casino lobby, pissed off that Reid had not delivered on promises they'd paid millions for, asked for their money back and Reid give them the "finger," like he does to everyone who annoys him, so they put a contract on him.  That was my premise.  So today, with time on my hands, I decided to do it.  And guess what?  The very first thing I see in my initial Google background search was this, from Powerline.  From freaking January! "WHAT REALLY HAPPENED TO HARRY REID?" Crap.  Looks like that prick will get away with it, and I lost another Pulitzer.
