SCOTUS Gun Case

High Court Agrees to Hear Gun-Rights Case

“ The Supreme Court agreed to decide whether some state gun regulations violate the Constitution, the second phase of the justices' re-examination of the right to bear arms in the 21st century.

Last year, the court ruled that the Second Amendment includes an individual right to self-defense, and struck down a Washington, D.C., ordinance that effectively banned possession of handguns within the capital.

That decision rested on the District of Columbia's unique status as a federal enclave, and left unanswered what the amendment means for states. Supporters of gun control say states are free to set their own weapons ... [Full]

Cat or Fire Hydrant?

QOTD
Unfortunately, the American commander in chief is a cat in a dog-eat-dog world. - Kathleen Parker
“
Parker had me dog zooming around the house [The World Is a Fire Hydrant]

It may be too soon to pass judgment on Obama's new foreign policy strategy, but early returns on his gamble that talking is the best cure are less than reassuring. Each time Obama extends a hand to one of the world's anti-American despots, he is rewarded with an insult (Venezuela's Hugo Chavez) or, perhaps, a missile display (North Korea and Iran).

One may view these episodes as diminishing America's status or as a tolerable annoyance -- sort of the way Dobermans view toy poodles. At some point, the big dog reminds the little yapper of his place. Unfortunately, the American commander in chief is a cat in a dog-eat-dog world.

Indoctrinate U-2

Obama hates the Nazi analogies
So we'll use Stalin.  Same difference.

A dad called Tom Marr's WCBM (Baltimore) talk show this morning with this tid-bit.  His first grader (Howard County School) was singing a paean to Barack Hussein Obama.   Lalalalala  Where did you learn that song, he asked?  At school, the kid replied.

My wife was listening in her car and called to alert me, but I was too late. Okay, I'm thinking, this will be on the news tonight.  Nuh-uh.  Nothing.  WCBM has radio's worst web site, so there's no getting anything there.  I Googled news, blogs, etc. and got  zip, nada.

MoSup said the dad read the lyrics (the kid had a printed sheet), so I looked up the lyrics that the kids in New Jersey were singing (partial on the right) and showed them to the Sup. She said they looked like what was read  on the radio.

Now, you'll remember, the great objection thoughtful Americans had with Obama's school kid address, were with the attendant lesson plans. They put Obamans in an untenable position, vis-a-vis refuting charges of "indoctrination," and so they were scrapped. or so it was announced. But, if kids in Columbia MD are learning the same lyrics that kids in Burlington Township School District in New Jersey were singing, where did they come from?

If you go look at the lyrics link, check out Michael Stone saying that Obama's intrusion into the school sanctuary with political doctrine is "something beautiful and innocent...:

Obamunists are ... are ...enemy.

    Lyrics
    ========
    Song 1:
    Mm, mmm, mm!
    Barack Hussein Obama

He said that all must lend a hand
To make this country strong again
    Mmm, mmm, mm!
    Barack Hussein Obama

He said we must be fair today
    Equal work means equal pay
    Mmm, mmm, mm!
    Barack Hussein Obama

He said that we must take a stand
To make sure everyone gets a chance
    Mmm, mmm, mm!
    Barack Hussein Obama

    He said red, was  blue
So it nst then be true
    Mmm, mmm, mm!
    Barack Hussein Obama
(Okay, I made that one up)

Gore Vidal

People named Gore
wtf is it with them?

I'll admit to having enjoyed Gore Vidal's  books about Lincoln and Burr, but then Barbra Streisand has a nice voice.  Otherwise, my opinion of Gore Vidal was cemented at this video moment with Bill Buckley.  Forty years later he's still alive, and the archetypal Liberal;  arrogant, smug,  anti-American,  and ever deserving of a punch in the nose, which Bill Buckley came damned close to delivering. He's on today's radar screen because Drudge hyped Gore Vidal: ‘We’ll have a dictatorship soon in the US’    Read it if you want, but this passage  pretty much destroys any specter of  Vidal the sagacious visionary, if one indeed ever existed.

“ His voice strengthens. “One thing I have hated all my life are LIARS [he says that with bristling anger] and I live in a nation of them. It was not always the case. I don’t demand honour, that can be lies too. I don’t say there was a golden age, but there was an age of general intelligence. We had a watchdog, the media.” The media is too supine? “Would that it was. They’re busy preparing us for an Iranian war.” He retains some optimism about Obama “because he doesn’t lie. We know the fool from Arizona [as he calls John McCain] is a liar. We never got the real story of how McCain crashed his plane [in 1967 near Hanoi, North Vietnam] and was held captive.” ”

Gummint Crimes

There are eight billion gummint health care stories.
This has been one of them.

The Naked Troot

But, they all sound the same?
“ When the pain in Christina Woodkey's legs became so severe that she could no longer hike or cross-country ski, she went to her local health clinic. The Calgary, Canada, resident was told she'd need to see a hip specialist. Because the problem was not life-threatening, however, she'd have to wait about a year.

So wait she did.

In January, the hip doctor told her that a narrowing of the spine was compressing her nerves and causing the pain. She needed a back specialist. The appointment was set for Sept. 30. 'When I was given that date, I asked when could I expect to have surgery,' said Woodkey, 72. 'They said it would be a year and a half after I had seen this doctor.'

So this month, she drove across the border into Montana and got the $50,000 surgery done in two days. 'I don't have insurance. We're not allowed to have private health insurance in Canada,' Woodkey said. 'It's not going to be easy to come up with the money. But I'm happy to say the pain is almost all gone.' (Continued)

There are so many bulls*t objections that you'd almost think some in congress were trying to sabotage the effort. Wouldn't you?

But Wait!  There's More.
Is there anybody left in America, aside from public school students, their teachers, and the idiot cashier at Giant,  who doesn't know man-caused global warming was created as a means to redistribute wealth?  Who are not aware, at some level, that thanks entirely to government malfeasance, misfeasance, and raw stupidity, that the United States has no more wealth to distribute?  Then why this? It would be a shame to lose Air Force One, which cost the taxpayers $325 million, and a tragedy to lose any of the plane's fine crew to those filthy Muslims. By the way, you'll find  Secret Service and AF One pilot  views on past presidents tres' interesting.

Apropos of that, our next door neighbor when we lived in Camp Springs, near Andrews AFB, was the pilot of  "Air Force Two." That unofficial designation belonging to the Air Force One not carrying the President, but his family, or other designated VIP like the V.P.   They despised  flying the Johnson daughters who would say they'd be ready to leave in a few hours, and not show up.  That meant the crew had to stay on stand-by, and couldn't leave the plane to eat, sleep or whatever. The wait often extended to overnight, or longer.

Lies of My Father

Literary Liar Lion Obama Will Roar No More
The major media will not likely tackle the emerging evidence of Obama's stunning literary fraud, but the days of Obama's boasting about his writing skills are just as likely over.   Story

Last October I referenced Jack Cashill's research which made a good case for Bill Ayers being the author of Obama's  "autobiographical" steaming plile of lies,  Dreams From My Father.  It was during this time that The One was denying  ever having more than a passing relationship with Weatherman terrorist Ayeres.  Cashill's back .

Jamar's Sno-ball stand

It had all the makings of a Damon Runyon story. The election of a street hustler, and sometime dope dealer to the presidency was the spark.  Encouraged, and determined to become President of the United States himself, Jamar cleaned up his act and followed his own dream of owning a Sno-Ball stand.  It would be a beginning.  First one, then city-wide franchises. Wasting no time, Jamar quit, on the spot, his job as petty thief and part time pimp (when he had a girlfriend), and held a grand opening.

The wheels soon came off.  It took less than a day for Jamar to be  gob-smacked by the harsh reality that's doomed so many other Jamars in America.  Racism.  Even in south side Chicago, it worked against a young man of Color  How else to explain zero sales, even though he had no competition? That night he closed up and walked away from the dream, melting back into the mean streets of the south side.

Iraq, the unraveling (XXIV)
"...if you've been playing poker for half an hour and you don't know who the patsy at the table is, you're the patsy. "

Despite the vaunted "lessons learned from Vietnam" when politicians decided they were great military strategists (and tacticians, if you're LBJ), nothing seems to have really changed as far as I can tell.
“ What I am hearing is that [top U.S. commander Gen. Raymond] Odierno is profoundly frustrated with [Amb. Christopher] Hill, who despite knowing almost nothing about Iraq has decided after a short time there that it is time to stand back and stop influencing the behavior of Iraqi officials on a daily basis. In addition, I am told, the ambassador believes the war is an Iraqi problem, not something that really concerns Americans anymore, despite the presence of 125,000 American soldiers. On the other hand, the diplomats respond, the military guys believe they have good relationships with Iraqi officials, but, the dips add, how would the soldiers really know? Because unlike Hill's posse, they don't speak Arabic. Which brings to mind my favorite saying of Warren Buffett, that if you've been playing poker for half an hour and you don't know who the patsy at the table is, you're the patsy.  [unraveling continued]
”
This stinks. Once the politicians trigger a war, the generals ought be unencumbered in their mission (the only mission in war) of destroying the enemy, utterly, by any and all means.  If sniveling back-stabbing politicians engage in intrigue, kill them too, a lesson Hannibal learned only too late. Then install someone like me to govern for a generation. Anyway, if all this is your bag, skip to Taylor Marsh (Tensions)

Democrats try to pack the courts
Obama and the Senate are emulating FDR

“ A subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing Wednesday on the proposed Federal Judgeship Act of 2009 (S. 1653), which would create positions for 63 new federal judges - 51 in federal district courts and 12 in appeals courts. This proposal is nothing less than a sneaky equivalent of what President Franklin D. Roosevelt tried with his infamous court-packing power grab on the Supreme Court in 1937. The only slight difference is that this attempt is more under the radar.  [More]
”
I was waiting for this, but thought it would come by splitting the Ninth US Circuit Court of Appeals, something the Bush Administration considered but, of course, did nothing after Democrats said Boo!  Feh, they'll prolly do that after ramming this one through, which thanks to the fraudulently elected Al Franken and the chicanery that allowed Dead Ted's successor to be appointed, they nominally have the guns to do.  But WTF, if we're going to have to rip this gummunt apart and restore the constitutional version, it means judges go with the rest.  Meant in the good, not bad, way.

The coincidence last Saturday was both ironic and nauseating. Obama: Mandate is Not a Tax
*SNORT*
Joint Committee on Taxation Chief of Staff Tom Barthold

  • Item: During last Sunday's television blitz, Obama forcefully objected to statements that the mandate to buy health insurance was a tax increase.  (watch).
  • Item:   Under questioning from Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.), Barthold said the IRS would "take you to court and undertake normal collection proceedings."
  • Item: This wasn't persuasive to the committee -- which rejected an amendment from Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) to eliminate the individual mandate (Sen. Olympia Snowe voting with Democrats to keep the mandate).
  • Item, Ensign asked for and received a handwritten memo from Barthold (copied above)
