SEIU KNOX-OUT

THIS JUST IN
SEIU KNOX'd OUT

Res Ipsa Loquitur

The court ruled for Dianne Knox and other nonmembers of the Service Employees International Union's Local 1000, who wanted to object and opt out of a $12 million special assessment the union required from its California public sector members for political campaigning. Knox and others said the union did not give them a legally required notice that the increase was coming.

The union, and the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, said the annual notice that the union gives was sufficient. The high court disagreed in a 7-2 judgment written by Justice Samuel Alito. [Full AP]

Not the Big One, but still important.  The SCOTUS today handed unions another set-back, and this is especially delicious because the primary was the SEIU, upon which Obama, and Demorats. are dependent for cash and field work.  The other thrill up my leg is that, for the 5,897,763rd time, by my count, The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals was reversed.
Res Ipsa Loquitur

Note, I am surprised by the 7-2 decision:  I woulda guessed 5-4.  There have been a few more recent rulings the same way, where I was surprised over the libtard vote.  I can't help but worry that there is a quid pro quo at work here — by the liberal justices to gain the deciding vote in Obamacare (which looks like Monday).
I know, silly.  But the Obamacare decision is the most important decision in SCOTUS history, IMO.  If they don't strike it down,  this nation  is unalterably changed.  So I worry.

Obama’s 20 Most Self-Absorbed Moments

The Obamissariat

Res Ipsa Loquitur

The Rickards Review (the Internet's Preeminent Conservative Blog)  has at least impressed me with this comprehensive list of

Barack Obama’s 20 Most Impossibly Self-Absorbed Moments

Lots of citations and videos at the site, but below —  a brief summary

20 & 19.  Obama writes two memoirs, the first at age 35.

18.  “The election’s over, John.”

There are polite ways to disagree.  There are diplomatic ways to disagree.  And then there’s Barack Obama’s way of disagreeing with Sen. John McCain during a summit on healthcare reform.

17. “I think I could probably do every job on the campaign better than the people I’ll hire to do it.”

16.  “It would be easier if I could do this entirely on my own.”

15.  American soldiers fight for Barack Obama
“those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf.”

Res Ipsa Loquitur
14. Obama as the standard of divine law
When asked to define “sin,” he stated that sin is “being out of alignment with my values,” whatever those are.  So take that, St. Augustine!

13. Announcing the killing of Osama bin Laden
I ...;  I....;  I....;  I....;

12. The State of My Union
managed to reference himself a whopping 122 times, averaging roughly once every 30 seconds!

11.  It’s his country.  We’re just living in it.

10.  “You’re going to destroy my presidency”

9.  Republican Scott Brown’s victory proves voters still love Obama. Wait, what?

8. Killing Osama Bin Laden, The Sequel

7.  Death be not proud… except of me.
We’ve all heard jokes about voter fraud and dead people voting for Democrats.  But rarely do the dead endorse a candidate so explicitly and enthusiastically.

6.  “I have become a symbol of the possibility of America returning to our best traditions.”
(Yes, those are quotation marks)

5. Calm the seas?
Yes, calm the seas

4.  The gift that keeps on giving.
President Obama gave Queen Elizabeth an iPod - loaded with pictures of him

3. “We are the ones who we’ve been waiting for.”

2. Modification of other presidential biographies to include himself.
This borders on outright creepy.

1.“Well,” he said “the big difference [between] here and in ’94 is you’ve got me.”

Politico Crap

Where I get a little carried away ...

Res Ipsa Loquitur

“It looks like whoever picked this data chose the demographic where Limbaugh was weakest,” one radio insider noted. [Left-Wing Politico Busted Fudging Limbaugh Ratings]

Previously:
Monday, July 25, 2011 Phony Arbitron Ratings "Is right-wing talk dying?" John Avlon asked hopefully at The Daily Beast.

I was unaware until a few days ago that Politico's Ben Smith is now with Buzz Feed.  Politico was launched in January 2007,  billed as being comprised of veteran newsmen of various ideological persuasion, but with a need to provide good, solid, and unbiased reporting.  And there was.  And there still is.  Because it 'tweren't. Politico.

Ben Smith,  an original  Politico "talent,"  was quoted liberally by Rush Limbaugh, who liked his slant and insight.  Slowly, however,  liberalism began seeping out of Smith's glands, and then  le déluge merde.  Here's one of my Favorite Ben Smith road apples.  If you hadn't noticed who he was by then, this was the kick in your arse.

After the progressive watchdog group Media Matters for America accused Politico of having a "Republican tilt", Politico's Ben Smith answered: "Media Matters has a point: ..

What a schmuck.  Smith, along with everyone else at Politico, were little more than fifth columnists (get it?) parachuted in to ply their legerdemain by stealth.  Here's a recent commentary on that carbuncle:   Ben Smith and the Evidence  by Stanley Kurtz

I've picked on Ben Smith, because he was caught in our camp, wearing our uniform, and trying to blow up our infrastructure. .  Click-Click.

Portman?

JUMP?

Res Ipsa Loquitur

“Let’s just eliminate the drama and suspense right now. Romney is going to pick Rob Portman,” declared the Daily Beast’s Mark McKinnon, a political strategist who has worked for Republicans and Democrats.

McKinnon is not alone in his prediction. In recent weeks, Portman has been the name making the rounds as the top choice in the Romney VP rumor mill.

Let's go right to the bottom line.  While Portman has many positives, so to did Bush 41 in 1980, ahem.

bottom line
  • Res Ipsa Loquitur
Portman, who notes that he owns hybrid cars, is an advocate of tapping various energy sources. He’s also voted to allow oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

  • “As a U.S. Senator, Rob will champion policies that recognize and harness the power of Ohio’s natural resources – including natural gas, coal, solar, wind, hydro, nuclear, oil, and bio-mass,” his Senate campaign energy plan states.

  • In 2000, Portman voted for implementation of the Kyoto Protocol, a treaty to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change meant to fight global warming by reducing emissions of greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide. The protocol has not been ratified by the U.S.

  • Portman authored the Tropical Forest Conservation Act, a piece of legislation the Bush White House described as a “program [that] enables eligible low and middle income countries to substitute some portion of their debt obligations to the United States for domestic tropical forest conservation and protection activities.”

  • Portman also voted to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act, newly structured by Joe Biden and offering  and increased number of visas to illegal-alien victims and offers specific protections of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender victims.
You can read more, nuch more here Mitt to Choose This GOP-Establishment VP?

I'm not going to hold anyone to 100% compliance with my standard (that person does not exist, which is not an entirely bad thing), but there are hot button issues. One is embracing the idea of AGW (man caused climate change).  Anyone that does is dispensing nostrums for political gain, or so abjectly thick headed as to be unfit to serve. Since Romney's  own shifting positions on the subject fall under that rubric, I suppose it's a moot point.

In contempt of congress - what do it mean?

Obama grants 11th-hour Holder executive privilege request

Res Ipsa Loquitur

The question on everyone's lips is — so what does it mean if he's found in contemptby vote of the full House?  Predictably the law is difficult for the layman to understand.  For instance (from Wikipedia)

.Under this process, the procedure for holding a person in contempt involves only the chamber concerned. Following a contempt citation, the person cited is arrested by the Sergeant-at-Arms for the House or Senate, brought to the floor of the chamber, held to answer charges by the presiding officer, and then subjected to punishment as the chamber may dictate (usually imprisonment for punishment reasons, imprisonment for coercive effect, or release from the contempt citation).

But then, under "Statutory Proceedings," and after this Wikipedia citation —
Res Ipsa Loquitur
This article contains weasel words: vague phrasing that often accompanies biased or unverifiable information. Such statements should be clarified or removed. (July 2008)

we read:

.Following a contempt citation, the presiding officer of the chamber is instructed to refer the matter to the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia;[9] according to the law it is the "duty" of the U.S. Attorney to refer the matter to a grand jury for action.

We have one instance of an Attorney General of the United States being held in contempt.

Person Subcommittee/Committee Ultimate Disposition
Janet Reno (Democrat),
Attorney General
6 August 1998, House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Documents in question were revealed during the impeachment of President Clinton.

That would be a satisfactory outcome here, although I won't hold my breath. In the final analysis, Holder's and Obama's culpability in this effort (F&F) to stage events as a precursor to imposing gun control on us,  is manifestly unmistakable.

So, your kid wants an eye pad .....

Voting with My Feet in Massachusetts

Res Ipsa Loquitur

One of the things I'll miss about Massachusetts is the revolving opportunity to vote against John Kerry every few years.  For a while, of course, I had the privilege of voting against Ted Kennedy as well, and if I had lived a few towns to the south, I could have voted against Barney Frank, too.

There is something very satisfying about voting against extremely bad people.  The rest of the country gets to see our liberal hacks only in the news.  In Massachusetts, I proudly voted against them.

In this state, you'll quickly lose your mind if you start looking for candidates you actually like.  On the rare occasions when Massachusetts elects a non-Democrat, such as Mitt Romney or Scott Brown, it is always Mitt Romney or Scott Brown.  Massachusetts has an astonishing number of execrable politicians, and no good ones.  Mitt Romney may or may not be a real conservative now, but he wasn't one back then.  To the degree that he is now a conservative, it happened after he got out of Boston.

Scott Brown, of course, is the most liberal Republican in the Senate.  Technically, I voted for him, but in my heart I was voting against Martha Coakley, his opponent.  It was about 30 degrees that day ... Read more:

I found this article extremely cathartic.  The disquieting thing is, that while Mr.T.S. Weidler  did vote with his feet, he will still find his daily life plagued by laws those Massachusetts booboisie  have blanketed us all with in this era of  borderless federal smothering.  Or something.

So it's Katie Bar The Door! Right?

GOP Rep. Darrell Issa said his face-to-face meeting Tuesday with Attorney General Eric Holder failed to produce the documents requested for the congressional investigation into the Justice Department’s botched Fast and Furious gun walking operation and suggested he needs them by Wednesday morning to stop a scheduled vote to put Holder in contempt of Congress.

The Capitol Hill meeting was called for late Monday night by Holder.

Well that's it for you Holder!  If you don't bring this documents in tom- what?  WTF!?!

Issa told reporters after the roughly 20-minute meeting that Holder instead briefed them on the documents in lieu of delivering them and suggested he might delay the contempt vote, called for because the department has not responded to subpoena requests for the additional information.

“The deadline will always move to the last minute,” said Issa, chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. “We're not looking to hold people responsible. We're looking for document production.[Full]

We'll cite you for contempt if you don't produce the files.  That is of course unless you don't present the files, then we'll start over.. You're quacking like a duck Mr, Issa ...

The media appear to be working their way up to a full-on hand-wringing over the news that the kind of people who use "Does this taste like Rohypnol to you?" as a pickup line have discovered social media "location apps". Wow. Who could have seen that coming?

The internet itself has already made dodging stalkers or creepy exes a colossal pain in the butt, at least for those of us who remember the good old days of 'move and get an unlisted phone number and you're done,' but the idea of voluntarily tagging yourself like a migrating harp seal? Unbelievable.

When I first heard of these apps that would basically broadcast your age, sex, relationship status, favorite color, GPS location, and how long you'd been standing there in the bar parking lot fumbling in your purse for your car keys, I couldn't believe ...

Even though the two men now live under the constant fear of death, they say they will not stop preaching Christianity.

Weiss 's analysis (a good read) summation -

.The truth is this. Putin’s only criticism of Assad is that Assad has not already destroyed this annoying little revolution and convinced the world that he is doing so as part of of the global war on terror. ... When Russia sounds more conciliatory to the Western position, it is to buy more time for Damascus. If Putin has one lament, it is only that Bassel al-Assad, Bashar’s smarter older brother, died in a car crash in 1994. Thus was a perfectly good client state entrusted to a combination of Fredo Corleone and Forrest Gump. My Wedding Day Remembrance

Remembering my own wedding day

Father's Day 2012

Father's Day

Yesterday was maybe the best Father's Day ever since my own died in 1998.  The plan was to have crabs, but when we tried to get some- there were none to be had! Anywhere. This is a first, in my experience.

With the idea  that I wasn't going to have to cook squashed, I set about doing chicken wings, Italian sausage/peppers and onions, and pizza.  The real surprise was that for the first time since Christmas we were all together.  We had expected that only my daughter's family would be able to make it, but at the last minute Greep and Joe said they were coming.  Then, everyone showed up.

It was a perfect day, weather wise, and I most especially liked the card (roll-over) my granddaughter Lilly filled out (her words, mom's handwriting- BTW,it's  brown hair and brown eyes).  I'll remember this day.  Oh,  this is what MoSup gave me.  For all the hard work I did becoming a father.  Calculated at about 2 mintes, 38 seconds.

In objecting to accusations of racism against Gwyneth Paltrow for a a June 1 tweet with the heading “Ni**as in paris for real,” Maher directed his audience to Matt Drudge as a foil for, in his mind, actual racism.

This elicited from me an actual audible guffaw yesterday. Shall we in the future be told by Liberal asshats —
  • Joy Behar has six friends who deem Rush Limbaugh racist?
  • Louis Farrakhan has six friends who deem all whites racist?
  • Barack Obama ... blah-blah-blah?

FWIW, Gwyneth Paltrow may be is a liberal  bore, but I find nothing racist in her supposed Tweet. Nor do you, I'll wager.  Being obsessed by racism, as liberals are however,  is monumentally racist. F'kn peasants.

The Origins of the American Military Coup of 2012

                  CHARLES J. DUNLAP, JR.

Back in 1992 the Pentagon’s Joint Chiefs of Staff held a "Strategy Essay Competition."
The winner was a National War College student paper entitled, "The Origins of the American Military Coup of 2012." Authored by Colonel Charles J. Dunlap, Jr. the paper
is a well documented, "darkly imagined excursion into the future." The ostensibly fictional work is written from the perspective of an imprisoned senior military officer about to be executed for opposing the military takeover of America, a coup accomplished through "legal" means. The essay makes the point that the coup was "the outgrowth of trends visible as far back as 1992," including "the massive diversion of military forces to civilian uses," particularly law enforcement.

I skimmed the first few pages and usually get bored and move on. After 4 pages and read with a bit more intent and found this worth passing on.

Cherry 1950 Chevrolet Club Coupe

I know this one has been around before but it is worth a rerun.

When was the last time you saw a 6 volt battery? You’ll LOVE this one. What got me were the seats… Remember?

The oil filter is the blue can with yellow top. You could stick a roll of toilet paper in there. The air filter is the oil bath type, the bottom portion is filled with oil and when you cleaned it you replaced the oil and clean the sump and mesh wire filter.

1950 Chevrolet Club Coupe, 437 original miles, only three owners. Check out the dealer installed “oil filter”, the rusty carb, and you can even see the spark plugs if they need to be changed.

Which reminded me ...

There was excitement in our house when dad came home with the family's first NEW car, a 1952 Chevy.  The engine looked identical (in my mind's eye) to that 1950.  Our  model was black, and so stripped down that it lacked an ash tray, and a radio.  Ergo, on trips mom had a beanbag ashtray sitting on the dash, and she bought a battery powered radio that was next to useless in the car.

About 4 years later dad did allow me to customize it— to this extent.  I "bull-nosed" (removed the hood ornament) and "decked" (removed the Chevy badge from the  trunk lid) .  Finally, I applied a  red pinstripe decal  over the holes.  My friends agreed that these improvement were neat, but to complete the job I'd need Oldsmobile Spinner: hubcaps, and Merc skirts, but no way I could come by those on my own (without lifting them).  Oh, I also installed a suicide knob on the steering wheel, but the old man went bonkers ("why do you think  it's called a suicide knob?!?), and made me remove it. I think I was around 11 at the time.  Later, when I bought my own first car ('50 Ford), I put a suicide knob on it, and almost killed myself the first day.  Took it off.  He was right. About everything.
