Three on a match

Three on a Match

"... that's great for you and me"
Res Ipsa Loquitor

Annette Funicello:
was the Olsen Twins or Emma Watson of my generation.  The Mousketeer that every pre (and post) pubescent boy was in love with.   CNN says she "embodied an all-American ideal of wholesome, perky, spunky mid-'60s sexuality."  Especially the spunky part.  There was no mystery about why we loved her; we kids discussed it daily.  She had the best, (and with Darlene, only) Mouske-knockers.

Once when Annette was in Baltimore for something or other, when I was 15, I screwed up all my courage and called the hotel she was staying at according to the newspaper.  I wanted to have a date with her.  I figured that she might accept because it would be good publicity to be seen with common boy, and then would of course fall in love with me.  The hotel said there was no Annette Funicello registered there, by way of a put-out.  Too bad, I could have been her Spin Evans, the only guy good enough for her, by our vote. Frankie Avalon was a douche. .

Anyway, she hung in there one hell of a long time for someone with MS. There was never any scandal in her life, and despite having been married twice and having three children, Annette died a virgin. RIP.

"The Lady's not for turning"
Mrs Thatcher.  When the Democrat mantra was "Republicans  are afraid of strong women, we had the  Mrs. Thatcher and Jeane Kirkpatrick. rejoinder:

"You fools. We're not afraid of strong women. We're afraid of incompetent  nincompoops like Geraldine Ferraro and  Patricia Schroeder!"

And it was true.  On his Top Gear Race from London to Oslo, Jeremy Clarkson had with him, in order to keep him alert,  a CD of  her greatest speeches.  Oddly, I have heard most of them from watching C-Span's House of Commons Q&A.  That's how much I thought of her,

ROGER EBERT

Did Not Win a Golden Globe

I used to like watching "At The Movies" with Siskel and Ebert.   Every year I bought "Roger Ebert's Movie Yearbook" as stocking stuffer  for friends who enjoyed the cinema.  Watching  "If We Picked The Winners" pre Oscar show was an event (here's one from 1989).

Around 1992 (it seems) the blush went off the Ebert rose for me.  It seemed to me that he had taken to considering whether a film professed proper social (political) values  in his revues. After Gene Siskel died (the better of the two in my opinion) Ebert went off the rails completely. When in 2006 he gave his imprimatur to a film based on President Bush's  assassination,  I responded with my own film.

 I stand by it.

Res Ipsa Loquitor

We had the wife's family here for the past four days.  While working up the menus I decided to step up the coffee for them,  and bought a 12 ounce bag of Seattle's Finest because it was, at $9.79,  the cheapest premium blend Giant carried..

God help me. I'm not a coffee snob, and we've been happy with Wal-Mart coffee—I buy it by the case, home delivered—but that there Seattle coffee is so noticeably better that I can't go home again.  The good news is that WalMart sells it for $6 the bag delivered.  I ordered 6 bags (and some paper towels) so there was no tax or freight.  What the hell,  we only use one ounce of coffee a day (8 cups), so one bag will last—let's call it two weeks—so six bags will last—lets call it 3 months.  Just 40¢ a day.  Piece of cake.

On the topic of guest food, I made spare ribs Saturday.  Remember that oven pulled pork recipe?  Well I prepared my 4 slabs of ribs the same exact way.  Brined, slathered, rubbed and baked in foil sealed pans.  The only concession I made for the lighter mass was to bake @ 275° for about 45 minutes, then @300° for about 45 minutes, and then 325° for one hour.  But wait!  When I took the foil off and tasted the sauce all I could taste was pepper!  WTF?  Maye I screwed up the dry rub?  I rubbed a handful of brown sugar on each slab and let them crust up for an hour at 275° (while watching to make sure the sugar didn't burn).  For about the last 10 minutes I turned the heat up to 500°.

I anticipated that the whole lot would be a bust, but no!  In fact, they were hands-down the best ribs I've ever made, maybe ever had!-and that was the table's  consensus too. I mean, perfect.  Not quite falling off the bone, and firm enough that when you bit into them the bite mark remained. A sign of perfection.

FWIW, I also made this recipe  for pork and bean.  Result was much better than I anticipated.  Quite wonderful in fact,  despite using only about 12 ounces of  pork roast that I had in the freezer.

Damn I miss Saturday Terp  basketball.

If you were wondering if there is a “legitimate” reason to visit the Soylent Siberia website, the chart below is such a reason.  I saw this chart in its small version, then clicked to embiggenify, and found the diagram below.  Talk about damning evidence of the relationship between government and the “green energy” industry.  He got it from Hauntingthelibrary: (Note, if Soylent Siberia has this posted it's well hidden amongst the plethora of featured Labia majora et minora pudendi-a place where the most intrepid explorer will have trouble navigating. Arrest James Hansen

GREEN CRAP

"We Stand By It as a Theatrical Work"

James Hansen, Al Gore's NASA Climate Whore
“ Raja,

Hansen is about to retire, then sue the government for lack of effort in policing industry over man’s effect on climate.  The article calls this ironic, but it’s just the opposite.  Hansen has been pushing the climate change/global warming hoax from within the government.  Now he’ll pursue the hoax for fraudulent gain from the outside.

Res Ipsa LoquitorMaybe he and his fellow zoot suiters will gain a major victory from the government.  Under Obama, the EPA and DOE have been laying down for environmental group suits for years.

The one good that may come of this is that when a non-communist finally becomes president, as eventually one must, there will be NASA people who will point out the confederates of Hansen and his ilk.  We may hope the same happens within EPA and DOE.

Skoonj

Indeed, in 2007 Hansen faced open revolt by NASA colleagues who disagreed with his climate idiocy. Nobody has done more to expose Hansen than Anthony Watt (Watts Up With That?).   If Hansen does sue the gummint "for ;lack of effort," I would be willing to join in a counter-suit charging Hansen with taking bribes from Al Gore and George Soros to advance the AGW fraud for the purpose of allowing Democrats to overthrow (defacto) the US Constitution, specifically the Fifth Amendment, and more seriously (treason) laying the groundwork for giving the UN dominion over us.  Actually, that suit ought be  fought in federal criminal court where Hansen, Mr. Hockey Stick, and other Goreons could receive the death penalty.  It's what George Washington would want.

“ Res Ipsa Loquitor Scientists have created the smallest petrol engine in the world ( less than a centimeter long not even half an inch ), small enough to power a watch or any small gadget.
  • The mini-motor, which runs for two years on a single squirt of lighter fuel, is set to revolutionize world technology.
  • It generates 700 times more energy than a conventional battery. It could be used to operate laptops and mobile phones for months doing away  with the need for charging.
  • Experts believe it could be phasing out batteries in such items within just six years.
  • The engine, minute enough to be balanced on a fingertip, has been produced by engineers at the University of Birmingham
  • Al Gore cries havoc! and says he's committed to eliminating the threat posed by this internal combustion engine"

Current events lead me to speculate on how the state will use this technology to further intrude on our privacy.  Ironic isn't it, that the party of abortion rests its argument on the "right to privacy," and only in that one instance?

Fred was watching  a couple of men working along the roadside. One man would dig a hole two or three feet deep and then move on.

The other man came along behind him and filled in the hole. While one was digging a new hole, the other was 25 feet behind filling in the hole.

The men worked right past Fred and went on down the road. "I can't stand this,"mumbled Fred,  and headed down the road toward the men.

"Hold it, hold it," he called to the men. "Can you tell me what's going on here with all this digging and refilling?"

"Well, we work for the city and we're just doing our job," one of the men said.

"But one of you is digging a hole and the other fills it up. You're not accomplishing anything. Aren't you wasting the taxpayers' money?"

"You don't understand, mister," one of the men said, leaning on his shovel and wiping his brow. "Normally there's three of us: me, Elmer and Leroy. I dig the hole, Elmer sticks in the tree, and Leroy here puts the dirt back.

Elmer's job's been cut... so now it's just me an' Leroy.

Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO): (April 2, 2013, Denver Post forum)

Democrats, —Democrat women in particular—are clueless about anything having to do with guns.  The stupid part of the equation comes in when they start arguing for new gun law, like Diana DeGette.  Stuck on stupid.

Let me recount how a few years ago Maryland Democrats passed law requiring that gun manufacturers supply the State Police with two spent cartridge cases from every new handgun!  The thinking was that  ejected cartridges found at crime scenes could be cross-matched with the owner.  They included revolvers, which of course don't eject the cartridge.  Hilarity ensued, and no new gun could be sold in Maryland because gun makers wouldn;t go along with all this new expense for a pissant state like Maryland.  The State finally scrapped that law.

Then there's  Obama, who is both ignorant and a liar.[Newtown Shooter Gunned Down 20 Children With 'Fully Automatic Weapon']

Details

Big Brother is watching, and with modern technology, if Big Brother can see it, he can turn it into a giant smoking crater with just the press of a button. Even your secret remote wilderness bunker is no match for today’s military drones. In partnership with Tacnition Ammo, Lucky Gunner is happy to introduce a new way for you to fight back against the All Seeing Eye with our new anti-drone shotgun loads.

Years of research and development have gone into these highly effective 12 gauge shells that can turn even Joe Biden’s double barrel shotgun into an instant anti-aircraft platform. Specially formulated propellant is capable of launching 9 pellets of depleted uranium rounds up to 1 km straight up into the air. With accurate shot placement, this armor piercing buckshot will disable vital systems on modern military drones. At minimum, the force of impact will disable navigation systems, but in over 60% of our field tests, the drones were incapable of remaining airborne after contact with our Anti-Drone Loads.

NOTE: Drone Loads are intended for entertainment use only and not intended to be used in any manner not in accordance with federal and local laws. Lucky Gunner assumes no responsibility for any illegal activity involving Tacnition Drone Ammo.

FLY STORY

OBAMUNISM, The Party,
The lawsuit that might kill ObamaCare ...
in a lawful nation, anyway

“
Res Ipsa Loquitor

A challenge filed by the Pacific Legal Foundation contends that the Affordable Care Act is unconstitutional because the bill originated in the Senate, not the House. Under the Origination Clause of the Constitution, all bills raising revenue must begin in the House.

The Supreme Court upheld most provisions of the act in June, but Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. took pains in the majority opinion to define Obamacare as a federal tax, not a mandate. That was when the Sacramento, Calif.-based foundation’s attorneys had their “aha” moment.

“The court there quite explicitly says, ‘This is not a law passed under the Commerce Clause; this is just a tax,’” foundation attorney Timothy Sandefur said at a Cato Institute forum on legal challenges to the health care act. “Well, then the Origination Clause ought to apply. The courts should not be out there carving in new exceptions to the Origination Clause.” [FULL]

This is interesting.  I was doing a "Resume Play" on NetFlix (via ROKU) when this message popped up

"Under the terms of your agreement you have exceeded your allowed usage.  Please go to the ROKU menu and try again later."

It quickly disappeared and  I re-clicked TOP GEAR, but it sent me to episode #1, and not #132 which I had been viewing (recently added 2012 TOP GEAR episodes).   The fact that this message was even prepared  indicates that ROKU (or NetFlix?) are preparing to begin charging for view after a a certain monthly threshold is reached. Maybe they were testing a new, yet to be announced system,  and this was prematurely triggered.  If they begin charging I'm gone; there are other options. Anyone else had this experience?

The Yellow Gold of Texas

“
Res Ipsa Loquitor

“The eyes of Texas are upon you” goes the song, but right now those eyes seem to be squarely focused on the financial crisis in Cyprus.

“We don’t want just the certificates. We want our gold. And if you’re the state of Texas, you should be able to get your gold,” said Capriglione.

However, he concedes transporting $1 billion worth of gold bars would be impractical, so he suggests selling the gold and repurchasing it in Texas.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry is supporting a bill that would return the state’s $1 billion in gold reserves currently stored by the Federal Reserve at a vault in New York to the state.

Capriglione said his bill is, “not about putting Texas on its own gold standard, [but instead will] give the state a reputation as being more financially secure in the event of a national or international financial crisis.”

“If we own it,” Perry told Glenn Beck last week, “I will suggest to you that that’s not someone else’s determination whether we can take possession of it back or not.”
  [FULL]

First off, I had no idea that states, at least Texas, have their own gold bullion stash.  Second is the question of whether the actual physical gold still there?  Former Rep. Ron Paul (R TX) tried to get Fort Knox audited, and failed.  Think about that.  A senior U.S. congressman could not get past the Feds to see if our stuff is still there!

Next; the Obamas have Texas and Rick Perry on their short list of people to destroy, now more than ever since Texas reuses "to cave to Obamacare’s call for states to accept Medicaid expansions. "

Finally, as aside, the killing of two prosecutors, in two months, including a district attorney and his wife  gunned down in their home bears watching.  The media have focused on "white supremacists," which is their go-to culprit in any shooting.  .If the prosecutors were from Austin, nobody would care, but this whole thing feels hinky to me.  I'm just saying.

Raja,

Somewhere between the release of the 1984 Band Aid single and Al Gore’s 2006 documentary An Inconvenient Truth, political attention shifted away from such problems. The idea of people (especially old people) dying in their homes from conditions with which we are all familiar now seems relatively boring.

Much political attention is still focused on global warming, and while schemes to help Britain prepare for the cold are being cut, the overseas aid budget is being vastly expanded. Saving elderly British lives has somehow become the least fashionable cause in politics.
[FULL]
Here is a great article from The Telegraph that should get a lot of exposure.  The British people, especially the elderly, are suffering … from cold winters.  They are dying because of government measures against global warming, which are making fuel prices more expensive.  Some people cannot afford the fuel, and must choose between food and warmth.

I think this would be a staple for Soylent Green, whose site was shut down for breaking some rule or another by his provider.  Any idea where he’s hiding out lately?  A new site perhaps?

Back to the story line, a really conservative government would start charging the Sir This and Lord That of the UK with murder, for what they are doing to kill the elderly.  Throw in the Inconvenient Al, who should be forced to answer for his crimes as well.

Res Ipsa LoquitorExtended to the USofA, Geezers are a drain on resources and can't die too soon for political spenders trying to juggle resources.  Illegal immigrants, on the other hand, will be alive and voting for years to come, and paying into the system without draining medical resources to the same extent (most die quickly  from drive-by shootings or Hepatitis C).  In addition, the man-caused climate farce holds the biggest prize of all for people like Democrats—nullification of the Fifth Amendment takings clause, and with it absolute freedom to take whatever the state wants, when they want it.  The Road to Serfdom's terminus.
