Hearing Aid Surprise

What? Huh?
Res Ipsa Loquitor

A few weeks ago I acceded to longstanding family wishes and got hearing aids .  I looked into them 5 years ago, but the minimum I could get away with spending was a few $thousand.  The ones I wanted - the ones worn by my Otolaryngologist, cost about $6000!  That's when I got the TV Ears (Later to be replaced with Sennheisers*).  That solved my television problem.   Still I could only understand MoSup at certain times, ahem, and the din of crowd noise (like when the family was assembled) was unintelligible.

Srsly, I couldn't hear birds chirping, or any high frequencies for that matter.  That included certain timer alarms, engine sounds, and MoSup's screams of delight.   Anyway, I got to thinking,

What happened to dead people's hearing aids?  Did they just throw them put like store bought teeth?  I looked on e-bay, and horry clap! After a very short and perfunctory scan of the lot, I placed a ceiling bid of $250 on the above (I won for $202.50).

The description noted that they could be reprogrammed to fit my audiology profile, and many, I forgot whether these were included, could be resized.  They didn't work,  so I sent them back to Arizona.  I was going to ask for a refund, but a day later they came back with an apology.  He had included the wrong batteries, and sent 6 packs of the right ones as contrition.

Res Ipsa LoquitorNot only do they work, but they fit my ears!  And I can use them with a telephone— and my earphones!   No feed back squeal.

 If I turn the volume up, I can here conversations in the sun room, on the other side of the house.  Remember those television ads for those cheap hearing aids, where the guy hears women saying "What a stud Rodge is?"  I don't here that.    Wait - *smacks head*;  these are family talking!  No wonder.

Anyway, it is something of a crap shoot perhaps, but if you, or someone you know is driving everyone crazy by making people repeat everything, this is a real option.  Also - I can get along quite nicely wearing just one.

You're welcome.

BUY Sennheisers * - It's been one year sinse I replaced TV Ears with these, and I rate them as one ot my top tier purchases ever.  I am still using the original (2 AAA)  batteries.  And I still routinely fall asleep watching ROKU, so they're on all night.  Hearing quality is sensational.  With my hearing aids, I can hear high frequencies that the phone s alone missed (which was not a great loss.) A product.

PARMA, Ohio — At an unscheduled stop at Ziggy’s Pub and Restaurant, an Amherst, Ohio bar, President Barack Obama suggested that the channel be changed when he was made aware that televisions were showing Fox News.

Obama and Fox News have gone to war frequently during his three and a half years in office — most recently over a sharply negative teaser shown on Fox and Friends that the White House took as a Fox News-sponsored attack ad on the president.

The Obama Administration frequently used the network as a proxy punching bag for its Republican opponents in the early years of his presidency. Fox's personalities, led by Glenn Beck, fired back with more and more incendiary comments, but a somewhat delicate balanced was reached after the 2010 election in which both sides toned down their rhetoric. The FBI Could Cut Your Internet Access in TWO Days
(Here’s How to Prevent It)

“ WASHINGTON (The Blaze/AP) — For months now, the FBI has been warning people that a blackout of their access to the Internet could be coming.  The warnings about the Internet problem have been splashed across Facebook and Google, and Internet service providers have sent notices as well.

Res Ipsa LoquitorBut tens of thousands of Americans may still lose their Internet service Monday unless they do a quick check of their computers for malware that could have taken over their machines more than a year ago.

The Blaze has covered the story a couple times, first stating the FBI would shut off Internet access to computers still infected as of March and later reported the extension the clean-up period until July 9.

HERE'S THE KEYS TO MY LIFE - UR WELCOME
To check whether a computer is infected, users can visit a website run by the group brought in by the FBI: http://www.dcwg.org. This link also provides resources for how to “disinfect”  your computer should the malware be found on it. As the Blaze has reported before, the FBI has said fixing the problem will be much harder once your access to the Internet is cut off.

Romney's Tax Confusion
The candidate's response on the Obama Care mandate reveals larger campaign problems

Res Ipsa Loquitor  Res Ipsa Loquitor

“ Eric Fehrnstrom, a top Romney adviser, said in a television appearance that a financial fee at the heart of Mr Obama's healthcare legislation was a "penalty", not a "tax". The distinction has implications for Republicans trying to hammer the White House for imposing a tax on the middle class. This line of attack arose from Chief Justice John Roberts' tiebreaking decision last week that found the law to be constitutional because the fee was a tax, not a penalty. [Romney under fire from conservatives]
Res Ipsa Loquitor

In a stroke, the Romney campaign contradicted Republicans throughout the country who had used the Chief Justice's opinion to declare accurately that Mr. Obama had raised taxes on the middle class. Three-quarters of those who will pay the mandate tax will make less than $120,000 a year, according to the Congressional Budget Office. The Romney high command has muddied the tax issue in a way that will help Mr. Obama's claims that he is merely taxing rich folks like Mr. Romney. And it has made it that much harder for Republicans to again turn ObamaCare into the winning issue it was in 2010. [Romney's Tax Confusion]

One of the workers, called in from Texas, explained that "we're no allowed to go to a new site unless accompanied by a BG&E worker.  They're hard to come by."

COMPARE & SAVE

Rediscovering Our Greatness
“ Fleming: What Life Was Like in 1776
Americans had the highest per capita income in the civilized world, paid the lowest taxes—and were determined to keep it that way.

[...] In the northern colonies, according to historical research, the top 10% of the population owned about 45% of the wealth. In some parts of the South, 10% owned 75% of the wealth. But unlike most other countries, America in 1776 had a thriving middle class. Well-to-do farmers shipped tons of corn and wheat and rice to the West Indies and Europe, using the profits to send their children to private schools and buy their wives expensive gowns and carriages. Artisans—tailors, carpenters and other skilled workmen—also prospered, as did shop owners who dealt in a variety of goods. Benjamin Franklin credited his shrewd wife, Deborah, with laying the foundation of their wealth with her tradeswoman's skills.

Several hundred miles inland was the "back country," and at the time of the Revolution, not many people went there by choice. Most were poor and landless—younger sons, for example, whose older brothers had inherited the family's property. Life on the outskirts of civilization was hard and often violent. Morals on the Western frontier were often much more relaxed than they were in the civilized East. [continue]

In summation: Things were pretty much like they were until, oh, lets say FDR, LBJ, WJC, and Barry Soetoro.  Damned good on the freedom front. Worth fighting for.

Obama & Napolitano: ‘Liberty Lovers’ Are Terrorists

A new study funded by the Department of Homeland Security characterizes Americans who are “suspicious of centralized federal authority,” and “reverent of individual liberty” as “extreme right-wing” terrorists.

- Americans who believe their “way of life” is under attack;

- Americans who are “fiercely nationalistic (as opposed to universal and international in orientation)”;

- People who consider themselves “anti-global” (presumably those who are wary of the loss of American sovereignty);

- Americans who are “suspicious of centralized federal authority”;

- Americans who are “reverent of individual liberty”;

- People who “believe in conspiracy theories that involve grave threat to national sovereignty and/or personal liberty.”

None of this is news to you.  Which is why we, unlike 1917 Russians, or 1932 Germans, have a good chance of turning things around.

Thank you, SCOTUS. This Obamacare ruling fires up the troops as America’s eyes are opened! Thank God.

SCOTUS now rules this is a tax? Well, Congress has the ability to create taxes – and also has the ability to rescind them. Upon their return from the July recess, Congress should act immediately to repeal this terrible new tax on the American people, and indeed they must repeal all of Obamacare. This is the most brazen and sweeping new tax and government overreach imposed on us. We the People did not ask for this tax, we do not want this tax, and we can’t afford this tax. This is not an answer to America’s health care challenges.

It’s time, again, for patriotic Americans to rise up to protest this obvious infringement on our economic and personal freedom. November is just around the corner. Today, the Supreme Court issued their ruling on Obamacare. In November, We the People will issue ours.

On July 1st, the much hated Carbon Tax was implemented in Australia. Given that PM Gillard made a promise for no Carbon Tax on video at the beginning of her term in August 2010, then broke that promise, followed by a devil may care attitude, I can’t imagine anything that would enrage Australians as much as this.Since there is so much coverage on this epic failure of the Gillard government, I thought I’d create a collage of coverage here. Follow the links to the appropriate essays and news articles. There’s also a speech at the end. First up is Jo Nova:

Australians will pay $77 million per week in carbon taxes, while Europe with the 30 most green countries pays just one third of that, according to the Mineral Council of Australia. (Anthony Watts, continued)

Rewind to Clinton's impeachment trial in the House.  It is widely believed that Hillary gave her purloined raw FBI files on congressional Republicans  to pornographer Larry Flynt,  who used them to blackmail Republican House members, and most likely Senators (who failed to convict him).  We know that at least three House Republicans, Livingstone, Hyde and Barr refused to submit,  and had past marital infidelities  exposed.

Don't think for a minute that this thug  administration would  not use the same tactics, as I believe they did.   Roberts was found wanting.

I am surprised by the 7-2 decision:  I woulda guessed 5-4.  There have been a few more recent rulings the same way,where I was surprised over the libtard vote.  I can't help but worry that there is a quid pro quo at work here — by the liberal justices to gain the deciding vote in Obamacare (which looks like Monday).
I know, silly.

After posting, I felt stupid because I know that justices vote immediately after the oral arguments are finished, so, I thought, what a stupid thing to say. My stupidity had to do with not realizing a justice could change at the last minute.

Since the iPad came with zero  written directions, she asked me to  figure out how to get out of the "airplane mode" she was stuck in, and hook her up to my wireless.  In the process of learning how to do all this (first one I'd held in my grubby little hands) I became envious.  There was a day when I'd have been first on the block to own one, but those days are gone.  Right now I just want a fricken toaster that will toast a bagel in less than 3 minutes, and the muscles to chop wood at a decent rate.

Here's a random experience from the dark time..  For the first time in ages I listed to C-Span radio on my short wave.  WTF  happened to that once fine service.  Every time I tuned in there was some democrat  blabbing on as though not a person in the world would call in and spank them with facts.  I guess, because none did.  Not once.  Oh, there were callers, but all more radical then the guest, and that's something when you consider the two that drove me the most insane were some Jersey Rep. named Rob Andrews??, and then Henry Waxman. I had to leave.

Here's my quandary.  I believe acts committed in the heart and mind carry the metaphysical weight of being actually committed.  I am then a mass murderer several times over this weekend.  I found comfort in sending Stalin-like numbers straight to hell.  I'm hoping that by confessing here,  I will get some credit for contrition on the Big Day.  Like, I meant it in the good way.

To answer a follow-on question about the Plain English explanation, yes, there is also the so-called Medicaid coercion issue -- whether Congress can require the states to comply with the law's new requirements for eligibility for Medicaid or risk losing all of their funding for Medicaid. But the main issue that most people are focusing on is the mandate.

  1. SCOTUS strikes down individual mandate in a 5-4 decision, but keeps the full law pending it’s actual enforcement, a la Arizona. It’s likely the Attorneys general only have the capacity to sue on the single issue of state-based expenditures.
  2. John Roberts writes, because that’s what John Roberts does. And he’s a smarty pants, and he hasn’t managed to eek out an opinion since May.
  3. Scalia concurs, but writes his own lengthy opinion, determining that the whole thing should be trashed on Commerce Clause grounds, despite having the exact opposite opinion in Gonzalez v. California.
  4. Ginsberg writes the dissent on paper that has been caressed by Breyer’s tears. Sotomayor and Kagan concur.
[...]

"In addition, I hope, if the mandate goes down,"
  • someone on television cries. My guess is Ed Schultz, but I’d be willing to extend that guess to Andrew Sullivan, though that’s more of an outside bet.
