Academe quits me “ He doesn't come right out and say it, but he alludes to it.  Too many universities traded out classic humanities for leftist pablum which blames white males for every ailment that a leftist can imagine.  Via Ron First SeMetzger Academe quits me Tomorrow I will step into a classroom to begin the last semester of a 24-year teaching career. Don’t get me wrong. I am not retiring. I am not “burned out.” The truth is rather more banal. Ohio State University will not be renewing my three-year contract when it expires in the spring. The problem is tenure: with another three-year contract, I would become eligible for tenure. In an era of tight budgets, there is neither money nor place for a 61-year-old white male professor who has never really fit in nor tried very hard to. (Leave aside my heterodox politics and hard-to-credit publication record.) My feelings are like glue that will not set. The pieces fall apart in my hands. This essay is not a contribution to the I-Quit-Academe genre. (A more accurate title in my case would be Academe Quits Me.) Although I have become uncomfortably aware that I am out of step with the purposeful march of the 21st-century university (or maybe I just never adjusted to Ohio State), gladly would I have learned and gladly continued to teach for as long as my students would have had me. The decision, though, was not my students’ to make. And I’m not at all sure that a majority would have voted to keep me around, even if they had been polled. My salary may not be large (a rounding error above the median income for white families in the U.S.), but the university can offer part-time work to three desperate adjuncts for what it pays me. A lifetime of learning has never been cost-effective, and in today’s university—at least on the side of campus where the humanities are badly housed—no other criterion is thinkable. So we're standing, talking, in the kitchen just now,  and 7 overhead lights go off.  Lights on the other circuit remain on.  WTF?  I walk  five feet and flip the switch, and the lights are back on.  How did the switch get turned off?  I was standing five feet away; it was in plain site. EPA DECLARES WAR ON USA

“ EPA  gives Wyoming town to Indian tribes Riverton Massacre Obama’s EPA has declared that the city of Riverton, Wyoming, with over 10,000 people is no longer part of the United States and have given it to the Indians.  In essence, all Americans living in Riverton are no longer living in the United States and are not eligible for state or federal services.  They can also be tossed off land they bought and paid for since their deeds do not have to be recognized by the Indians.  The Indians have argued for years that they should get full ownership of 1 million more acres of land because it should be part of their reservation. The problem is that congress decided the borders in legislation passed in 1905.  If this ruling is allowed to stand, the EPA can arbitrarily take land away from its owners and give it to anyone they choose to.  The governor of Wyoming, Matt Mead is threatening to refuse to recognize the EPA’a authority.  [Duh?] [Story] Once again, an outrage perped on us by the increasingly brazen-about-it Obama Administration;  so bizarre as to demand disbelief. And once again, I will conclude that the goal of this, many think  illegitimate  government, is to incite insurrection, and thus provide "justification" for suspending the constitution and turning everything over to the creepily named Dept. Homeland Security.  In order for them to get away with this, they must first move to neuter the military command structure that would be prone to resist, and at the same time have an adequately formed armed force to maintain the coup.  If Americans continue to act as irresponsibly as they have recently, by going along with the herd, and ignoring glaring acts of preparation, e.g.,  buying billions of rounds of ammunition,and arming government agencies  (EPA Swat Team!?!) , then so be it.  I've had my day in the sun.  If they want to fight, I'll be with them to best of my (substantial) abilities to fire a very tight group, and without fear for my own life.   USA. * So where's the pictures?  Retweet   Favorite  PowWeb ‏@PowWeb2h We are currently experiencing an issue in our data center. I have no idea what happened ... earlier I did  a trial post from my iPad, using the Blogger App.  The next post I tried took several times (and hours) to post, and when it did all previous posts disappeared from the stream, even though they are still viewable in the archive.  I contacted Blogger (Google) and hopefully they'll  have an answer.  If not, then the world will have lost nothing of real value.  Lalalala
