Mitt's Choice

                      —   you berks.

“
From  the Drudge linked story (to unreliable Politico) about Obama losing ground to Romney in Ohio

Obama is clinging to his lead based on his strength with three demographic groups: black voters, young voters and women. Obama leads among African-Americans 93 percent to 6 percent, and he beats Romney among young voters 54 percent to 36 percent. Women support Obama over Romney 52 percent to 41 percent.

The problem Romney faces then, with young voters, will be to identify with them.  Here are two who commented to the Politico article.

Show me a poll where Romney is leading. Despite all you say, Americans know Romney is not on their side. It's not struggling when you're ahead...Romney is struggling to stay relevant. What is he for? I don't know either...and neither do the American people.

We know you're better off than you were four years ago, so why would you not be for Obama?

Res Ipsa Loquitur
Ryan Stewart · Top Commenter · Florida Atlantic University
As Gary and the right wing struggle to tell themselves what they want to hear, and reinforce all of the projection based drivel that keeps them deluded, the Romney campaign continues to hide, letting the Obama campaign define him.

Gary and the right continue to blather on, repeating the cable news drivel they were fed on the economy, and ignoring the independent economic analysis that shows the opposite.

People like Gary bought into all of the 2008 campaign projections, and never quite let them go. They always believed Obama was not up to the job, and have spent the last four years ignoring reality to reinforce their political house of cards.

Time for people like Gary to drop his spoon fed delusions, and study up.

It's clear then.  Romney must drive a railroad spike through his brain, and hope for the best if he's to have any chance of creating a dialog with that lot.

“

Tom Donilon- Mole in thr Whitehouse

It suggests that Thomas Donilon, the national security adviser, is a likely source in The Times reporting, considering he is “the commenter of record on events." Read more:

The book [The Amateur]  also describes a rivalry between Jones and his deputy Tom Donilon, who currently serves as National Security Adviser. Donilon, a longtime Democratic operative, made derogatory remarks about military commanders in Iraq and Afghanistan, the book says. Klein quotes Jones as once telling Donilon, “You have no credibility with the military.”

“When he (Jones) went into the Oval Office, he was usually accompanied by a phalanx of aides, including three political operatives who had played roles in Obama’s 2008 campaign,” Klein writes. “Jones’s chief of staff Mark Lippert; his deputy Tom Donilon, who had coached Obama for his debates against John McCain; and Dennis McDonough, the director of strategic communications. At times this group was expanded to include Hillary Clinton, Valarie Jarrett, David Axelrod, Rahm Emanuel, and on rare occasions, Michelle Obama.”

Another book, “Obama’s Wars” by Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward, released in 2010, also discussed the conflict between Jones and Obama’s political team.

Woodward’s book says that Jones saw the political team “as major obstacles to developing and deciding on a coherent policy.” Woodward identifies the group as including then-White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, top adviser David Axelrod, and then-press secretary Robert Gibbs. “He (Jones) privately called them ‘the water bugs,’ the ‘Politburo,’ the ‘Mafia,’ or the ‘campaign set.’”

“There are too many senior aides around the president,” Jones is quoted as saying in the Woodward book. “‘They’re likely water bugs. They flit around. Rahm gets an idea at 10 a.m., a briefing by 4 p.m., and I will say ‘no’ because the work can’t be done in a day. The water bugs did not understand war or foreign relations, Jones felt.”
[ clipped from  Book Describes Rift Between Obama’s Nat’l Security Adviser and His Political Team: ‘Water Bugs’]

While I was reading The Amateur, questions about WH  security leaks were raging.  Two people I knew little about- Donilon and Samantha Power, screamed out "IT'S US!  as I read about them. Here's Power. I think this shows how pliable our nincompoop-in-chief is,  in the hands of the experienced hard core leftists he feels so comfortable with.  Too bad Power didn't suggest immolation while wearing a saffron robe instead of the bow.

“ .When it came to foreign affairs, no one had a more profound influence on Obama than Samantha Power, [a Harvard professor]who burst upon the scene in 2003 with her book , A Problem in Hell, which indicted America and other democracies for being "bystanders to genocide."

Samanta Power- Hates America
Obama made her a member and then appointed her to the National Council as special assistant to the president.

"US foreign policy has to be rethought," Power argued. "It needs not tweaking but overhauling ...Instituting a doctrine of mea culpa would enhance our credibility by showing American decision makers do not endorse the sins of their predecessors."

Power's answer to her own question was clear:she wanted Obama to "get down on one knee" and seek pardon for the sins of American Foreign policy."

I don't know where this e-mail originated, but it took some money to purchase this, paint it & haul it from Montana to Alabama . A friend saw this on I-65 in Birmingham AL a couple of weeks ago. The truck has Montana license tag and they pulled alongside of it and gave the driver a big thumbs up. He acknowledged with a thumbs up.
Loved it! -

How serendipitous is this!  What with the Donk announcement that they're canceling the  Speedway Event at Charlotte Convention.  Because they're broke!  I would not be at all surprised to learn that this Obama pace car was in fact built for that occasion.  I loved it too, Tom.  Thanks.

And ... the people around him ..., they’re little kids with propellers on their heads ... Their idea of running a campaign is a virtual universe of sending e-mails around to people. ...

I don‘t have a sense that he’s ever had a meeting. I hear stories that you will not believe. “

        News From the Front

Rotting AF1

I have a computer on order, but other than an acknowledgment from Woot, I have nothing.  No shipping date or tracking number.   I think I made a mistake in taking the $5 shipping option instead of paying for FedEX.  At any rate, I have now crashed (permanently it seems) Windows "Safe Mode," from which I have so happily been operating.  This comes via my tiny Acer  notebook, with it's tiny screen, and it's tiny keypad, and its tiny  clock speed.  But, that's not what I wanted to say.

This is.  Microsoft are the dumbest canker blossoms on Earth.  Have to be,  I've been playing the game.  Trying to sort things by  following their instructions.  But damned near every thing they tell me to run results in

"This Program will not run in safe mode."

I'm not making that up.  Like the "System Restore Readiness Tool." After much formality,  like  proving I had a valid Windows license and a Green Card, etc., by running a program and sending them the code it generated, I was able to downloaded it.   The readiness tool instructed that I delete all Windows updates from the period I was having trouble.  Okay, that was easy.  Next I was to stop the system from reiinstalling the updates (link to appropriate page provided) by toggeling auto updates to "NO.".  Guess what?  That's right, "You cannot use this function in safe mode.

Just now, when I rebooted Windows (in safe mode), this message:  "Installing updates, do not turn off the computer."  Shit.  It got to "30% Complete" and hung.  For 20 seconds.  Then -- Blue Screen, and I STG I heard laughter coming from the speakers. !

I don't expect anyone to read this (except for the Appoles who can  smell the scent of wounded  PC from China.  Go ahead, I can take it, ya bastids.

This is catharsis.  Plus, I've been doing this blog for 10 years, and my guess is that I have accunmulated 1000 posts on one of my PCs going belly up. That collection would make  a nice coffee table book for Apple enthusiasts.

I wanted a picture so I borrowd this from Doug because I admired it, and it was free,

9th US Court reversed on the meat of Arizona Immo Law!  USA UAS USA
The upshot of the SB1070 ruling is that, for now, Arizona can apply the "check your papers" provision.  And the Court's opinion is a guide to the State on how to apply that provision without being invalidated.

“

Here's the second and only other opinion in Arizona.
10:16
Amy Howe:
Justice Kennedy announces.
10:16
Amy Howe:
The Ninth Circuit is reversed in part and affirmed in part. Justice Kagan does not participate.
10:17
Amy Howe:
The Court rules that Section 3, 5, and 6 are preempted.
10:17
Tom:
Most of the key provisions of SB1070 (3 of 4) are invalidated.  One provision is held not to be proved preempted; it must be construed.
10:18
Amy Howe:
It was improper for the lower courts to enjoin Section 2(B), which requires police officers to check the legal status of anyone arrested for any crime before they can be released.
10:19
Kali:

We will have more substanative analysis of the decision in Arizona v. US from Lyle later this morning or early this afternoon. We are also looking forward to guest analysis on the decision from Marc Miller and Jack Chin from Univ. of Arizona and UC Davis law schools, respectively, Lucas Guttentag of Yale & Stanford, Jay Sekulow from the ACLJ, Peter Spiro at Temple, John Eastman at Chapman, Rich Samp at the Washington Legal Foundation, and Kevin Johnson, also at UC Davis. Tune back in for their posts.

10:19
Tom:
The provision that the Court says is not yet preempted is the "check your papers" provision that commands officers to check immigration status.
10:20
Amy Howe:
The opinion also says that today's ruling does not foreclose other preemption and constitutional challenges to the law.
10:20
Tom:
The court says that it is not clear whether application of this provision will interfere with immigration law.
10:20
Amy Howe:
There are ongoing proceedings on Section 2(B) and whether it involves racial profiling; that issue was NOT before the Court today.
10:20
Kali:
Here's a link to the opinion in Arizona v. US: http://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/11pdf/11-182b5e1.pdf
10:21
Tom:

Justice Scalia would uphold the Arizona statute in toto.

10:21
Amy Howe:
Justice Kennedy is still reciting from the opinion.
10:23
Amy Howe:
We do not expect any additional opinions today, so NO health care today.
10:23
Amy Howe:
For our readers who are not lawyers, "preempted" means "trumped," in essence.
10:24
Tom:
We should have word for you on what other day(s) the Court is going to issue opnioins soon.

Obamacare Day of Reckoning

Our Real Legislature

Res Ipsa Loquitur

Res Ipsa LoquiturDon't forget to turn on SCOTUS Blog if you want to watch a live execution.  I mean, our country's fate, as determined by the 9 guys in robes.

The best case scenario, IMO, is the court throws out the entire Obamacare law in language so narrowly defined that Medicare is also thrown out.  Chance of that happening is about less than 0.  At a minimum then, the personal mandate must be stricken, meaning the government cannot force people to purchase heath insurance.

The odd thing,  to me,  is that while better than two-thirds of us hate Obamacare, and want it thrown out, polls indicate that only 19% want the government to then leave health care as it is.  With 4% undecided, 77% want a new bill enacted. If they were asked what they want in a health care bill, what would they answer?  We already have Medicare and Medicaid, so what's left?  The answer, I'm afraid, would be Obamacare without any opt-in at all.  Obamacare for free, for everyone.  Just do it.  It's who we've become.

The godfather of global warming lowers the boom on climate change hysteria

Raja,

Thought you could use a bit of humor about now.  This guy, 92, was in at the start of the watermelon movement.  Now, in his old age, he tells us it’s all bullshit.  The climate scientists are folks with political science degrees, and they are afraid of losing their grant money.  So we all have to suffer through the global warming hoax from them.

Res Ipsa Loquitur
James Lovelock

“ Two months ago, James Lovelock, the godfather of global warming, gave a startling interview to msnbc.com in which he acknowledged he had been unduly “alarmist” about climate change.

The implications were extraordinary.

"Lovelock’s invention of the electron capture detector in 1957 first enabled scientists to measure CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) and other pollutants in the atmosphere, leading, in many ways, to the birth of the modern environmental movement."

Which is how stuff happens. Man finds a toy that let's them see small things for the first time and react:  "There's fecal matter in the ocean!"   And this, by and large, is what science is.  Well, coupled with government grants, it is.

“ ... the problem is we don’t know what the climate is doing. We thought we knew 20 years ago.” Now, Lovelock has given a follow-up interview to the UK’s Guardian newspaper in which he delivers more bombshells sure to anger the global green movement, which for years worshipped his Gaia theory and apocalyptic predictions that billions would die from man-made climate change by the end of this century.

Lovelock still believes anthropogenic global warming is occurring and that mankind must lower its greenhouse gas emissions, but says it’s now clear the doomsday predictions, including his own (and Al Gore’s) were incorrect.

Why?  He admits previous AGW predictions haven't panned out? Despite "blasting greens for treating global warming like a religion," he's sounding rather doctrinaire to me.  Still, he says things here that have the Green Nuts going more nuts, and that's a good thing.

In the world of competitive brewing, it isn’t excessive — it’s essential. And the 39-year-old Centreville resident is one of the best in the world.

Vince Iatesta, owner of Ceremony Coffee, was pleased with the showing. “It’s a great personal accomplishment,” he said. “I’m proud he represents Ceremony.... He’s a master.”

For both the U.S. and the world competitions, Sprenger selected a special Colombian variety of coffee called Geisha from the farm of Cerro Azul. It costs $34 per half-pound and is roasted to order at Ceremony.

Iatesta accompanied Sprenger to Vienna and served as his coach, offering advice as well as helping with practice and preparation. To get some idea of the preciseness involved, both men removed a small amount of chaff from each bean before grinding, just on the off chance it could add a hint of bitterness to the brew.

How About A Nice Hollywood Lecture?

 Emily Mortimer's natural venue

Congress calls actresses to testify about farm issues— because they played farmers in a movie.  A nation learns what good government is by watching an uber left-wing television series West Wing.  Now, the New York Times touts another fantasy, ‘Newsroom,’ from HBO (automatic for " left-wing") as the model  failing CNN might adopt. Huh?  I rather think that the  CNN and MSNBC amalgam were models for the HBO fantasy.  Salon  interviewed Rachel Maddow, I mean Emily Mortimer, who plays  the Maddow character in Newsroom.

“ .Americans are dangerously uninformed
"The Newsroom's" Emily Mortimer calls the Tea Party a "lunatic fringe," and says Americans fall too easily for lies

[...]

Q. Are you as troubled by America’s news culture as Sorkin seems to be?

A. I can remember when Bush got in for the second time, just feeling like so much of the problem about the way that politics go here is that people are improperly informed. That they didn’t know that they had been lied to, or they didn’t understand exactly to what extent they had been, and they still thought that there were weapons of mass destruction

Drew (from Moonbattery) had earlier sang its praises, so maybe not.

Years ago, I think it was SondraK who observed, "I don't know anyone who has more problems with their computer than you, and it's all because you keep installing software you don't need."  I didn't listen then, and I prolly won't now, because I like to create crisis in my life, or so it seems.
