Kid Think

Imagine That!

What Kids See

Vicky was at a business conference. During a break, she decided to call home collect. Her six-year-old son picked up the phone and heard a stranger’s voice say, “We have Vicky on the line. Will you accept the charges?” Frantic, the six-year-old dropped the receiver and came charging outside screaming, “Dad! They have Mom! And they want money!”

Teaparty Uprising

GOP leadership faces possible tea party revolt in 2012

Possible?

Buh-Bye RINO Buh-Bye

In less than three years, the Tea Party has gone from being ignored to being an amusing joke to being a convenient scapegoat for all of America's ills. What's next?

TheDC's John Rossomando reports: "Tea party activist David Lewis's announcement Friday that he plans to mount a primary challenge to House Speaker John Boehner could indicate a larger problem for the GOP leadership, and point to restlessness among an important segment of the tea party faithful. Republican leaders face a growing perception among some tea party factions that they are not interested in holding the Obama administration's feet to the fire on spending. Some say the Republicans talked a good game going into the 2010 midterms but have failed to deliver since winning control of the House of Representatives.  (Jim Treacher)

If Sarah doesn't run for president for some reason, I'd like to see her chair the GOP and rebrand it as a 100% purist Teaparty Party. What's the primary difference between the Teaparty and the GOP?  Primarily it's conviction.  Have some.

Woot Back-up

Woot! Stuff

Woot

Check google shopping - everyone and their mother has this exact item, brand new, for considerably less. Woot has gone downhill since Amazon took over - this is but another example. (YES)

On the fence ... apparently it doesn't do system backups - only data files ... hmmm ... but amazon, cnet, and pcworld all gave raves. And the price is definitely good. Hmmm ...

These are great for people who aren't very good with computers but need a backup solution for their files. I got one for my dad and all he has to do is plug it into his laptop and it backs everything up automatically. It searches out and finds data files and you can also add folders manually that you want it to keep backed up.

This is probably not a good solution for someone who can setup their own backup on a standard external drive, knows what a NAS is, or is just looking for external storage.

Can't comment on the price however.

The Evening Buffet

Chart of the Day: 'Buffett Rule'

So how much would the so-called Buffett Rule bring in? It's hard to say, because Obama didn't define precisely how it would work. But he did say it would create a tax rate floor for those who make more than $1 million per year. So let's use 2009 tax return data from the IRS to imagine some possible scenarios for how much additional tax revenue the new tax could bring in. Here's a chart:

The Buffett Rule

Am I wrong?  It seems this is first time I read something in the ATLANTIC that made sense.   If you follow this debate, I would bet money that someone will argue "Look, maybe taxing the rich at 100% only generates $450B, but that's enough to start funding schools at proper levels."   And next year it might generate what? $3?

McGinnis Head First into the Crapper

Pummeling Palin with trash talk

...  Sarah smoked pot. Sarah snorted coke off an oil drum. Sarah bedded a black athlete. Sarah slept with Todd's business partner. And oh yeah, she's not Trigg's mom. You get the picture. No bathroom stall in Alaska was left undisturbed in his quest for dirt.

What you won't find are footnotes or endnotes sourcing all his trash talk. Instead, the acknowledgments conveniently state: "There are others, both in Alaska and elsewhere, whom I'd like to thank, but so many of them - for fear of harassment by supporters of Sarah Palin - have asked me not to mention them by name. . . ."

My Reverie
My Reverie

My brain-flash just now is  that Sarah  postponed any presidential announcement  because she knew this book was purpose published,  and didn't want to let the media hijack her message with questions about this crap.  Damn smart thing to do actually.

Read the rest of this article and get the backstory on McGinniss's unsourced and twisted allegation that Sarah left the University of Hawaii after three weeks because there were too many "people of color."  Which phrase hadn't been coined at the time.  (Short answer—  she's 18, away from her small home town and family for the first time, and finds herself in a foreign culture. We'd called it homesick. ).

I've heard people remark that they sure wish Todd would shoot that sumbitch McGinniss (maybe the voices in my head?), but he won't because he's smart, and in control.  You know who would have had him killed though (if he had actually loved Hillary) ... ?

Recently, these sources informed him that the earthquakes that occurred in Colorado and the Washington DC area, surrounding August 22nd and 23rd, were, in fact, apparently nuclear strikes against underground military facilities.

[These underground bases] have been built by the US government, ostensibly since the early 1960s, at the cost of trillions of dollars of undocumented taxpayer money that is going into these “black projects.

How They Think

Can the myth of “certainty” be far behind?
HUH?

False Premises
Can the myth of “certainty” be far behind?

Employers don’t create jobs, customers do. This week, business owners themselves exploded the myth that they are the job creators.

Previously we’d offered the argument that businesses don’t create jobs. “Customers are the engine of capitalism and of jobs,” we wrote. “Employees are hired when a willing buyer shows up at the door. Jobs are not created for any other reason.” Now business owners have weighed in to provide corroboration.

Reporting this week in the New York Times, Mokoto Rich interviewed Jeffery Braverman, owner of Nutsonline, in Cranford, N.J.. Even a $4,000 tax cut would not cause him to hire anyone. “You still need to have the business need to hire,” says Braverman. “Business demand is what drives hiring.” [blah-blah-blah]

The debunked myth (I stumbled upon), according to the Jimmy Zuma dude,  is that "Employers create jobs"

Zuma's actual goal here is to defend Obama's crappy Jobs Bill.  To buttress the Democrat's mythical claim  of being able to create jobs (by stealing money and giving it to Solyndra).   This government has certainly destroyed millions of jobs—   with walls of anti-business taxes and regulations, but it has never created a single sustainable  private sector job.  Just like the Soviet Union never did.

And oh!—   it's certainly true that in a land where nobody has any money, there are no customers,  but that's  a different problem; albeit  from the same source.  Any good entrepreneur will however get around that, and create new  wealth, but only if democrats stay the hell out of their way.  That's not a myth.

THIS JUST IN
False Premises
OMFG!  We'll be rolling in money now!!

So let's impeach the sumbitch

Obama tears up the Constitution
The scope of his lawless disregard expands by the day

Exercise Yard, Raila Odinga Prinson, Kenya.
2013 - Exercise Yard, Raila Odinga Prinson, Kenya.

The Constitution of the United States, whose adoption we celebrate every Sept. 17, clearly lists the powers of each branch of the national government. Let’s take a look at what Barack Obama, like any president, is empowered to do and see if it squares with his actions. In Article II, Section 1, he is sworn to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Section 2 names the president as commander in chief of the armed forces, grants him the power to make treaties with the advice and consent of the Senate and to appoint ambassadors, federal judges, Cabinet officials and other federal officers. Section 3 says the president “shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed.”

In his two years and nine months in office, President Obama has compiled a spectacular record of noncompliance with the Constitution. Here are just some of the ways his administration has failed to execute the laws while using raw, unauthorized power:

Obama could without question be impeached by the House if the political will existed.  It doesn't for a few reasons, not the least of which is the Democrat controlled Senate would never vote to remove him (nor would half the Republicans).  Which is a shame because Obama deserves being removed from office, the sooner the better.

This list presented by the ass-hat left as justification for impeaching Bush  establishes the bar.

Anyway, I will add this article to my Sack of Stuff (Defining Articles) that are kept in the cellar,  for readers who want to reference it in the future.

BTW, Knight does not present a comprehensive list here, but his are fine, and recent additions to others already presented.

Thru Thin Walls

In 1987, two aspiring Bohemians who met at the University of Wisconsin, Mitch Deprey and Eddie Guerriero — soon to be immortalized as “Mitchell D and Eddie Lee Sausage” — left the Midwest for San Francisco, where they moved into a funky apartment on Steiner and Waller in the Lower Haight. Thanks to thin walls and alcohol, they discovered that their new next-door neighbors were Raymond, a virulent homophobe in love with the word “cocksucker,” and Peter, a bitchy queen prone to rejoinders of “SHUT UP, LITTLE MAN!”, both of them sad alcoholics inexplicably sharing a one-room apartment. Their vulgar, late-night scream fights (and occasionally, fistfights) were so entertaining that Mitch and Eddie started recording them, sharing the tapes with friends ... . [Full]

Kleaver - "If we weren't racist, we'd be pissed"

Today's Quote From Alternative Americans
"If Obama wasn't president, we would be ‘marching on the White House’" - CBC Chairman Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (No relation to the Beaver).

Unhappy members of the Congressional Black Caucus “probably would be marching on the White House” if Obama were not president, according to CBC Chairman Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.).

CBC KLAN"If [former President] Bill Clinton had been in the White House and had failed to address this problem, we probably would be marching on the White House ... There is a less-volatile reaction in the Congressional Black Caucus because nobody wants to do anything that would empower the people who hate the president."

Aside from further demonstrating the Democrat leadership's inability to grasp the economic reality that gummint cannot create (non-government) jobs, Brother Kleaver confirms their putative stark racism.

Repudiation ...

Repudiation ... OMFG

Hoes in the Outfield

Most people, unfortunately, apply the same analysis to public debt as they do to private. If sanctity of contracts should rule in the world of private debt, shouldn't they be equally as sacrosanct in public debt? Shouldn't public debt be governed by the same principles as private? The answer is no, even though such an answer may shock the sensibilities of most people.

One of yesterday's links to people I link-to has resulted in a starburst of energetic discovery, and to some extent repudiation and validation of some of my own positions. This link.

Which also contained this post.

Put Debt Repudiation On the Table

I propose, then, a seemingly drastic
but actually far less destructive way of paying off the public debt at a single blow: out-right debt repudiation. Consider this question: why should the poor, battered citizens of Russia or Poland or the other ex-Communist countries be bound by the debts contracted by their former Communist masters? ... Similarly, we the living did not contract for either the past or the present debts incurred by the politicians and bureaucrats in Washington. -- Repudiating the National Debt - Murray N. Rothbard - Mises Daily

Posted by Vanderleun at 8:36 PM | Your Say (1)

In the old days (1970s), when perhaps the nation's only broadly distributed conservative opinion came via the Wall Street Journal's Editorial pages, every Thursday contained what I called the " The Thursday Car-loon" column.  When I began reading it that column was written by Alexander Cockburn ( later by Al Hunt, who was as left-wing as Cockburn, but without the intelligence).  This is by way of saying that I think Cockburn is a first class A-hole.  Had I simply watched the video then, I would have left happy with the notion that Vanderleun was presenting an easy  target for disdain .  Advocating the repudiation of credit card debt is a distinctly Commie thing to do. A gentleman is honor bound to his debts, and must go to his grave having done everything possible to pay them.  Then, I clicked the link Repudiating the National Debt - Murray N. Rothbard - Mises Daily.

To the extent that my leathery brain cells can expand to accept new and unwelcome formulations, they did. Bear in mind that I am quoting from the Ludwig von Mises Institute web page.
Hoes in the Outfield

In the spring of 1981, conservative Republicans in the House of Representatives cried. They cried because, in the first flush of the Reagan Revolution that was supposed to bring drastic cuts in taxes and government spending, as well as a balanced budget, they were being asked by the White House and their own leadership to vote for an increase in the statutory limit on the federal public debt, which was then scraping the legal ceiling of one trillion dollars. They cried because all of their lives they had voted against an increase in public debt, and now they were being asked, by their own party and their own movement, to violate their lifelong principles. The White House and its leadership assured them that this breach in principle would be their last: that it was necessary for one last increase in the debt limit to give President Reagan a chance to bring about a balanced budget and to begin to reduce the debt. Many of these Republicans tearfully announced that they were taking this fateful step because they deeply trusted their President, who would not let them down.

Famous last words.

Any melding of public debt into a private transaction must rest on the common but absurd notion that taxation is really "voluntary," and that whenever the government does anything, "we" are willingly doing it. This convenient myth was wittily and trenchantly disposed of by the great economist Joseph Schumpeter: "The theory which construes taxes on the analogy of club dues or of the purchases of, say, a doctor only proves how far removed this part of the social sciences is from scientific habits of mind." Morality and economic utility generally go hand in hand. Contrary to Alexander Hamilton, who spoke for a small but powerful clique of New York and Philadelphia public creditors, the national debt is not a "national blessing." T
I have to get ready for the Redskin game, here's the rest of it.  I'll get back to this.  I think.   For the record.  I want to talk about what Clint Eastwood said too.

REP Jim Moron: We Din't Need No Stinking Debt Limit

In a Flash! They'd Be Free!

Jim Moron

Reps. Jim Moran (D-Va.) and Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) spoke at a press conference in Washington on Sept. 14, 2011 to announce legislation to abolish the debt ceiling. (CNSNews.com/Penny Starr)

“The debt limit is an unnecessary and counterproductive legislative hurdle that has proved to be both an ineffective means of controlling deficits and a danger to this country’s standing in the financial markets,” Moran said.

The debt limit “poses a serious, recurring threat to the full faith and credit of the United States of America,” Moran said. He called it a “legislative relic” that has been “weaponized” by Republicans for political reasons.

Well, that was easy.
