Fickleness too

Attention span

This is the damnedest thing.  Remember how gung-ho I was about Sons-of-Guns? A month ago? I have the last three episodes sitting unwatched on my DVR.  I think it has to do with the show's producers trying to position Will (the owner) as some hard-ass macho-man, which I always thought he was anyway without all the recent contrivances.  Anyway, it's off my watch list, but then so is that Bethenny thing .  What was I thinking?   Now I only do Hitler Channels, car restorations (on HD channel) and Travel channel food shows.  I'm a better person for it.

Beck v, Trump on Birthers

Beck backs President Obama
over Trump's attacks...

You know where I stand on the issue (Obama has offered not a scintilla of proof about his place of birth), and I'm comfortable enough in that skin that I no longer worry what others think.  Here are some Freeper comments on the recent Beck-Trump parry.

Beck could have just stated that he hasn’t seen enough facts to form an opinion about the bc issue, but instead, he poo-poohed it.

That was a very large mistake, given that someone as high profile as Donald Trump is asking about it, and that so much of his audience is passionate about the subject. This is going to hurt him badly.

I suspect that Glenn Beck may be seeing an end to his association with Fox News by this summer but I don’t believe he said what he did because he feared Donald Trump would get his job. Either Beck believes that Obama is a legitimate U.S. citizen and constitutionally eligible to be president - or he doesn’t. Apparently, Beck believes the former, which is too bad because he is on the wrong side of the issue and will likely lose more of his already-dwindling audience. Too bad.

Just a thought: But some on the right, many in the middle and all on the left think Beck is a nut. If he backed the BC issue don’t you think that would totally make the issue go away? It is much better for this issue to be dismissed by the most controversial conservatives (Beck, Rove, Coulter) and credited by someone in the middle like Trump. Proof is in the traction the BC story has gotten in the past couple of weeks. I say keep up the good work Mr. Beck.

Actually I’ve considered that distinct possibility. Beck is no dummy and the left has desperately attempted to attach the eligibility issue to him. By speaking out against it he continues to show these writers to be liars which makes their attacks on birthers to further lose credibility.

He calls himself a rodeo clown and a rodeo clown draws the bull away from the rider. Meanwhile he hammers them hard on other issues that few others are talking about.

Besides, the diversity of thought is what separates us from the liberals.

Maybe it is because Beck has the common sense to see that both the birth issue and calling Obama a muslum are losing issues with most Americans. Frankly, as far as conspiracy theories I'm more liable to believe Trump is a Demo plant.

Not only is it a lie, but anyone, including Fox, who thinks that trump could generate the kind of numbers Beck does has lost their marbles.

Furthermore, Beck didNoT ttack trump whatsoever. He aid whata lot ofushere on FR have alredy beensaying. Trump is a showboat, not a prsident. And if Fox is even THINKING of giving him a contract, then you know darn well they must be sure that trump ain’t running.

I was going to buy this deal, principally because the rechargeable batteries  cost nearly twice the money by themselves at retail .  Which brings me to Passwording Gone Wild!  When I tried to checkout I was asked to supply my e-mail and (WTF?) password.  Why in God's name do vendors require a password to make a purchase?  So I put something in, only to be rejected.

"An account with this e-mail address already exists ...  If you forgot your password, click ... ."

Which triggered a reaction within me normally reserved for something having to do with Obama.  Today's prize, then, goes to the first person who can come up with an acceptable reason for vendors demanding that customers supply a password to spend money, because I cannot think of one, and I've tried. Not for the first time, I refuse to deal with this nonsense.  Sheesh.

What?  There's not enough euphemisms for the V-word?  And a V-word coloring book?  This, ladies and gentlemen, may not be the cause of our current corrupted society, but it is a symptom.  A gentleman, or women, will never discuss their private parts, and certainly not in mixed company. Even when being examined, by a doctor,  hems and haws are expected, and proper (My, uh, you know- is dripping).   (I do it here as an academic exercise)

Any guy who starts telling other guys jokes or tales that contain the word "vagina," instead of local acceptable argot, will be immediately hooted out ("ohhhh a  va-gi- na").  Most any time a women talks about her vagina in front of a man, it's a flirt. If she uses the prefearble "my p___y" or " my c__t ," she's begging you.   She will, however, have spent the day romping about "nude for world peace," or some crap.  And she will have voted for Obama; so at-your-risk.  You know I'm right, unless you're one of them pussies

8th-grade exams

Getting out of the 8th-Grade - in 1910

8th-grade test

This is a follow-up of yesterday's TAKS entry.  Graduating grade school in 1910 was a major big deal.  Before reaching that point many kids were put to work on the farm, or in factories.  For those who did graduate,  high school was no sure thing, and college was pretty much out of the question for all but the swells. Still, those kids comprised a labor force that went on to make the United States the most technologically advanced nation in the world.  I'm speculating, but as this 1910  Olympia WA graduation exam indicates, those kids received an education not far removed from what some of today's college graduates receive.  Here's an example:

  READING

1-5. One selection in prose and one in poetry from eighth grade reading book. (50 credits) (not included)

   6. Name five American poets, and give a quotation from each.

   7. Who wrote the following?
      The Village Blacksmith.
      Rip Van Winkle.
      The First Snowfall.
      The Great Stone Face.
      The Raven.

   8. Quote two stanzas of "America."

   9. Quote a stanza from one of the poems mentioned in question 7.
(There once was a man from Nantucket ... FAIL)

  10. Give in your own words the meaning of the following:
"To him who, in the love of Nature, holds
Communion with her visible forms, she speaks
A various language: for his gayer hours
She has a voice of gladness, and a smile
Into his darker musings with a mild
And healing sympathy, that steals away
Their sharpness ere he is aware."

OBAMA CRIED, KIDS DIED

Humanitarian seems to be the Democrats' new word for absolutely no national interest.

The Democrats were not so interested in a "humanitarian" intervention against a much more brutal dictator in Iraq. But, of course, taking out Saddam Hussein, a state sponsor of terrorism who harbored one of the perpetrators of the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center, would make Americans safer.

Democrats are furious whenever American boys (girls and gays) are put in harm's way -- unless the troops are on a mission that has nothing whatsoever to do with defending the United States.

Obama ignored the murder, imprisonment and torture of peaceful ... . [OBAMA CRIED, KIDS DIED]

Media Matters War Against FOX

Media Matters War Against FOX

Soros in Hell

Nothing was more enraging upsetting to me over the weekend than this Politico story "Media Matters' war against Fox."

The liberal group Media Matters has quietly transformed itself in preparation for what its founder, David Brock, described in an interview as an all-out campaign of “guerrilla warfare and sabotage” aimed at the Fox News Channel.
  • It has hired an activist who has led a successful campaign to press advertisers to avoid Glenn Beck’s show.
  • “If there was no Beck, George Soros would come down and demand we make it up,” the “interviewee” continued. “I would watch the “Flintstones” and transcribe Fred Flintstone’s words and attribute them to Beck. It was the only way to get Soros to stop hitting me.”
  • (A Soros associate said the financier, who gave Media Matters $1 million last year, did not earmark it for the Fox campaign. Soros suggested in a recent CNN interview that the Fox depictions of him as a sinister media manipulator would better be applied to Murdoch.)

Through an American Spectator muck-a-muck that I had an association with in the 1990s, I was privy - in real time - to the antics of David Brock.  They were astounded when he left the publication, claiming that he had been the victim of gay bashing by homophobic right wingers.  To the contrary;  Brock was "outed" by New York Times columnist Frank Rich. When Rich’s malicious column appeared, Brock was defended by conservatives who rallied to his side.  So what gives?

I remember reading
Brock's account in American Spectator, about the epiphanal moment when he reevaluated his politics.

One of the best places to accept Brock's challenge is at the university where he became a conservative. As Brock tells the story, his life changed profoundly during his sophomore year when he covered a February 15, 1983 campus speech by United Nations ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick for the Daily Californian, a school newspaper.

Protesters repeatedly heckled Kirkpatrick, a supporter of President Reagan's anticommunist foreign policy in Central America, and she walked off the stage in frustration. The protest spurred a national debate over campus free speech.

"The scene shook me deeply," Brock recalled in Blinded by the Right. "Was the harassment of an unpopular speaker the legacy of the Berkeley-campus Free Speech Movement, when students demanded the right to canvass for any and all political causes on the campus's Sproul Plaza? Wasn't free speech a liberal value? How, I wondered, could this thought police call itself liberal? As I raced back to the threadbare offices of the Daily Cal, where we tapped out stories on half-sheets of paper hunched over manual typewriters, my adrenaline was pumping. I knew I had the day's lead story."

But, as this 2002 Drudge Report NEW BROCK STORIES BEGIN TO UNRAVEL  goes on to prove,  Brock  made the whole thing up.  So, David Brock is just another liar with a press pass.

Here's my very educated guess about what really happened to Brock.
  1. David Brock
His book "The Real Anita Hill," is a blockbuster that delves into behind the scenes Democrat tricks (and felonies) in their attempt to block Clarence Thomas's Supreme Court confirmation - at any cost.
  2. The Left goes absolutely nuts, and ratchets up an already fierce effort to undermine the American Spectator (for whom Brock has penned several articles about Bill Clinton)
  3. New York Times columnist Frank Rich outs Brock as a homosexual
  4. Brock cries himself to sleep every night.
  5. Stockholm Syndrome sets in.
  6. Brock sleeps with Frank Rich, and has champagne and strwberries every morning.
  7. David Brock is a weak man. And a liar.
Here's what's really going on.

In April 2008, Politico.com reported that Brock was collaborating with billionaire donor George Soros and longtime Democrat operative Paul Begala to launch a four-month, $40 million media campaign whose mission would be to publicly discredit Republican presidential candidate John McCain. scariest tsunami video yet

This is the scariest tsunami video yet

We've seen a lot of scary videos of this month's deadly Japanese earthquake and tsunami — but nothing like this. Watch as the waves ravage the port of Kesennuma, destroying everything in it's path.

First watch as the tsunami begins by tossing cars around like toys at the port parking lot — and then watch how terrifyingly fast the rest of the city becomes enveloped in water. In the end, only a couple of buildings survive.

We're still amazed at how quickly this country has fixed infrastructure that to us, here in the United States, would seem like the end of the world. [Japolpnik. com]
