Then and Now

shudder
The bad mommy

The meme that FDR's liberalism saved us from communism is of recent manufacture by his apologists.  It sounds plausible, but I remain unconvinced.  We were then a nation still  too independent to fall for Stalin's crap hook, line, and sinker.  The era's destitute became hoboes (migratory workers);  today they're  bums who won't work for a meal.  We were then a common culture directly descended from 1776; now we're two, and  one is marked by  innercity cultures that subscribe to different laws, create "safe harbors," and  are welfare dependent.  Mommy's people, but this mommy is a cruel bitch..

Liberalism AutopsyThese stories about the end of Liberalism, Keynesian economics, and the Democrat Party that are popping up all over the place make me shudder. Katrina holds the answer to that foolishness. The periods before, during and after that hurricane leveled New Orleans was, and still is, marked by huddled and trembling masses waiting for government agencies to fix things.  The historical story  line will be if President Bush had just cared enough to interrupt his Texas vacation and  flown to Louisiana, none of this would have happened.

Grown men, brave warriors  mortally wounded on the battlefield, will instinctively cry for their mothers.  On the brink of  major economic hardship, as we are, is hardly the time to get cocky.  Not with the siren Liberalism, aka mommy government, ready to steer the weak onto the rocks.  I don't think things are hopeless, but we have to dismantle that new culture entirely, and that will take a long time, with no backsliding.

In my newest novel the opening chapter is about people gone berserk for a week.  They hang every employee of the democrat media complex from lamp posts, about 30,000 of them in all.  The carnage is just terrible.  That's followed by a period of contrition and moving forward.  My novel has a happy ending. Yours may differ.

Little Lord Lindsey tries to be relevant

GOP 'made some pretty poor choices'
Little Lord Lindsey Graham

“ Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said that Republicans "made some pretty poor choices" in choosing their Senate candidates this fall.

Graham, in a Senate floor speech on Saturday, made an aside comment underscoring the frustration the GOP faced after some Tea Party-aligned nominees fell short in their campaigns.

Federal law enforcement agencies have been tracking Americans in real-time using credit cards, loyalty cards and travel reservations without getting a court order

Ah, for the good old days of the Clinton Administration and its paltry new lie every day, and new scandal every week.  Sigh.  I'd say that impeachment of Holder and Obama is now unavoidable.  That, or justifiable open rebellion (based on 2000 years of unenslaved human behavior).  These are very bad people we put in office.

Dem Senator:

Wise White Owl

Negotiating with Republicans Almost like Negotiating with Terrorists

That would be, not that it matters, Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) speaking.  Like you, I've spent years trying to decide whether this type of outrageously hypocritical statement made by Liberals -
  1. are cynically designed for effect?
  2.  represent raw ideological beliefs?
Consider: Menendez's statements might fulfill Alinsky  Rule 2

  • : Never go outside the experience of your people.  The result is confusion, fear, and retreat.
All of us have friends and relatives whose head would explode if someone like Menendez told the truth about anything, so there's that argument for contrivance.  On the other hand, even the dullest Democrats (Patty Murray, Barbara Boxer, et al.) are too quick to utter what we think of as "The Big Lie," which sometimes leads me to think they really believe their own s*it.

“ “Do you allow yourself to be held hostage and get something done for the sake of getting something done, when in fact it might be perverse in its ultimate results? It’s almost like the question of do you negotiate with terrorists.” Sen. Robert Menendez
”

That quote by Menendez, I think, is a good example of  Boomerang Self Personification (BSP).  Always accuse others of that which you're already doing; it incorporates both  possibilities. Does it really matter though?  When you're dealing with Communists, the Taliban, or Party Line Democrats it's kill or be killed (hyperbolic where necessary).  Bottom line, I'm introducing a new topic, "They may actually believe this s*it!"

Coen Brothers Ranked

COEN BROS
I hadn't thought about it before, but ranking Coen Brother's films, like this guy did, is a trial worthy of  Odysseus.  The lazy me would rank them as a fourteen-way tie for first, even though I haven't seen them all (The Ladykillers, Intolerable Cruelty).  If you put a gun to my head however,  my rankings in descending order are to the right.

Coen Brothers Film Ranking
Scariest Villian EVER!

14. The Man Who Wasn't There (2001)

The Lovely Bones

I watched The Lovely Bones (2009) on HBO last night. It's about a fourteen year-old girl who's murdered by a serial killer neighbor.  She watches in angry frustration as her killer eludes capture. Emotionally draining and spiritually satisfying at the same time.  I'm haunted by it.

PS - I think the trailer shows too much.

Egyptian archaeologist admits
pyramids contain UFO technology

“ In a shock statement, head of the Cairo University Archeology Department, Dr Ala Shaheen has told an audience that there might be truth to the theory that aliens helped the ancient Egyptians build the oldest of pyramids, the Pyramids of Giza.

On being further questioned by Mr Marek Novak, a delegate from Poland as to whether the pyramid might still contain alien technology or even a UFO with its structure, Dr Shaheen, was vague and replied "I can not confirm or deny this, but there is something inside the pyramid that is "not of this world".

Delegates to the conference on ancient Egyptian architecture were left shocked, however Dr Shaheen has refused to comment further or elaborate on his UFO and alien related statements.

”

I know what you're saying. "Oh no Rodge, don't tell me you're a birther AND a space alienist too?" Well,  admittedly there's considerally more evidence to support the former, but I'm more than open-minded about the latter. Hanging Genachowski

Why We Hanged Genachowski
Wave goodbye to Internet freedom

“ With a straight face, Mr. Genachowski suggested that government red tape will increase the "freedom" of online services that have flourished because bureaucratic busybodies have been blocked from tinkering with the Web. Ordinarily, it would be appropriate at this point to supply an example from the proposed regulations illustrating the problem. Mr. Genachowski's draft document has over 550 footnotes and is stamped "non-public, for internal use only" to ensure nobody outside the agency sees it until the rules are approved in a scheduled Dec. 21 vote. So much for "openness." DDD
Good article from WaTimes nicely sums up ... .
“ It's not clear why the FCC thinks it needs to intervene in a situation with obvious market solutions. ... Freedom and openness should continue to be the governing principles of the Internet. That's why Mr. Genachowski's proposal should be rejected and Congress should make it even more clear that the FCC should stop trying to expand its regulatory empire.

The Kronen Zeitung newspaper claims Helmut G. was told by a court in Graz, Styria, that his yodelling offended his next-door Muslim neighbours.

The men reportedly accused the 63-year-old of having tried to mock and imitate the call of the Muezzin. The Muslims, whose nationalities were not revealed by the report, were right in the middle of a prayer when the Austrian started to yodel.

STOP TUCKER!

STOP TUCKER!

“ The media just loves to hate Sarah Palin. And, if polls are to be believed, the constant media bombardment has hurt her standing among many independents.

Unfortunately, over the last couple of weeks, even conservative media pundits such as Mona Charen, Peggy Noonan, George Will, Joe Scarborough and Matt Labash see these attacks and warn that she can’t win the presidency. They even buy into the attacks on her judgment, intelligence, and competence. But what these conservatives don’t appreciate is that Palin is being attacked because she is smart and effective, not because she is dumb.[
John Lott - Why Does the Media Love to Pick On Palin?]
STOP TUCKER
Lott discovered that 194 news stories over the last month from Oct. 28 to Nov. 27 talked about Sarah Palin in the same paragraph that they used the words “extreme,” “dishonest,” “unpresidential,” “stupid,” “incompetent,” “gaffe,” or “dumb.”  None of this is a surprise to you, even if you're not a Palin fan.

“

But slips of the tongue demonstrate neither a person’s intelligence nor their understanding of issues. Obama’s knowledge of economics is abysmal – his emphasis on higher tax rates and spreading wealth make the economy smaller. His health care regulations will cause people to be thrown off of private health insurance, raise costs, and lower quality.

Sarah Palin has been pointing out many of these problems before anyone else. On health care, she coined the term "death panels," and the press attacked her mercilessly for it. But after Obamacare has become law, even Democrats, such as Paul Krugman, are now using the term, acknowledging that Obama care will empower government panels to make decisions on who will be allowed to get medical care.

Palin’s analysis of the economics of health care would make an economist proud. Take how Obamacare creates an incentive for people to wait until they needed care before they purchased health insurance. Banning any higher premiums for those who wait until they are sick to get insurance may be very bad public policy, but it is one part of Obama care that is extremely popular. Other Republicans have seen the polls and refused to discuss the problem, but Palin ignored the polls and made the right economic argument.

Due to the popularity of the superb television series Mad Men, there is probably today more awareness of how Madison Avenue works than at any time since Vance Packard topped the best seller list with The Hidden Persuaders (1957).  So, what we have here is Sarah Palin as Preston Tucker, trying to introduce a new, safer, ahead of it's time vehicle.  The Big Three are running wall-to-wall negative negative commercials to keep her from reaching the showroom.

... in Gov. Christie's court

Christie's BIG Test

“ In New Jersey, residents who want to transport firearms legally must request a permit from a local law enforcement office and produce a letter stating why it is necessary for them to carry a gun.  In other words, New Jerseyans have to prove need before exercising what many Americans consider a constitutional right.

Twenty-seven-year-old Brian Aitken is learning that the hard way -

Listen up Gov. Christie

I am flabbergasted by this New Jersey law,  but even  more so that Brian Aitken was convicted (sentenced in August to seven years in prison).  That means not one of twelve jurors would exercise jury nullification of this outrageously unconstitutional law.  NOT ONE!  The ball is in Gov. Christie's court now.  Will he pardon Aitken?  Or, like George Bush with Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, let him languish in prison?  I am a huge Christie fan, but  if he drops the ball on this -- he will become for me just another Mitt Romney (fatally flawed).  Your values may differ.

    NYT ^ | 12/1/2010 | DAVID M. HERSZENHORN
WASHINGTON — Not even 24 hours after President Obama met with senior Republican Congressional leaders and expressed hopes for a “new dialogue,” renewed partisan fury engulfed the Senate on Wednesday, as Republicans threatened to block any legislation until a deal is reached to extend the expiring Bush-era tax cuts, potentially derailing the Democrats’ busy end-of-year agenda. The blunt threat was made in a letter to the majority leader, Harry Reid of Nevada, and signed by all 42 Senate Republicans. And it was reiterated by the Republican leader, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, in a speech in which he accused Democratic leaders...
