Amie Rodham Parnes?

1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster

Take a gander at a real classic.

1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster

Can you imagine having the same car for 82 years?!!!   I guess it was no longer under warranty...   "How Long Have You Owned a Car?"

Mr. Allen Swift ( Springfield , MA.) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Picadilly P1 Roadster from his father, brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928. He drove it up until his death last year.....at the age of 102. He was the oldest living owner of a car from new.  Just thought you'd like to see it.

He donated it to a Springfield museum after his death. It has 170,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at any speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition. (82 years)   That's approximately 2000 miles per year...

Wonder what this thing is worth on the open market?

That particular car set his folks back $10,900 (141,700 in 2010 dollars). It's hard difficult to speculate what it would sell for today at auction. A P1 was up for auction recently for $77K with no reserve. I don't know what it sold for. If I would venture to guess though, this car would fetch over $200k (just my guess).[source]

lotp British special forces have gone back and rescued another 150 people from Libya. Meanwhile, Obama recovers from his Motown celebrations at the WH (or at any rate, that's all that he seems to be doing).

I am deeply ashamed for our country at the contrast.

trailing wife Libya had training camps for the world's bad guys, as did Saddam Hussein's Iraq. It was called something-or-other Pak, as I recall. On one side of the fence the Iraqis trained, on the other side the various terror groups were trained: bombs, airplane hijacking, poisons... The loss of that professional training probably has a lot to do with the dilemma Al Qaeda finds itself in now, as the ever-decreasing number of Number 4s work desperately to train while they are trying to manufacture supplies.

Morgan Freeman

La-la-la with Morgan Freeman

I've had various (la-la-la-la) go-to outlets over the years, for when I'm feeling "bad stuff" overload (ahem).  RFD-TV was one.  Some will remember me posting cattle auction videos.  More recently I turned to EWTN (Catholic TV), but their world news is really very good, which means very troubling.  I feel guilty using eff-words in church, so to speak.  Lately I turn to my cache of Through the Wormhole episodes, narrated by Morgan Freeman. I can't think of a better speaking voice than his.  Add to that his acting career.  No, not just that every movie he makes is eminently watchable; it's that he's the rare Hollywooder who seems to be grounded; nowhere close to your typical movieland left-bot.  He's someone very easy to like.

Anyway, I go to sleep listening to Wormhole every night, and every morning I wake with a wonderful understanding of quantum physics - that I unfortunately can't remember.  Maybe Freeman's best moment - maybe the best moment any American has ever had - is this 60 second clip from a Black History Month interview with Mike Wallace.  Morgan Freemen may be the smartest guy in the country.

SR-71 Blackbird, over Libya

How a Pilot Risked His Life To Spy On Libya

Danger Zone
We had crossed into Libya and were approaching our final turn over the bleak desert landscape when Walter informed me that he was receiving missile launch signals. I quickly increased our speed, calculating the time it would take for the weapons-most likely SA-2 and SA-4 surface-to-air missiles capable of Mach 5 - to reach our altitude. I estimated that we could beat the rocket-powered missiles to the turn and stayed our course, betting our lives on the plane's performance.

After several agonizingly long seconds, we made the turn and blasted toward the Mediterranean 'You might want to pull it back,' Walter suggested. It was then that I noticed I still had the throttles full forward. The plane was flying a mile every 1.6 seconds, well above our Mach 3.2 limit. It was the fastest we would ever fly. I pulled the throttles to idle just south of Sicily , but we still overran the refueling tanker awaiting us over Gibraltar. [Full Article]

Smart Phone Beats Speeding Ticket

Smart Phone Beats Speeding Ticket
Half the traffic tickets I've collected, including all two in Virginia, were the result of dishonest coppery, a.k.a. cops who made stuff up, a.k.a. lying pit-faced lowbrows with a badge*.  So this is received with much clap-calp-clappery. .

A student describes how he was able to get out a speeding ticket by whipping out his Android.

The cop cited him for going over 40 mph in a 25 zone, which he was too frazzled to contest at the time. After he had cooled down and parked his car later, he remembered that he had been running the My Tracks app by Google which records your GPS info and speed. Pulling up the data, he found that he hadn't been speeding. When his court date arrived, he plead not guilty, presented his GPS data, and successfully got out of the ticket. Nice!
Plea-bargaining 101
*On four occasions - when the cops had me dead to rights - I was let off with a warning.  Go figure.

Changing History Willy-Nilly

Fast and Loose

U-2 Shoot Down, ver2.15

Some years ago I read an article claiming  that the U-2 was not shot down from an altitude of 70,000 feet - by a Russian SAM.  This of course was at odds with the story that Soviets used SAM technology we didn't know they possessed.  This article claimed that, most probably, his engines shut down, and he was brought down only after descending to denser air at a lower altitude. I read it and moved on.

A few days ago the Hitler Channels ran a documentary about the Cold War.  One that, out of the blue, included that very Gary Powers-U2 scenario. The Soviets had Powers tracked from the moment he entered their air space, but had no way of shooting him down from 70,000 feet.  Powers suffered a flame-out.  He descended to 60,000 feet, then 50,000, until finally getting a restart at 30,000 feet.  Bam. He was nailed by a Russian SAM.

So much for the stories that turncoats, like Lee Harvey Oswald, or John Walker, had given the Soviets information that allowed the shoot-down.  What's nagging me is how this new "history" is being released.  Willy-nilly.  No explanation for why they, the government, allowed the public to believe that the Russkies had more advanced technology than they actually did (wink-wink). Nope, just drop that turd on the bridle path, and canter off. Very untidy, that.

Abercombie Fires Birth Record Overseer

Political battle over who will become
director of the
Hawaiian

Abercombie falsely charges that nominee is
under federal investigation; Fires him!

"I have known Abercrombie for 50 years, back to when we were both undergraduate students at the University of Hawaii," Slom said. "Abercrombie was pro-communist and I was pro-American. ... [He's] a small man, about 5 feet 1 inch in height, with a huge ego," said Slom. "He thought he could come into office and do Obama a great favor by putting an end to Obama's birth controversy."
Hawaii stae Sen. Slom

Let me axe you something?  Which is it?   Obama has "nothing to hide", or is it "nothing to show?"   And haven't we all been waiting for this shoe to drop?

The latest development comes as well-connected sources in Hawaii are warning that certain government officials in the state have been contemplating releasing fraudulent birth records for Obama in the run-up to the 2012 election. At least 11 states are currently considering legislation that would require future presidential candidates to prove constitutional eligibility by proving they are "natural born citizens. [...]

Classic cornered rat scenario.  Obama will have no choice but to roll the dice; betting democrat operatives can do a better job of  producing a phony birth certificate then they did with the Bush '"Guard" documents.  Democrats have no problem releasing "false, but accurate" documents, because their cause is so pure, and just. However, failure to pass muster in any such attempt means the end of the Democrat Party, and jail time for anyone involved.  Do you feel lucky, Obamunistas?  Do you?

He's up your ass

Government yard sale could
help bring down national debt

With the government more than $14 trillion in debt  and the Government Accountability Office (GAO) warning that the longer Congress waits to raise the debt ceiling the harder it will be for the Treasury Department to keep the government operating, some have suggested Congress take a note from Sanford and Son and start selling the junk it already owns.

So what kinds of crap can we sell off?

GUMMINT-YARD-SALE

The federal government reportedly owns more than one fourth of the land in the United States. According to the “Budget of the U.S. Government for FY2010,” at the end of FY 2008, the federal government held $767 billion in land, and $421 billion in “mineral rights.”
  • In addition to land, the Office of Budget and Management reports that Uncle Sam also owns more than $1.17 trillion in fixed reproducible capital (things like buildings and machinery) and $290 billion in inventory.
  • “The GAO also notes that the federal government has ‘many assets it does not need,’ including billions of dollars worth of excess and vacant buildings.
  •  If the government were to sell off their General Motors shares it could bring in an estimated $18 billion. Further, ATR suggests that the government make GM repay the $30 billion it got from Troubled Asset Relief Program and leave the estimated $168 billion in remaining “stimulus” dollars unspent.
Puh-leeeeze,  Don't get me started.  Okay, they already did.

Let's begin by reversing stupid-as-hell EO, like Clinton's that took out largest deposit of clean burning coal off the market; or Obama's, that's shut down oil drilling everywhere. It will do little good to sell everything, but hamstring the entrepreneurial spirit with insane energy and enviro law.   But, let's face it.  This bankruptcy we face is only a symptom of the much larger root problem.

The Easy-Bake Oven loses its soul

That would be government that causes stuff like this. Get rid of that government, or pound sand.

Stepping into the breech here boss!
I remember when newly elected mayor Rudy Giulianni explained what would be involved in cleaning up crime in NYC.  Begin with the the small things.  Graffiti, public urination, winos sleeping on the street, etc.  Remember?  There were howls of protest from the Manhattan elite of course, but only until they noticed that, by God, New York was suddenly a nice place to live.  I woke this morning to do my share.  To make the USA a better place by exposing culture gone bad, and how to change it.  The simple things matter. Democrats lied, Now they get pied.

Democrats and Unions make a claim.
Turns out they lied. Yawn.  Carry on.

The Democratic Party of Wisconsin and other supporters of the state's teachers union claim that the five states that do not have collective bargaining for teachers have the following SAT/ACT ranks: South Carolina -50th/ North Carolina -49th/ Georgia -48th/ Texas -47th/ Virginia -44th," and that Wisconsin ranks second. According to Politifact, the claim is completely bogus.

More likely, it's because only 4 percent of Wisconsin students took the SAT in 2010, compared to 74 percent of Georgia students, 67 percent of Virginia students, 66 percent of South Carolina students, 63 percent of North Carolina students, and 53 percent of Texas students. Hell, every state in the country would have a shot at the podium if it excluded 96 percent of its students from standardized test rankings.

Just A Head
While we were in Sharm el-Sheikh, President Mubarak happened to visit the place.

I remember the fear which suddenly engulfed the town when it was announced that Mubarak was coming on an unexpected visit; I can still see the cavalcade of black cars on the day of his visit and feel the almost physical awareness of fear, like a cold chill on that very hot day in Summer.

It was a weird experience; Mubarak is not considered the worst of the Islamic tyrants and yet, the fear of the ordinary Egyptians for their leader could be felt even by me. I wonder how Saudis feel when their King is in town, how Libyans feel when Gaddafi announces his coming, how Iraqis must have felt when Saddam Hussein was near. A few years later, I read in the Koran how the 7th century Arabs felt in the presence of Muhammad, who, as several verses describe, “cast terror into their hearts” (suras 8:12, 8:60, 33:26, 59:12). [Extra credit if you're Moslem]

Hoo-Ya!

Howard Zinn is Dead

I am an old-school American partisan here, and have little respect for Progressive adversaries.  But, when one of the sumbitches dies, like Ted Kennedy, I will wait a suitable period of time before gloating reflecting on how much better our lives, our nation, and the world would be had the departed never been born.  I'll even wait for Jummy - although the way that C___S_____ is hanging on, he may outlast me. So there's that.

Comments to posts older than a few days are turned off until I  review them (defeat the spammers). I just received this automated request for a comment made to a post from Friday, September 12, 2008.

mperkins has left a new comment on your post "Howard Zinn, et al":

Quote: Doesn't matter any more, Roger. He died a long time ago. He's now roasting with his dead commie heroes Marx, Lenin, Trotsky & Mao, whom he always gave a pass in his comparisons to our Founding Fathers because they were working "for the betterment of the masses".

Did he die of 3rd stage syphilis? :)

I am going through the archives as I only discovered the site last year.

What?  I looked it up.    That commiesumbitch Howard Zinn indeed dropped dead on January 27, 2010.  What a party we missed.  It is not mine to say whether anyone is in Hell, or not; but unless he made a powerful act of contrition with his last breath ... - Lake Cocytus?  Next question: is his peg-boy Matt Damon still alive, or did I miss that one too?

This is how these dickwads think:

JFC! I defy anyone to explain why David Gregory should not be permanently labeled "moron." No, I mean real moron.  IQ below 70 moron.  No critical thinking skills moron.

I joke about the Nobel Peace Prize a lot, because the NPP is a joke.  What it ought be awarded for is promoting ideas that save  lives, and advance peace; not for being the best anti-American American.  Someone like me.  I am not joking.  Someone like me; a man with a plan, who recognizes a coming maelstrom, and solutions it.

The latest ObamaCare ruling, this time from a district judge in Washington, D.C., is here (PDF). Legally, it does not break new ground. Like the other Democratic-nominated judges to get the issue, she finds the health care mandate plenty justified by the Commerce Clause. The Republican-nominated judges to get the case found that it wasn't.

The split is one of worldview. For many Democrats the federal government's power is nearly unlimited or should be. That has been the foundational premise of almost all "progressive" litigation and a great deal of Democratic legislation, which seeks to impose solutions on backward individuals and states that just won't get with the program.  ACE- District Judge: The Federal Government Can Regulate Your Mindthoughts

All the warnings about Liberals Balkanizing the United States have by now come to fruition.  Under our new theocracy (statism is the left's religion), only the facade of a federal republic remains.

For instance, in the United States' effectively tricameral system, it takes a substantial political consensus of the House, Senate, and President to pass a law, including a law repealing an international human rights norm. The Free Dictionary

That may have been true at one time, and was almost certainly the founders vision, despite creating three branches of government, Executive, Legislative, and Judicial.  As smart as they were, and they were very smart, and deliberative, they were unable to conjure a judicial branch that ate the other two.  But there you have it; it's where we're at.  Our motto today is more accurately  E Pluribus Gaggle. To sum up, at least half of us wouldn't piss on Obama to see the splash (with Obama standing for all American "Progressives,").  We are facing one of two scenarios; civil war, or the expulsion of some states. Yes, I've talked this walk before, but this is where I break new ground.

The new United States do  not have to be contiguous!  Now it's easy.  We don't hate Massachusettsians (Ahem); we just don't want any of them having a say in our law making; and vice versa.  We can maintain common borders, but not a common government.  Nor a  common currency, what with theirs being worthless.  The surviving United States will be a federal republic, but a confederation - where the states maintain the sovereignty, which, again, was clearly the original intent..  We can continue to enjoy the good parts of each other, but not a shared governance.  Vie for tourist dollars, etc.  You want a Nancy Pelosi?  No skin off our backs, but beware - we don't  give foreign aid.  No lives lost.  Happiness all around. You're welcome, your applause means everything a lot.  Ahem.
