China's 'Wall' Model

CASE And POINT

Perky Katie is still a fraudist

Couric joins a legion of anti-2nd's whose works have been based on fraudulent data, if not outright lies. John Lott's seminal 1998 (updated several times) "More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun Control Laws (Studies in Law and Economics)" drives gun controllers crazy.  No "anti" rebuttals, most famously "Arming America: The Origins of a National Gun Culture," by Michael A. Bellesiles, have withstood rigorous review of suppoting data.  Related:  Anthropogenic Global Warming and other Liars

‘Star Trek’ actor eviscerated after equating NRA with UCLA shooting

Shortly after reports of a shooting — later identified as a likely murder-suicide — resulted in a campus lock down at the University of California at Los Angeles, one actor opted to post a pithy indictment of the National Rifle Association to his Twitter page.
“F— the NRA,” Wil Wheaton, known for his roles in “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and “The Big Bang Theory,” wrote on Wednesday.
While his profane comment earned some praise from his anti-gun fans and followers, outraged Second Amendment supporters almost immediately peppered his feed with opposing thoughts and invective.
“California has almost every gun law liberals ask for,” one critic wrote.
“So when there is a shooting, who do liberals blame? The NRA, of course

The Press Conference We've Waited For

RUSH: Now, back to this Trump press conference, if you didn't see it, if you didn't hear it, we're working on audio sound bites now. We're an editor short today so we'll get them up as quickly as we can.  We only got one guy editing.  When we have two guys editing it would only take half the time it's gonna take now.

But the New York Times headline: "Television Networks Struggle to Provide Equal Airtime in the Era of Trump." Oh, yes. Five pages this baby prints out. And the New York Times has another story: "Hillary Clinton Struggles to Find Footing in Unusual Race." This is also related. They've got two stories here on how the Times is actually apologizing to its readers for being unable to balance coverage in favor of Hillary.
But, anyway, the piece de resistance -- you thought I lost my place, but I didn't, because I never do.  Near the end of it a frustrated journalist (paraphrasing), "Mr. Trump, Mr. Trump, Mr. Trump, is it gonna be this way, are you gonna be attacking us after you become president?"

"Yes, it is.  Because you are the most dishonest people, political press the most dishonest people I know. You know it and I know it.  The press is dishonest, but the political press is especially dishonest."

And then Jim Acosta, I think it was, CNN (paraphrasing), "Mr. Trump, Mr. Trump, do you object to scrutiny?  You seem like you didn't even like scrutiny, but you're seeking the office of president of the United States, how do you think --"

"I don't mind scrutiny.  What I don't like is lies.  You can scrutinize me all day long but you set up false premises. You state things about me that are not true. Then you run stories on that. That's why I'm out here trying to correct the record ...  By the way, I've seen you, you're among the worst. You're at ABC, right?  You're the worst. You're a sleaze."

And I'm thinking the people at home watching this -- (laughing) 'cause, folks, in the age of internet trolling, manners are out the window.  It's a waste of time asking for manners here.  Because, remember, in a war the aggressor sets the rules and I'm guaranteeing you that Trump thinks the media are the aggressors here.

In a followup next day segment Rush asks: Why Am I the Only One Who Said This About Trump's Press Conference?

Apparently, virtually everybody in the cable news universe that cable news networks go to for analysts and analysis and so forth, thought that Trump stepped in it big time yesterday. [...]

Okay.  Let's start with Fox News this morning on the program they call America's Newsroom.  Martha MacCallum was speaking with Karl Rove.  Now, keep in mind that Rove and the Bush White House never responded to the Democrats when political allegations or slime or defamation occurred -- and it was constant.  The Democrats -- amplified by the media -- destroyed the George W. Bush second term.  People were frustrated throughout that the Bush administration never responded.

I asked the president about it numerous times.  He said, "I'm not gonna sully this office.  I'm not gonna take this office down to the gutter where those people are.  I have too much respect for it, too much reverence for it. So they can go all political on me; I'm not responding to it. I'm not gonna get down in the gutter."

And that's why he didn't do it.  Karl Rove later admitted that that might have been a mistake to have this blanket no-response policy.  But that just is a setup, because Rove is asked to respond to this as one of many who did.

You get the jist. Ron Brownstein of the Atlantic got it ...

R.B.- I had a conversation -- interesting conversation -- during the primaries with Alex Castellanos, who is a longtime Republican consultant.  And he was puzzling himself over why Donald Trump was able to hold so much support among conservatives despite all his deviations from conservative orthodoxy.  And he said what he finally concluded was that Trump was so popular because he went after our enemies hammer and tong.  Rush Limbaugh, you know, describes it as a press conference Republican voters have been waiting for forever.

RUSH:  So here's Brownstein admitting that it took a Republican consultant to tell him why Trump was popular. He couldn't figure it out.  And what they've concluded: "Yeah, Trump's popular 'cause he goes after enemies. He's a fighter." That's part of it. There's no question it's part of it.  There are many, many, many other reasons.
You're welcome

OMFG!

                                                       .... One hour Ago

The Hucker showed up with a half bushel of the best crabs I can remeber eating.  The primary reason is they were BIG.  Big  means more succulent back-fin meat, the best part ( I like the 'mustard" just as much).  I put one on the scale and it clocked in at 12.65 oz.  This is going to be a good season.

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker is joining the transgender revolution. The liberal Republican has said he will sign the “transgender rights” bill pushed by leftist Democrats in the state Legislature.

John Smith's Body ...

A Kind & Generous Man

John Smith is on his deathbed and knows the end is near;  His nurse, his wife, his daughter and 2 sons, are with him.
He asks for 2 witnesses to be present and a camcorder to record his last wishes. When all is ready he begins to speak:

My son, Bernie, I want you to take the Mayfair houses."
My daughter "Sybil, you take the apartments over in the east end."
My son, "Jamie, I want you to take the offices over in the City Centre."
"Sarah, my dear wife, please take all the residential buildings on the banks of the river."

The nurse and witnesses are blown away-- they hadn't realized his extensive holdings. As John slips away, the nurse says,  "Mrs. Smith, your husband must have been a hard-working man to have accumulated all this property".

The wife replied, "The asshole had a paper route."

KRISTOLNACHT

KRISTOLNACHT

The "Never Trump" movement died Tuesday night.

That's when the loose affiliation of Republican pundits and conservative thinkers, banded together by their shared distaste for Donald Trump as the GOP nominee, leaked the news to Bloomberg Politics that conservative lawyer David French was the secret third-party candidate they have been working to recruit into the 2016 race as an alternative to the real estate mogul.

The news of French ended days of frantic speculation set off by a tweet — yes, this is the world we now live in — by Weekly Standard editor and "Never Trump" leader Bill Kristol.

And, it confirmed what many — including me — had long suspected: The "Never Trump" movement is totally out of options.

When that Bill Kristol Tweet started bouncing off the walls last week, my first thought was "More K-Street hooliganry!"   My second; "Who can he have convinced that has enough flash to trump Trump?

David French? "
Who?

Don't get me wrong: French, judging from his résumé, is an impressive guy. Decorated military man, conservative thinker and writer for National Review and so on and so forth. And, heck, Mitt Romney likes him!

Along with other Tea Party folk, I fired Kristol and his neocon, K-Street buddies when they fought to save Speaker Boner's ass.  This silliness, with luck, will finally  SThemTFU.

Establishment Panic

This narrative is, apparently, the political establishment's current attempt to forestall Trump's inevitable, if he lives long enough, victory this Fall.   I find this gainsaying rather hilarious, given Team Obama's in-your-face treatment of anyone contradicting, or even questioning them.  The title ought be; "Can the the Establishment Survive A Perpetually Combative President Trump?"  Dear lord, I hope not.

WHY 3D printing will fail

            Techno Thrills

We know that 3D printing will disrupt manufacturing and the international supply chain, but nobody seems to know how yet. Now a paper from the Business School at Lingman Normal University in Zhanjiang has tried to separate the wood from the trees.

The general consensus is that 3D printing is going to have a profound effect. The concept of mass producing goods half way around the world and then shipping them is inherently inefficient. UPS clearly agrees, as it is investing heavily in 3D printing centers throughout the US that can produce goods on demand for local delivery.

So even the big players are panicking, but what will actually happen? There are theories that much of the labor market could actually be wiped out and logistics will become a casualty of the digital era. This doesn’t take into account our natural capacity to adapt, though, and the fact that we have been here before.

This isn’t the first rodeo

When Asia effectively took over mass production, Europe and the US concentrated on complex products. These goods were often assembled with parts taken from the factories that sprang up in China. Those that didn’t adapt, simply died. The ones that did were often more successful than ever.

Now we face a new industrial revolution that brings its own unique problems. We know that there will be upheaval, but still nobody quite knows how this will pan out.

The concept of mass producing goods half way around the world and then shipping them is inherently inefficient. UPS clearly agrees, as it is investing heavily in 3D printing centers throughout the US that can produce goods on demand for local delivery.
We really don’t know if 3D printing will take over mass manufacturing, or if the benefits of the old system will keep it in the game for a long time to come.

Does 3D printing have a limit?

Printing speed, cost and the quality of the finished product are all improving at a rate that suggests this is the future. But we may yet find a cut-off point where it is simply not cost-effective to use the printers for a certain product.

Well the Chinese researchers have attempted to analyse the situation using system dynamics to offer a rational answer.

It posed a number of possibilities and came to the inevitable conclusion: 3D printing is set to change the manufacturing world and the supply chain. [Continue ...]
Let me tell you why this is wrong.  I've been to 3-D movies. I have a 3-D capable television.  As a kid I even had 3-D comic books. After watching/reading for just a few minutes my eyes get blurry, and I get a headache, and I am not alone.  Twenty-minutes onto "HOUSE OF WAX," fully half  the audience left the Montclare Theater in some level of distress. So this 3-D printer stuff, while techno exotic, is doomed to go the way of other gadgets that flopped big time. Don't invest.

You're welcome.

Is Trump just another Fascist?

Is Trump just another Fascist?
An adult, and scholarly answer from John Ray

I have commented on this accusation before but the article below originates from the NYT so I probably should offer a few more comments.

Trump retweeted a Mussolini quote: “It is better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep.”

Asked by Chuck Todd on the NBC program “Meet the Press” about the retweet, Trump brushed off the quote’s origin.

“I know who said it,” he said. “But what difference does it make whether it’s Mussolini or somebody else?”

“Do you want to be associated with a fascist?” Todd asked.

“No,” Trump answered, “I want to be associated with interesting quotes.”
For a start, Trump is if anything philo-semitic rathrer than antisemitic.  That's not strictly relevant as Mussolini was not antisemitic either -- until Hitler pushed him into it.  But in the popular mind Fascism and antisemitism are strongly associated.  When Donald opened his club in Palm Beach called Mar-a-Lago, he insisted on accepting Jews and blacks even though other clubs in Palm Beach to this day discriminate against blacks and Jews.  And his recent speech at AIPAC was warmly pro-Israel.

But picking at little bits that Trump has said here and there miss the main game entirely.  Fascism was LEFTIST and Trump sure is not that.  There has NEVER been a Fascist type regime emanating from  conservatives.  Some past conservative regimes have in fact been remarkably libertarian -- the 19th century's Lord Salisbury, for instance

And the various Latin American dictators of C20 were Bolivarists, not conservatives. And Bolivar had little time for democracy.  The keenest modern-day Bolivarists rule Venezuela. Enough said about that, I think.

You would have to go back to Oliver Cromwell to find a dictator with any sort of conservative identity and Cromwell was not much of a dictator.  He was invited to his role by his fellow Puritan leaders, who saw the need for strong leadership in turbulent times. Cromwell was certainly hard on his Irish opponents but they largely brought that down on their own heads.  There was no Geneva convention at that time.

Leftists moan about Pinochet but he rose to power in response to a desperate plea from the Chilean parliament after a Marxist president had burnt the electoral rolls.  That Pinochet  subsequently used Leftist methods to round up Leftist opponents of his rule was simply a case of him giving the Left a long overdue taste of their own vicious medicine.  And Pinochet was not in fact conservative.  He was originally appointed to the army leadership precisely because he was seen as non-political.  He was just a General doing a job to which he had been invited.  And he retired from that job voluntarily.

Outside of Africa, ALL the vicious regimes of C20 were Leftist -- whether Communists or Fascists.  So the fact that  Trump is not a Leftist GUARANTEES that he is not a Fascist [John J. Ray (M.A.; Ph.D.]
Nothing to add here boss.

HENDERSON, KY  -
Crosses that honor deceased Henderson County veterans were damaged by a man who drove through the display.

Henderson police say Anthony Burrus vandalized 160 crosses at Henderson's Central Park. Burrus says he doesn't remember anything from that day, but he said he knows he got into a fight.

"I know that these men and women have fought for our country; they've risked their lives for me to do ignorant stuff like this," Burrus said.

He says he knows the importance of the 70 year tradition, since his father has a cross in the display. It's one of 5,000 others in the park

"I can't say I did, but I mean, from the video evidence, it looks like my car, so I guess I have to say that it was me," Burrus said. [FULL]

Easy Way

It is much easier to apologize than to ask permission.

Bill Murray, an extraordinary man

"Progressives" will elect Trump

Tim Dunkin [Renew America] makes the point that, even today, many "Republicans," let alone the Millenials rabble, still don't understand.  "The take home message is that they are showing us all exactly why they should not b here to begin with."

Progressives and others on the radical Left are not very intelligent people. This is something we should be very thankful for, because were they actually competent, they would have completely overwhelmed the spineless, feckless Republican Party and established total control decades ago. As it stands, because progressives in the United States have so little foresight and self-control, they end up damaging their own cause through their own foolish behavior and inability to moderate themselves for the sake of more broadly appealing to the masses.
In the interest of "rectifying the names," let's call the illegal immigration "problem" what it really is – an invasion. It's an invasion by hostile foreigners who intrude themselves illegally into our nation, spit on our sovereignty, cause crime, mayhem, and economic dislocation, and then expect to be tolerated and even applauded.

This was shown most recently in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where a crowd of left-wing hooligans – including a large contingent of Mexican flag-waving illegal immigrants – attempted to shut down a Trump rally in the city. They failed, of course, as people on the Left nearly always do, but not before they demonstrated to the rest of the country why we desperately need President Trump to clamp down on people like them. In the course of the riot (not "protest"), they burned American flags, fired pellet guns at people, threw rocks and bottles, attacked a man in a wheelchair, destroyed police vehicles, and even critically injured a police horse. To date, the Left has not condemned, or even apologized for, the violence committed by these thugs. By all appearances, the Left seems to approve of the attempt to use violence to stifle free political expression and to coerce its opponents into silence.

Most Americans revolt against the idea that our politics will be, or even could be, dominated by whoever can cause the most mayhem in the streets. This is why these sorts of riots only serve to generate sympathy, and then support, for Donald Trump. The more Americans see what the opposition really has to offer, the more they reject it. This is especially the case when the bulk of the mayhem is being committed by illegal aliens – people who, by definition, are not even supposedly to be here and who are, again by definition, already systematically violating our nation's laws and sovereignty anywise.

So what to make of a bunch of hostile, law-breaking foreigners who are now attempting to use violence and coercion to intimidate voters and to sway the election in their direction?

The take home message is that they are showing us all exactly why they should not be here to begin with. [Full Argument]
