Coulter: Super Bowl;Muslin Ban,Loathing Hillary

There isn't a lot the entire country agrees on, anymore. A few generations ago, there was so much that brought Americans together. Everyone read LIFE magazine, listened to Jack Benny on the radio, and then later watched Ed Sullivan together, every single Sunday night. All Americans watched the moon landing, were traumatized when Kennedy was shot and supported the troops.

But today, with a billion cable channels, and specialty magazines on everything from bridal gowns to automatic rifles, and a wildly heterogeneous population, there's not a whole lot that brings us together.

It's pretty much down to the Super Bowl, the Muslim ban, and, as of Tuesday night, loathing Hillary Clinton.  [Ann Coulter; NEW JERSEY MAN SLAYS CHILD]

Cibolo Creek Ranch owner recalls Scalia’s last hours in Texas

"We discovered the judge in bed, a pillow over his head. "

MARFA — A first-time guest to the Cibolo Creek Creek Ranch, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was animated and engaged during dinner Friday night, as one of three dozen invitees to an event that had nothing to do with law or politics, according to the ranch owner.
Just hours later, he would be found dead of apparent natural causes, which media outlets were reporting Sunday was a heart attack.

"We discovered the judge in bed, a pillow over his head. His bed clothes were unwrinkled," said Poindexter.
"He was seated near me and I had a chance to observe him. He was very entertaining. But about 9 p.m. he said, 'it's been a long day and a long week, I want to get some sleep," recalled Houston businessman John Poindexter, who owns the 30,000-acre luxury ranch.

When Poindexter tried to awaken Scalia about 8:30 the next morning, the judge's door was locked and he did not answer. Three hours later, Poindexter returned after an outing, with a friend of Scalia who had come from Washington with him.

"We discovered the judge in bed, a pillow over his head. His bed clothes were unwrinkled," said Poindexter. [FULL]

I'll wait to see how believable Poindexter's inevitable recantation is. Of course the Democrat praetorian guard media who sold us Vince Foster, Ron Brown, Warren Report, TWA 800, Jerry Parks, et al,  are still very much operative.

The incident, which occurred early Wednesday morning, was prompted by a call to the San Diego County Sheriff’s office of a bald white male, wearing a black shirt and jeans and walking across campus carrying a rifle. This resulted in a shelter-in place order for some 400 staff and students going through orientation before the start of the fall session. Rapidly, facility and classmates banded together to barricade doors with tables and chairs, expecting the worst.

The situation resolved itself after 30 minutes when an umbrella-bearing teacher figured out he matched the description of the alleged gunman and surrendered to law enforcement.

Chef Drops Foie Gras From Menu After Vegan Death Threats

Mark Dixon, an award winning chef, posted the Valentine’s Day menu on Facebook in January. For 50 pounds per person, diners could indulge in a specialty tasting menu that included vodka cured salmon and grilled halibut. Also on the menu, foie gras and chicken liver parfait which drew the ire of activists. Soon after the menu was posted, the restaurant was reportedly bombarded with phone calls, threats, and fake reservations.
What your grandparents expected would follow

Angry patrons beat 7 young troublemakers to death after they invaded the Kings Arms at Fleggburgh, attacking them whilst they enjoyed  Valentine's Day dinner.  Chief Constable Morton pronounced it justifiable homicide, and said no charges would be filed  against the patrons.  However parents of the perpetrators would be help responsible for damages, citing a criminal lack of supervision.

Top Gear Redux

House of Cards cost Netflix $100 million for two seasons but Amazon’s deal is truly mind boggling.

The new show will premiere at some point in 2016, it will be produced by Andy Wilman and it will be even more outrageous than anything they ever did on Top Gear. [FULL] (Tip to Tommy Lee Smith)

It was my early understanding that the deal was with NetFlix; Amazon is not good news.  More and more I've found that any series streamed by Amazon  will cost you $$ after the first season, even if you're a Prime subscriber, whereas NetFlix productions are always top notch and free.  That aside, there was no bigger fan of Top Gear than me.  I watched the entire series on NetFlix about five times.  When BBC withdrew the original two or three years, which were for me the best, I lost heart. After 100+ episodes the lads had become a parody of themselves, and I doubt this newest rendition will catch my fancy.  We'll see, but I shan't spend a farthing on any of it.

SCOTUS EKES OUT GOODNESS

Supreme Court Halts Obama’s
Aggressive Climate Agenda

In a major setback to the Obama administration’s climate agenda, the U.S. Supreme Court in a 5-4 vote blocked the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean Power Plan from taking effect until the legal challenges from states and industry groups fully play out.

Twenty-five states, four state agencies and dozens of industry groups challenged the Clean Power Plan, which would require aggressive carbon dioxide cuts from America’s existing power plants. The Supreme Court’s decision reverses a lower court’s decision two weeks ago not to stay the regulation.

The decision is important for states refusing to submit state implementation plans and opposing the Clean Power Plan. If states had to submit plans to meet their respective carbon cut targets, the rule could have taken effect prior to a final court decision. Without the Supreme Court blocking the regulation, the wheels could have already been set in motion to close many of the existing fleet of power plants with little to no hope of re-opening no matter how the legal battle played out.

Another 5-4 decision. Which gets us to thinking.  Suppose a SCOTUS lefty dies tomorrow?  Will the GOP have the balls to keep any Obama nomination off the floor until he's gone?

Well Deserved Catharsis

Apparently, this video was uploaded to YouTube back in 2013, but it’s been making the social media rounds today. If someone tells you it’s a strike against ISIS, don’t buy it.  Given its age, it’s probably not an attack on what was then the J.V. team. It appears to come from Iraq, which would mean it’s probably a run against insurgents in Baghdad, but it could also have come from Afghanistan.

Regardless of its origin, we think you’ll agree that firing on a U.S. chopper is probably not the best decision.

...Although you won’t have long to regret making it. (CFP)

Willy and Lady Astor's Dog

                                                                         STFU Michelle
An American soldier, name of Willy, had just returned from several weeks of intense action on the German front lines. Granted R&R, he was on a very crowded train bound for London. The soldier walked the length of the train, looking for an empty seat, but the only unoccupied seat was directly adjacent to a well-dressed middle-aged lady and was being used by her little dog.

The war weary soldier asked, "Please, ma'am, may I sit in that seat?"

The English woman looked down her nose at the soldier, sniffed and said, "You Americans. You are such a rude class of people. Can't you see my little Fifi is using that seat?"

Willy walked away, determined to find a place to rest, but after another trip down to the end of the train, found himself again facing the woman with the dog. Again he asked, "Please, lady. May I sit there? I'm very tired."  The English woman wrinkled her nose and snorted, "You Americans! Not only are you rude, you are also arrogant. Imagine!"

Willy, saying nothing, then leaned over, picked up the little dog, tossed it out the window of the train, and sat down in the empty seat. The woman shrieked and railed.

An English gentleman sitting across the aisle spoke up, "You know, sir, you Americans do seem to have a penchant for doing the wrong thing. You eat holding the fork in the wrong hand. You drive your cars on the wrong side of the road. And now, sir, you've thrown the wrong bitch out the window."

Aside: I was in flight school with Bill Mauldin's son,  and got to speak with him when he visited Fort Wolters. A very gracious man, which was no surprise.

Obama targets "Right Wing Coke Suckers"

According to a reliable source named "Barney X," Obama will use the executive order to address this new threat by imposing a $12 deposit on plastic soft drink containers larger than .3 liter.  Retailers will be responsible for levying the deposit. In addition, he will order bottle manufacturers to inject plastics with a unique "DNA" that will trace empty bottles back to the retail level so checkout cameras can identify purchasers if necessary.

DAS GOOT

It's been a bad week for What's-His-Name. Former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley dropped out of the Democrat presidential race Monday night after a predictably pitiful showing in Iowa. Res Ipsa LoquiturThen on Thursday, the Fourth Circuit Court struck down his signature "assault weapons" ban, rammed through in Democrats' exploitative gun-grabbing frenzy after Sandy Hook. The Maryland law — a ban he promised to replicate at the national level if elected president — prohibited some semiautomatic rifles and so-called high-capacity magazines (by which they mean standard capacity). But the court concluded those instruments meet the Supreme Court's measure of being "in common use by law-abiding citizens," and the three-judge panel sent the case back to U.S. District Court with instructions to apply "strict scrutiny."

Here's the money quote from the ruling:
"In our view, Maryland law implicates the core protection of the Second Amendment — 'the right of law-abiding responsible citizens to use arms in defense of hearth and home,' District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570, 635 (2008), and we are compelled by Heller and McDonald v. City of Chicago, 561 U.S. 742 (2010), as well as our own precedent in the wake of these decisions, to conclude that the burden is substantial and strict scrutiny is the applicable standard of review for Plaintiffs' Second Amendment claim."
In other words, though other appeals courts have failed to uphold the Constitution, the Fourth Circuit says the Maryland ban clearly violates the Second Amendment, and the lower court needs to figure that out.

Gun writer Bob Owens explains the significance, writing,
"If the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals decision stands (it will almost certainly be appealed) and the courts hold that strict scrutiny should apply to Second Amendment cases as they do every other law restricting constitutional rights, then most of the gun control laws in the United States will eventually fall like dominoes."
